Because 'darn' sounds milder and sillier than 'dang', so it fits the feel of the trope better.

I would have to concur. Besides, that does roll off the tongue more easily.

I hate to be that guy, but I feel that the trope works just fine as it is. To me, dang is the funnier one and also rolls off the tongue easier.

The point of the trope is about "mild-manneredness", though. From examples on the page, "darn" seems to be more used when someone wants specifically "mild".

So, are we doing the name change, then?
