The Chosen One/Playing With

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Basic Trope: An ancient prophecy predestines one person to save the world.

  • Straight: High school student Alice McNormal is revealed, by a 1000-year-old prophecy, to be the sole heroine that can prevent the return of Necromancer Ned.
  • Exaggerated: It was ordained, from the moment humans first walked the Earth, that Alice would stop Ned from foolishly unleashing Eldritch Abominations on the world, and save humanity from a Fate Worse Than Death.
  • Downplayed: There are other ways to prevent Ned's return, and the guardians of the prophecy are working on them, but Alice is still their best bet.
  • Justified: The Amulet of Light is the only artifact that can stop Ned, but it only responds to the one person it deems worthy. The prophecy is a means of tracking down that one person, should the amulet's power ever be needed.
  • Inverted: Alice McNormal is revealed by the prophecy to be The Antichrist, destined to bring doom to the world.
  • Subverted: ???
  • Double Subverted: ???
  • Parodied: Idiot Hero Bob is the only one that can stop Necromancer Ned. He causes almost as much mayhem as Necromancer Ned, to the point that people start to think that maybe being zombie slaves to an evil overlord wouldn't be so bad after all.
