Heavy Jack backstory episode. The team arrives on a yellow desert world where they find many shattered blue crystals gathered together near the stargate. As Carter and Daniel examine the site, O'neill wanders off beyond another dune. There he finds a large intact crystal and touches it. A blast of energy knocks him backwards and renders him unconscious. Carter and Daniel finish their examinations and collect some pieces to bring back and study. They call out for Jack since they're ready to go. We then see another O'neill standing over his unconscious form. He goes and joins the team and they return to Earth.

When they get back, the new O'neill seems disoriented and reclusive. He brings out an old box from his locker with pictures of his wife and son. He then leaves the facility, brushing off Teal'c who wishes to see the world. Carter mentions the strange behavior to Daniel and that she never knew he had a son. Daniel informs her that his son died and his wife left. They then begin examining the crystal fragments they brought back.

O'neill shows up at his old house and meets up with his wife. There he does a terrible job of reconciling with her, and wants to see Charlie. Problem is Charlie has been dead for a while. Then we embark on a trip down memory in Charlie's old room, how he loved to play baseball, etc. O'neill seems to realize that he's gone for good and appears to be mourning. His wife sees this and later mentions it to him. They talk a little bit outside when suddenly Jack convulses and blue electricity runs along his body. Terrified, his wife rushes him to the hospital.

Daniel and Carter are looking at a reconstructed crystal in the lab when it suddenly mimics Daniel's face. It then does the same with Carter and says "Help". They find out that the crystals are energy beings that once accidentally killed a Goa'uld when touched, which led the Goa'uld to gather them up and destroy them. At this point the stargate activates, and they rush off to find Colonel O'neill returning through the gate. They check him out and see that it is truly O'neill, which leads to the question of where the other one went? They conduct a search and determine that he went to see his wife.

They track them down to the hospital where the energy being that cloned O'neill is suffering a meltdown. He tells Jack he was only trying to mend his pain, but the pain of his loss of Charlie was impossible to fix, which is why he went searching for Charlie to bring him back. He then morphs into Charlie and allows some closure to occur with Jack and his wife. They return the being through the stargate.
