- Unintentional Period Piece: The entire trilogy is very specific to 1970s Britain, and is utterly dependent upon (and thoroughly informed by) its socio-economic conditions. In the decades since it was written, London has been transformed, and the urban wastelands the Borribles lived and adventured in have mostly disappeared. Plus, as one of the few pieces of Borribles fan fiction out there notes, the evolution of England into a surveillance society with CCTV cameras on literally every corner makes it all but impossible for the Borribles to pursue and preserve their traditional way of life.
