Super Smash Bros. Brawl/Characters
Characters from Super Smash Bros. Brawl include:
Brawl Bosses (Subspace Emissary and other modes)
Petey Piranha
A giant, mutated Piranha Plant who manages to capture Zelda and Peach in cages. Fought with Kirby.
- Eyeless Face
- Death From Above: One of his attacks is to jump into the air and try to crush you upon landing.
- Dual-Wielding
- Improbable Weapon User: Uses two cages for most of his attacks.
- Leaf Fingers
- Roar Before Beating
- Took a Level in Badass: In looks and voice at least. Unlike the cartoonish voice he has in most Mario games, Petey has a pretty scary roar in Brawl.
- Turns Red: When either of the cages goes down to half HP, Petey will glow red momentarily and speed up his attacks.
Rayquaza
A legendary Pokémon from the third generation who attacks Fox and Diddy Kong.
- Damage Sponge Boss
- Everything's Better with Spinning: When Rayquaza uses Iron Tail, it spins its whole body like a top.
- Eyes of Gold
- Flight
- Giant Space Flea From Nowhere
- Glowing Eyes of Doom: When it uses Focus Blast, its eyes flash and glow for a moment.
- Instant Awesome, Just Add Dragons: Probably the reason it even appears.
- Misplaced Wildlife: Appears out of a lake like it's some sort of water monster. It's supposed to live in the ozone layer.
- No Biological Sex: Like most legendary Pokemon, it's genderless.
- Olympus Mons
- One-Hit Kill: Subverted. It looks like it went down in one hit but as soon as the cutsence ends, a Boss Battle starts.
- Out of Character: Appears out of a lake, uses a move[1] it can't learn (even by TM or HM), and doesn't put up much of a fight.
- Our Dragons Are Different
- Shock and Awe: Employs use of several lightning attacks.
- The Worf Effect: One of the most powerful legendary (read: god) Pokemon, it supposedly has lived for millions of years and is in such a high tier in its original game that it can't be used in the standard metagame. It gets beaten by a anthropomorphic fox and a monkey with a peanut gun.
- Tail Slap
- Time Abyss: It's millions of years old.
- Tron Lines
Porky Minch
The antagonist of Mother 3, one of the generals of the Subspace Army, leader of the Pigmask army, and an all around spoiled brat. Fought with Ness and Lucas.
- Collision Damage: Has two attacks where he hurts you just by walking into you; the one where he hops and charges is extremely strong and dangerous.
- Death From Above: Jumps up and tries to land on you.
- Eyeless Face
- Flunky Boss: Creates a few Porky Bots that trip and explode after a couple seconds.
- Kid Hero: Inverted. He's a kid villain.
- Shock and Awe: His hovering thunder blast.
- Spider Tank
Ridley/Meta Ridley
The undying alien dragon (literally and tropewise) of the Metroid series, and the leader of the Space Pirates. Fought by Samus and Pikachu; later (as Meta Ridley) by the aforementioned two, Donkey & Diddy Kong, Captain Falcon, Olimar, and ROB.
- Beware My Stinger Tail: Ridley's tail swipe covers the entire stage and can do around 70% damage on a 0% target..
- Eyes of Gold
- Fireballs: Meta Ridley.
- Kill It with Ice: Meta Ridley's trophy information says that Ice attacks are particularly effective on him.
- Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: As Meta Ridley, a Cyborg Dragon Space Pirate.
- Shout-Out: One of his attacks is a diving, twirling swoop from background to foreground, done in Super Metroid.
- Also done by Dyna Blade in the Kirby Series
- Time Limit Boss: As Meta Ridley in the second Subspace Bomb Factory stage.
- Weaksauce Weakness: Meta Ridley can be taken out very quickly if a character can maintain an Attack Reflector right in front of his mouth when he shoots small fireballs - he fires enough to deplete his entire health in one volley. The problem is that, barring a lucky item drop, nobody present for the fight outside of Boss Battles can actually do that (though Fox and Wolf can treat him as a Breather Boss as a result).
- We Can Rebuild Him: As Meta Ridley.
Galleom
A Humongous Mecha boss, fought twice—once with Marth, Meta Knight, and Ike, then with Lucas and Pokémon Trainer.
- Collision Damage
- Death From Above: When his health gets low, he follows up his vehicle-mode charge by dropping on top of you.
- Everything's Better with Spinning: His "ballerina" move where he twirls like a tornado, sucking you towards him for major damage.
- Flight
- Goomba Stomp
- Original Generation
- Sequential Boss
- Shoulder Cannon
- Transforming Mecha
Duon
A boss fought on the Halberd, formed from the Shadow Game & Watches. Fought by Snake, Lucario, Fox, Falco, Peach, and Zelda/Sheik.
- Collision Damage
- Dual-Wielding: The Blue and Pink sides have their own arsenals to make use of.
- Frickin' Laser Beams
- Misguided Missile: You can pull this trick on him.
- Original Generation
- Shoulder Cannon: Drops bombs out of the otherwise all close range side.
- Spin Attack
- Spread Shot: Which can be absorbed by Ness or Lucas to heal off damage, or sent back at him by Fox, Falco, or Wolf.
- Throw Down the Bomblet
- Use Your Head
Tabuu
The main villain of Subspace Emissary, who attempts to drag the entire Smash world into his own world (Subspace).
- Achilles' Heel: The first time he appears, the Smashers can't even touch him and he wipes them all out in one move. Later, when he tries it again, Sonic ambushes him and shatters his wings, and this weakens him enough for the Smashers to defeat him.
- Big Bad
- Boss Subtitles
- Bullet Seed: His Bullet Rain attack.
- Dangerously Genre Savvy: He uses his Off Waves to make sure that there are no Smashers left to fight him; he would have won, if he knew about Dedede's plans.
- Expy: He shares many of his attacks with Marx.
- Eye Beams
- God of Evil: Pretty much, he's the living embodiment of Subspace and more powerful than Master Hand, who is said to have created the Smash Brothers universe.
- Humanoid Abomination
- One Hit KO: The Off-Waves.
- Original Generation
- The Man Behind the Man Behind The Man Behind The Man
- Manipulative Bastard
- Meaningful Name
- Nothing Is Scarier: While no one really speaks in the Subspace Emissary, Tabuu makes absolutely no sound aside from the sound effects of his attacks; no dialogue, no Evil Laugh...
- Teleport Spam
- Tron Lines
