The Kirk/Star Trek reference is wrong

In fact, the Star Trek TOS original episodes with Klingon were diplomatic-focused and the solution was NOT to punch every Klingon in the face as soon as you meet them (such is quite explicitely banned by the Federation, etc. etc.). So indeed you "Interview" them first, punch them later. The Next Generation starts off with Klingons already allied to the Federation.

The reference should be changed into something more appropiate. Why not something about goblin dens in D&D campaign? Generally you are asked to exterminate them without a second thought (indeed, the recent anime Goblin Slayer is extremely based on the premise that such is the only moral course of action).

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

The goblins in Goblin Slayer are not the same as D&D goblins, just like they are not the same as Magic: The Gathering goblins or World of Warcraft goblins. And as a D&D player myself, I rarely see any campaigns where goblins are portrayed like the the ones in Goblin Slayer, and I'm almost certain the ones in WoW would be outright offended to be associated with the ones in the anime.

But I definitely agree, Klingons do not fit that Trope.

NimoStar (talkcontribs)

Well, my point was not to say "all goblins are the same" but rather "Goblins are commonly used as generic enemies, while Klingons have actually never fit with this trope." (They are more like Proud Warrior Race Guys. And I agree in that at least in D&D 3.5 you could already play a non-evil goblin so I agree it's not a necessity of the setting, just something common that Game Masters tend to do. After all, while Goblin Slayer isn't D&D, it's based on D&D-like/Generic Fantasy RPG tropes including "character levels" and "quests" with challenge ratings.)

MOD: You do not need mod permission to fix things, either here or on any other page of the wiki. Just be prepared to defend your fixes should that become necessary. Repair, Don't Respond.

And, yes, Our Goblins Are Different is a thing.

Suggest rename to "Exclusively Evil"

Because, like the article says, this trope encompasses Lawful Evil and Neutral Evil as well, so the trope title is misleading.

"Exclusively Evil" is also alliterative, and has a decent beat when spoken aloud.
