Proposal: Replace still-under-copyright page image with a public-domain image

In my (lackadaisical) effort to replace copyrighted images with public domain images wherever practical, I propose replacing the still-under-copyright Shirow image on the page with a public-domain Eggleston image.

  1. Should we do this?
  2. If yes, which one do people like best: "Adventuress", "Princess of the Treasure Isle", or "The Treasure Princess"?

Pinging the usual folks, but everybody is welcome to comment: @Agiletek @Bauerbach @Dominicmgm @GentlemensDame883 @H-Games~Documentation @HelljmprRookie @HeneryVII @Jlaw @Just a 1itt1e bit further @Kuma @Lequinni‎ @RivetVermin @Tad Cipher @The23rdCamper @TheEric132 @Umbire the Phantom @Utini501 @Xemylixa @Labster @Looney Toons @GethN7 @Robkelk @QuestionableSanity @Derivative @SelfCloak

Bauerbach (talkcontribs)

Sorry for the late reply, but like "Adventuress"!

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

I like "Adventuress" best of the three, but all three seem a little... I dunno, a little too cute.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

I posted that image, it's a crop of a much larger image, under Fair Use (or Fair Dealing) logic. I figured it was reasonably illustrative of the concept due to it's level of detail and I cropped it to reduce later concerns of using more than the bare minimum.

That said, I prefer the first image as a possible replacement.

Agiletek (talkcontribs)

Adventuress is best because she's on a ship, but why not this one?

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

We now have four possible replacements to consider ... assuming we're going to replace.

GentlemensDame883 (talkcontribs)

None of them are a definite yes for me, but if I had to choose, it'd be either Adventuress or Agiletek's suggestion.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

First, yes, we should replace it. Second, "Adventuress" is good, but my second choice would be "The Treasure Princess". However I have to agree with Henery -- they all seem a bit too cutesy.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

They are cute, aren't they? Maybe we could use them in an analysis of how the pin-up has evolved over the decades.

We aren't forced to use any of them, if somebody has something else the tropers think is better. My main concern here is to switch to a public domain image.

Kuma (talkcontribs)

I think Adventuress works best with how it relaxed and at night where adventure can be waiting in the new day on the ship.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

It's been a week, and the consensus is to replace.

As to replace with what... nobody's offered anything that's less "cute" than what Agiletek and I suggested. And the votes favor "Adventuress". (For the record, I liked "The Treasure Princess", but I was outvoted.)

Replacing the copyrighted image we had previously with the public domain image that received the most votes.

Since there were so few votes in total, this vote does not prevent a different replacement in the future.
