It could stand a category or two -- we need a good general category for journeys and trips, which we don't have yet -- but otherwise we could kick this out into the main namespace. It's not an admin-proposed trope, so it doesn't need ten examples, and thanks to Umbire has a far superior description than its original author provided it with.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

I was just thinking the same thing. Vote to launch.

(As for the missing supercategory, "Category:Tropes on a Trip", perhaps?)

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Hang on... Before we launch this trope, let's make sure that all of the examples listed for it at The Seven Basic Plots are on the list. That should take less than a day.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

It didn't even take that long, after I weeded out the ones that were more properly The Quest or Trapped in Another World. We're good to go, with sixteen examples now instead of seven.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Works for me. Better than a prosaic "Journey Tropes".

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Second Rob's suggestion.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

And created. I'll get a basic population in there shortly.

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

Alright, so if/when we launch this bad boy, I feel like "Voyage and Return" should redirect to this. I'd also want to see about the whole "same exact image as The Lord of the Rings page" thing before then, as well as adding a couple more categories (less pressing in comparison).

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

I've added the new category, "Tropes on a Trip". That gives it three above and beyond the default set, which a good start.

@Robkelk, I've found an image that'll do just fine as a replacement, and as I said the additional categories aren't AS pressing. So mine'll be a yes pending me uploading said image...

And I think we're good to go, making my "yes" vote official!

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Yeah, I'd say we're good to launch.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Page half-launched - it's moved, the category's created and assigned to the page and the page image, and "The Hobbit (novel)" has been updated with a brand-new Trope Namer section. But I have to go get some groceries right now before my home city goes into pandemic lockdown, so entry pimping has yet to occur...

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

I got you.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Thank you for finishing the job for me!

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

Always happy to help!

There's the seeds of something here

But it's a strange mix of awful grammar and repetitive buzzwords... if it weren't so on-topic I'd say it'd been created by a travesty generator. There's definitely something to be said for having a trope describing the fundamental "There and Back Again" Story. However, this article isn't saying it yet... or if it is, it's being said so unclearly as to be incomprehensible.

Still, there's some potential here, so with apologies to creator User:SMargan, in whose sandbox this was, and who seems to have abandoned the wiki two and a half months ago after four days' activity, I'll be moving it into the Trope Workshop (yes, despite the current congestion there) so it can be worked on and whipped into shape.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Raising the flag again for the need to rewrite the main text.

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

I'll heed that call soon as I possibly can.

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

And done!

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Cool! Thank you!
