- Complete Monster - Most of the Soul Eaters could be argued for, but Thiazzi is the stand-out.
- Crowning Moment of Awesome- The series is made from these. At least three in each book! And Renn and her archery and plain ol' Badass -ery get quite a few. As do Torak and his spirit walking.
- Crowning Moment of Heartwarming- Again, a lot. Specifically: When Torak helps Renn draw Death Marks on Seshru in Outcast. When Renn kisses Torak in Oath Breaker and when Torak kisses her in Ghost Hunter. And a lot more.
- Die for Our Ship - Poor Bale.
- High Octane Nightmare Fuel - Tokoroths! They are very young children stolen from their families, enclosed in a cave, fed only rotting bat meat. Their teeth, fingernail, and toenails are filed to a point. They are kept like that until they have forgotten even the face of their mother. Then a demon is trapped inside of them. They then do crazy-evil stuff, at the bid of their creator. Renn is often said to have a "sharp-toothed grin", which is fine, until in Outcast Seshru reveals that she was preparing Renn to be a tokoroth, until Saeunn saved her as a baby... That just makes it darkly serious.
- Nightmare Fuel - Seshru, Thiazzi, and Eostra. The demon bear. Eostra's dogs, especially when they attack Renn. Eostra's owl. The tokoroths.
- Tear Jerker - When Eostra's owl attacks the wolves in Ghost Hunter. The scene in Ghost Hunter when Torak says goodbye to Renn and kisses her. Also, later in the book when Renn is thinking continuing her life after Torak dies. But he comes back to life, but when she realizes that, it was also a tear jerking part. The last few pages of Ghost Hunter. So, uh, most of Ghost Hunter.
- Wangst - Various degrees with most of the main characters. Namely, Torak.
