The Aura Chronicles is the name of a series of Pokémon fan fics written by "Hunter Stag", AKA TV Troper theLibrarian.

The series focuses around a young boy named Hunter (the author pleads for the audience not to consider this vain, as it was the only name he could come up with), a boy who discovers that he possess the ability to manipulate Aura. Being taught by a Lucario, he learns to use his abilities. As the series progresses, he gains an apprentice of his own and makes an enemy that attempts to kill him repeatedly throughout the last three stories, culminating in an attack on Alto Mare in the last story.

The stories in the series are, in order, Teacher of the Aura, From Learner to Master, A Student's Trials. A Student Lost, Journey to Gracidea and A New Beginning. There are two shorter stories, A True Test and Aura and Inner Fire', in which Hunter faces Paul and Ash respectively.

The series was concluded in 2010 with the completion of A New Beginning.

Tropes used in The Aura Chronicles include:

• A God Am I: Deoxys gets it into its head that it will be able to kill Dialga and Palkia once it's done with the protagonist.
• Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence: Lucario, who becomes a ghost and continues to advise Hunter throughout the series.
• Attack! Attack! Attack!: The last part has Deoxys's clones keep coming at the others until Hunter beats all the rest with an exploded Aura Sphere.
• Air Jousting: Happens several times throughout the series.
• Ambiguous Gender: In From Learner To Master, Riolu alternates between being called "it" and "he". All of Hunter's other Pokemon are also referred to as "it".
• Big Friendly Pokemon: Hunter gets licked by most of his Pokemon more than a few times throughout the series, though in a partial subversion, all of them are smart.
• Babies Ever After: Taren and Mara have a baby in the end of A Student Lost, and Bianca is pregnant in the epilogue of A New Beginning.
• Back from the Dead: Hunter in the last book.
• Battle Aura: Used twice by Hunter to block attacks.
• Badass Abnormal: Hunter, aside from the powers, is a regular kid.
• Battle in the Rain: The battle between Deoxys and Hunter is this, complete with thunder and lightning. It apparently clears up after it's done.
• Beam Spam: Hunter is able to fire Aura Spheres like a machine gun, and later is able to condense them into beams.
• Big No: Happens quite a few times.
• Combat Tentacles: Deoxys fights with these, considering they're its limbs.
• Crowning Moment of Awesome: The final fight between Hunter and Deoxys, in which they throw each other around Alto Mare, smashing more than once through the side of a building.
• Crowning Moment of Funny: Butch and Cassidy make a cameo, trying to rob Hunter of his (currently non-existent) Pokemon. He blasts them out of the way after stating "I don't have time for this."
• Crowning Moment of Heartwarming: The last part of A Student Lost, which has Taren and Hunter start referring to each other as "Dad" and "son" respectively. Taren also becomes a father. There's also a section of Teacher of the Aura where Hunter and Lucario both help each other out when fighting an Ariados. Hunter heals Lucario after he's poisoned, and Lucario helps Hunter after he's injured by the Ariados.
• Curb Stomp Battle: The ending fight in Journey to Gracidea, where Hunter's Pokemon are smacked down by a possessed Aggron with any hits they score not effecting it much.
• Dead Guy, Junior: Taren's son, which they name Lucar to remember Lucario by.
• Defeat Means Friendship: Averted hard in the main plot. Basically, if you hurt Hunter or his friends, you will die. The Aggron from Journey to Gracidea and Deoxys are only two instances.
• Did Not Do the Research: Done for dramatic purposes or because of lack of caring, such as Lucario being affected by Poison-type moves (Steel-types are resistant to poison) and a kid's pet Gastly being able to lick the kid silly with no negative effects. The first is actually remarked on by a reviewer. Hunter's Umbreon is also able to use Flash Cannon, which it can't learn in the games.
• Died in Your Arms Tonight: Lucario, in Hunter's.
• Grand Theft Me: Deoxys does this twice while trying to kill Hunter, once with Taren and once with an Aggron.
• Good Old Fisticuffs: Deoxys and Hunter get into an out-and-out brawl in their final battle. Hunter and a possessed Taren also fight this way in A Student Lost.
• Genre Savvy: Deoxys leaves its clones to try and finish the job when Hunter tries to goad it into facing him itself. It also kidnaps Taren, thinking that Hunter won't fight it when it's controlling Taren's body.
• Heroic Sacrifice: Two, in the first and last stories. The first has Lucario Force Palming Hunter out of the way of Dialga and Palkia's attack, the second having Hunter fight Deoxys alone to keep it from hurting any more of his friends.
• High Altitude Battle: Most of Hunter and Deoxys's final battle is this.
• Hurricane Kick: Hunter uses one of these in the final battle. It doesn't work.
• Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Most of the stories begin with "A *insert rest of title here*"
• I Can Still Fight: Scyther does this in the last battle, managing to throw an X-Scissor at Deoxys. The attack is easily blocked and Scyther then gets a building dropped on it.
• I Got Better: Hunter.
• No, I Am Behind You: Umbreon does this with its Faint Attack.
• Ki Attacks: Aura being used as a multipurpose weapon.
• Energy Ball: Aura Spheres that all the Lucarios (and Hunter) are able to shoot.
• Filler: The author reacts with disgust in regards to his own story when he had to insert a filler chapter during a bout of writer's block.
• Face Palm of Doom: Deoxys takes an Aura Sphere to the face in the final battle.
• First Kiss: Hunter and Maylene, also the last they do.
• Flash Step: Umbreon's Faint Attack is depicted as this.
• The Mentor: Lucario, and later, Hunter to Taren.
• The Obi-Wan: Again, Lucario and Hunter.
• Taking the Bullet: Lucario.
• This Is Something He's Got to Do Himself: Hunter faces Deoxys alone, knocking out Taren to keep him from helping.
• Kid Hero: More like late teens. By the end of the series, Hunter is around eighteen years old.
• Killed Off for Real: Lucario.
• Locked Out of the Fight: In the end of Teacher of the Aura, Hunter tells Buizel to stay where it is instead of going off to fight Dialga and Palkia with Hunter and Lucario. In the final battle, everyone gets out of the city while Hunter faces down Deoxys alone.
• Lightning Bruiser: Any Pokemon that can use Quick Attack. Hunter can also do this.
• Love Triangle: Hunter is in love with both Bianca and Maylene. He and Maylene kiss in the end of A New Beginning before she goes back to Veilstone, while Hunter ends up marrying Bianca. The author says that he didn't originally intend for there to be one.
• Pokémon-Speak: Justified in that it's Pokemon. Subverted only in the case of Pokemon that can communicate telepathically, though Riley and Maylene's Lucarios can't do it.
• Parental Abandonment: Hunter's parents died in a car crash before the series started.
• Percussive Prevention: Before Hunter's final battle with Deoxys, he knocks out Taren to keep him from helping.
• Made of Iron: Several times. Hunter is thrown through several buildings in the final battle, and his Raichu survives getting thrown into a rock wall. Averted in A Student Lost, as Taren is basically dead after Hunter smashes him through a blocked cave.
• Megaton Punch: With Aura augmenting his strength, Hunter is able to smash people through buildings and solid rock..
• Mentor Occupational Hazard: The author basically reveals that Lucario's going to die in the third chapter of Teacher of the Aura.
• Mutual Kill: Hunter's Taking You with Me move in the final battle kills both Deoxys and him.
• No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: In Aura and Inner Fire, Hunter's Typhlosion to Ash's Buizel. Hunter somewhat justifies it because the Buizel he owned died in A Student's Trials.
• Second-Hour Superpower: A New Beginning has Hunter coming up with more ways to use his powers after much pestering from Lucario.
• Sword Sparks: Done without swords, normally whenever two fighters come together at high speed.
• Stupid Sacrifice: Taren calls Hunter out on this after he "dies", saying that they could have stopped Deoxys as a team.
• Shout-Out: "This scene was inspired by" is a Catch Phrase of the author's notes.
• Tear Jerker: Lucario's death in the first book, the reaction to Hunter's in the last.
• Taking You with Me: Hunter to Deoxys.
• Out of the Inferno: Deoxys flies out of explosions more than once during the finale.
• Only Mostly Dead: Averted with Lucario in the end of the first story, though he does come back as a ghost in every story. Hunter is given his life back by Arceus after pulling a Heroic Sacrifice to kill Deoxys. Taren also does this in the end of A Student Lost, though he's only brought back to life by the Sinnoh lake trio.
• Papa Wolf: Go after Hunter's adopted family. I dare you.
• Please Wake Up: Hunter to Taren in A Student Lost, then flipped in A New Beginning.
• What the Hell, Hero?: Nobody calls him out on it, but Hunter ordering his Typhlosion to beat Buizel to a pulp could count. Taren also calls him out after he dies, all the while screaming that they could have taken Deoxys together.
