The Avatars Trilogy
The Avatars Trilogy is a series of books by Tui T. Sutherland about a group of teenagers who have survived the end of the world. The five of them are lured to New York City by voices in their heads, and discover that they have been chosen by the ancient gods to represent them in a battle to the death over which set of gods will inherit the Earth.

- Dream Apocalypse: Subverted. Once Kali and Tigre get the power from the mirror, they make everyone in the illusion into real people.

- Gods Need Prayer Badly: Because they have this nasty little tendency to wink out of existence when everyone has forgotten them.

- Plot Tumor: Due to the nature of the book's writing style, some storylines lean toward this in the first book, particularly Tigre's.

- Time Skip: The main characters go through one of epic proportions.
- Twenty Minutes Into the Future: The books were published in 2006-2008, taking place in 2012 (and then in 2087).
- The Unchosen One: Gus. The gods chose to leave the Polynesian gods out altogether, due to their people being spread out all over the world, and their religion being mostly forgotten. However, the Polynesians used the last of their power to force their god of war, Oro, into Gus.
- Walking Disaster Area: Kali fits this to a T, as it is her power.
- Xanatos Roulette: Getting Oro into Gus fits this.
