Steins;Gate/Trivia

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Awesome, Dear Boy + Playing Against Type: Kana Hanazawa openly stated that she was happy to be in the cast, as it's uncommon for her to lend her voice in a serious work.
  • Cash Cow Franchise: To date, Steins;Gate has been ported to nearly every possible gaming platform in existence since the 7th Generation. The only exceptions would be Wii and Wii U. That's not even counting the spin-offs, sequels, prequels, anime, soundtracks, drama CDs, other miscellaneous material and whatnot. "Milking it" would be an understatement at this point.
  • Crossover: Kurisu appears as a guest character in another 5pb. published title, Phantom Breaker: Battlegrounds. Okabe, Mayuri, Ruka, and Suzuha also make cameo appearances, with the latter two being part of Kurisu's move set.
  • Dawson Casting: Half of the Japanese actors involved in the series are roughly twice the age of their respective characters.
    • To give an example, 18-year-old Kurisu is voiced by then 34-year-old Asami Imai.
    • Yukari Tamura, who was 35 at the time, voices Suzuha (who is also 18 years old).
    • 17-year-old Faris is voiced by then 33-year-old Haruko Momoi.
    • Most glaringly, Tomokazu Seki, who was pushing 40 at the time, voiced 19-year-old Daru.
    • Nae Tennouji, who is only 11 years old, is voiced by Ayano Yamamoto and Brina Palencia in Japanese and English, respectively; both women were in their mid 20's when the anime originally aired.
      • Saori Goto is probably the closest to averting this trope, as she was only 4 years older than her character, Moeka Kiryuu (20 years old).
  • Hey, It's That Voice!:
  • No Export for You: Played with; to be specific, we're referring to the Xbox 360 version of the game, because that particular port was never released outside of Japan. The game was eventually ported to PlayStation 3 and PC worldwide, but Xbox 360 users outside Japan are fresh out of luck. In fact, even with all of the games in the series being on Xbox One in some form, they are still Japan-exclusive on that particular platform.
  • Pseudonym: Ashly Burch is credited under the pseudonym Jackie Ross as the English voice of Mayuri in both the anime and the movie.
  • Recursive Adaptation: Steins;Gate Elite is a visual novel adaptation of the anime adaptation of the original visual novel.
  • The Red Stapler: It is by Steins;Gate's decree that Dr. Pepper be the intellectual drink for the chosen ones. And so, it was. Sales of Dr. Pepper heavily increased in Japan as fans bought the drink, and vending machines started advertising it with tie-in marketing to the game.
  • Significant Double Casting: Suzuha and Yuki are both voiced by Yukari Tamura and Cherami Leigh in Japanese and English, respectively. Two guesses as to why that casting choice was made, and the first one doesn't count!
  • What Could Have Been: Originally, the developers had planned to include an ending for Moeka, but was scrapped because it would make her appear too sympathetic, since they wanted the player to feel antagonism towards someone in order to connect with Okabe better.
    • Opportunities to give Moeka some kind of redemption arc appear to have been saved for spin-off titles.
    • There were also plans to incorporate the player's own phone into the Phone Trigger system, which would've allowed players to respond to text messages as they wished. While a novel idea, it was scrapped as it would have not only been a violation of privacy laws, but also the likelihood of hateful/abusive messages would've been extremely high.
