How notable is the term 'groupthink', really?

As I've indicated in my edit, I've much more often heard it referred to as 'mob mentality' or 'herd mentality'.

NotaBene (talkcontribs)

I've seen it used mostly in the context of "formal" decision making, like politics or management. (Cynically, it's probably easier to sell consulting services or books by warning bigwigs about "groupthink" than it is to accuse them of mob/herd mentality.)

Edit: Which I guess is one of the "points" of newspeak -- to package up unpleasant or undesirable concepts in "sanitized" ways.
