Is "cancel culture" an example of this trope?

The more extreme version, where statues of historical figures are removed from public display and buildings and roads are renamed, almost certainly is. But is the version that isn't turned Up to Eleven an example?

Mm. It's a difficult question, but I think there's a fundamental difference. "Cancel culture" is simply a modern incarnation of the old practice of shaming and shunning a miscreant, performed by a community and individuals within it; "Unperson" is a concerted effort by a government to erase a person from history and public awareness usually because they're a threat or embarrassment or both.

Concur. Cancel culture is a public shaming and ostracism exercise, but your name and person are not denied to exist. Unpersoning is closer to the Roman practice of "Damnatio Memoriae", where they would try to destroy all evidence of your existence from every record.
