This should be a trope, and if it had the minimum three examples I'd launch it. Come on, people, the description's clear enough that we should be able to think of a few classic instances.
A side thought here: Anagnorisis would be the "Revelation" in tropes like Go Mad from the Revelation; we should find all the tropes that are immediate consequences of Anagnorisis and list them on the page.
