Sleeping Beauty/Nightmare Fuel

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • The scene where Aurora is hypnotized by the Witches' spell and moves very slowly to the top of the tower where the spinning wheel stands. What makes this scene especially scary is the fact that Aurora seems almost zombie-like and the only light she sees is the hypnotic light ball the Witch made. The rest of the castle is pitch dark. The accompanying music is also eerie. The scariest thing however is that you've always thought that the music in the background was just an "aww" sound in tune. But now if you hear it closely you can actually hear "Aurora" precisely, for added more scariness, after the fire blows out and the room gets dark.
  • When the raven gets Taken for Granite (complete with gong sound!).
  • The forest of thorn's rise for reason unknown scared this troper so much.
  • The battle with the dragon: "Now shall you deal with ME, O Prince -- and all the powers of HELL!"
  • The Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough at Disneyland includes a scene of Maleficent's shadow emerging from behind a corner, accompanied by her evil laugh. When the walk-through first opened, the shadow apparently scared so many people, the Imagineers removed it. The attraction then ended with Philip awakening Aurora with True Love's Kiss. The current version tries to lessen the scare factor of Maleficent's potential resurrection by following it up with a recreation of Flora and Merryweather arguing over which color to make Aurora's dress. Speaking of, remember Maleficent's death scene? No Body Left Behind. All we see is she got hurt pretty badly, then her shapeshifting, winged self falling.
