Teen Titans Saga

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

The Teen Titans Saga is a series of Teen Titans Continuation fics by Master Ghandalf set in a single continuity following the events of Season Five. The stories do not count the Teen Titans Go! comic as canon, as the writer has never been able to read them. The fics are intended as thematic continuations of several character's arcs, and are an attempt to capture the Original Flavor. They might be seen to comprise a "virtual" season.

The series consists of:

  • The Abyss Gazes Also: Brother Blood has escaped from prison and is determined to have his revenge on the Titans, but when he attempts to Mind Control Raven, even he may not be prepared for what he unleashes.
  • The Art of War: General Immortus plots world domination, the Titans try and stop him, Slade plots against them both, and who knows what Red X wants. It will take all of Robin's skills to keep the team together and unravel what the villains are really after.
  • Child of the Stars: Blackfire returns to Earth, and this time she's brought friends. Her goal? To find an alien artifact and claim its power for herself, but she may wind up getting more than she bargained for.
  • Luck of the Draw: Jinx has certainly been trying her hardest to redeem herself, but a criminal past is hard to escape, especially when the ultimate masterminds behind the HIVE Academy take a renewed interest in their prodigal student.
  • Abandon Hope, All Ye Who Enter: During a battle with Mumbo, the Titans somehow become trapped in Trigon's realm, drawn there by a mysterious sorcerer who requires Raven to fulfill his plans.
  • Sins of the Father: All of Slade's work is nearing completion, and world domination may be in his grasp. The Titans have to stop him, while trying to unravel the mystery of a girl who has her own agenda and hides her secrets behind a familiar mask.
  • Shadow of the HIVE: The HIVE's new Master is hard at working building a new criminal empire, and he's recruited the HIVE Five and Madam Rouge as his enforcers. The core Titans must team up with Jinx and Kid Flash to stop him- but are they playing right into his hands? In progress.
Tropes used in Teen Titans Saga include:
  • A God Am I: Blackfire and Starfire at the climax of Child of the Stars
  • And I Must Scream: Veneficus is ultimately trapped in the void between dimensions with no means of escape. And since demons appear to be immortal barring being killed by someone else...
  • Artifact of Doom: The Crown of X'hal
  • Ascended Extra: Immortus did practically nothing on the show; here he gets to be Big Bad for a while. The author says this is directly in response to the fact that the show wasted him as a character.
  • Badass Normal: In addition to the canon ones, there's the HIVE directors and Ravager.
  • Battle Couple: Kid Flash and Jinx
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: Twice in The Abyss; once where Dark Raven takes over, and once where she's defeated
  • Big Bad: One in each fic:
    • The Abyss: Dark Raven
    • Art: General Immortus
    • Child: Blackfire
    • Luck: HIVE Mistress
    • Sins: Slade
    • Hope: Veneficus
    • Shadow: HIVE Master
    • In general, Slade and the HIVE Master are the overarching villains of the series, and Trigon is the Bigger Bad.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Blackfire is stripped of her flight and starbolts by Starfire/X'hal.
  • The Chessmaster: Slade, Immortus, the Fifth Director later Master of the HIVE
  • Day in The Limelight: Each fic focuses on a different Titan, supporting character, and/or Rogues Gallery member.
  • Demon Lords and Archdevils: Veneficus, who is Trigon's son as well as a powerful magic user. Trigon himself is mentioned in Abyss and has a cameo in Abandon Hope -- he's still alive after what Raven did to him in canon, if only barely, and is still recovering.
  • The Dragon: Lieutenant General Smithson for Immortus; Fireblade for Blackfire; the First Director for the HIVE Mistress; and Sharpshot for Slade
    • And the end of Abandon Hope reveals that Madame Rouge is now the Dragon for the HIVE Master.
  • Disc One Final Boss: Brother Blood in The Abyss
  • Eldritch Abomination: X'hal is a borderline case.
  • Enemy Within: Dark Raven
  • Evil Sorcerer: Veneficus from Abandon Hope and Asthra Kall who is mentioned, but does not appear, in The Abyss Gazes Also.
  • Five-Bad Band:
  • Grand Finale: Shadow of the HIVE is the last fic in the series for the foreseeable future, and is intended to go out with a bang.
  • Heel Face Turn: Technically Jinx has already made hers; Luck of the Draw is about its aftermath.
  • Let's Get Dangerous: When Slade finally starts up his master plan in Sins, he stops playing around with the Titans and decides to simply kill them all.
  • Literary Allusion Title: Several
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: Veneficus is Raven's half-brother -- Trigon is his father, his mother was a random demon. Also, Ravager is Slade's daughter -- inverted in that she knows, and he doesn't.
  • Mad Scientist: All the HIVE directors
  • Mind Rape: Brother Blood's final fate is to get Mind Raped into a coma by Dark Raven
  • Never Found the Body: Slade at the end of "Sins".
  • Not So Different: In Sins of the Father, Ravager says this almost word for word to both Robin and Raven.
  • Quirky Miniboss Squad: Blackfire's "friends", the HIVE directors
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: X'hal is more of a "Sealed Destructive Amorality In a Can", but the principle is the same.
  • Split Personality Takeover: Dark Raven to regular Raven in The Abyss
  • Start of Darkness: Sins of the Father provides one for Slade, loosely adapted from the comic version's backstory.
  • The Starscream: The Fifth Director of the HIVE
  • Story Arc: While the individual fics were intended to stand alone, there are two overall plots that run through them- the Slade plot (found in The Abyss Gazes Also, The Art of War, Child of the Stars, and Sins of the Father) and the HIVE plot (found in Luck of the Draw, Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter, and Shadow of the HIVE).
  • Superpower Meltdown: Jinx suffers from this across Luck of the Draw. Turns out its largely a natural consequence of her powers getting stronger as she gets older, and she regains complete control by the end of the fic.
  • Tailor-Made Prison: Brother Blood is in one at the beginning of Abyss', designed largely to keep him from coming into contact with people he could use his Mind Control on. Thanks to a particularly stupid newbie guard, it doesn't work out...
  • Tome of Eldritch Lore: The Codex of Asthra Kall, used by Dark Raven in The Abyss
  • Wild Card: Red X, of course, and Ravager in Sins of the Father.
