The Chronicles of Narnia/Fanfic Recs

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Proof that the remaining 10% is worth dying for here:

These are recommendations made by Tropers for Fan Fics, all of which have been signed. After a few samples, you will be able to judge whether you might be interested in the 'fic, based on who recommended it. No-name recommendations will be Zapped (wiki). Nobody would back up the rec. Discussion of the recommendation is welcome on the discussion page. As such discussion is important, do remember to add the discussion page to the watchlist, if need be.

Do warn when a fanfic may head into homosexual or non-canon territory. Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business.

Status guide:

  • Ongoing: The fic is being updated on a regular basis,[1] or has received an update after a significant absence.

General Fics

Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

Black Dwarfs, Blue River, by elecktrum

  • Recommended by timeywimey
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Relating the story of King Edmund's first diplomatic success, how he learned a craft, and why his older brother is known throughout the Black Dwarf clan as Nancy.

The Queen's Return, by honorh

  • Recommended by Uinen
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Once a King or Queen in Narnia, always a King or Queen in Narnia. Anxious to fit in, Susan Pevensie suppresses her memories of Narnia as she grows older, even after the train crash that leaves her alone in the world. Then a Christmas present and a dream bring renewed meaning to her shattered life. A moving fic which provides a less, well, horrific response to Neil Gaiman's "The Problem of Susan".
  • Pairing: Susan/OC
  • Tags: Continuation, Original Flavour

And Indeed There Will Be Time, by Signe

  • Recommended by Kizor
  • Status: Complete.
  • Synopsis: The anti-Went Forth Unconquered. Short, sappy, repetitive, disgustingly sweet. Recommended.

National Service, by burntcopper

  • Recommended by Terrie
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: An ongoing series, but each story is complete and there are no cliffhangers. Movie-canon. The series offers an amazing look at what it would mean to have the memories of feudal warrior-kings and -queens, but inside a young body in mid-20th Century England.

Carpetbaggers, by cofax

  • Recommended by Sophrosyne
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: The day after Aslan left, taking the magic with him, just about everyone else left, too. After the coronation festivities, the real work begins. During/post "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe". Part 1 of Carpetbaggers series.

  • Recommended by Halinmnok
  • Status:
  • Pairing(s): Susan/Caspian
  • Synopsis: Back in England Susan grows up being reasonable rather than silly. But the course of history has already shifted and the Pevensie children are doomed to their train wreck. Aslan grants Susan a second chance at the life she never had in Narnia.

And Ye Shall Receive, by whydoyouneedtoknow

  • Recommended by Ranmouri
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairings: Susan/Caspian
  • Synopsis: Oneshot, another way of answering "The Problem of Susan". Or, in the author's words: "[a]n attempt to reconcile movie canon with book canon, and also to clear up a few distressing aspects of the latter." Highly recommended.

Kings Love by Mel Blue 1

  • Recommended by: possesedangel
  • Status: Complete, part of ongoing series
  • Pairings: Caspian/Edmund
  • Synopsis: Bookverse. A slashy version of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. This is hands down the best Edmund/Caspian fic I've read, as it delves in detail into the emotions and convictions of the characters, emphasizing their difficulty to communicate. It is very in-character, and the author isn't afraid to show their internal conflicts rather than injecting external angst. The emphasis on age difference may not appeal to all. Long.

Like an Onion Inside Out (The Doctor, the Queen, and the TARDIS Remix) by spiralleds

  • Recommended by Looney Toons
  • Crossover with: Doctor Who
  • Pairings: The Doctor/Susan Pevensie
  • Status: Complete
  • Warnings: Major Character Death
  • Synopsis: Susan Pevensie met the Doctor three times in the course of her life—once in a cemetery, once in her attic, and once after the death of her siblings. The third time she did not refuse the call—and her companionship led the Doctor to a place he'd never been before.
  • Comments: A beautiful story with an uplifting ending. Especially noteworthy for a wonderful idea I've never seen anywhere else—a notebook stashed away in the Companions' quarters of the TARDIS, entitled The Care and Feeding of your Doctor, containing decades' worth of hand-written observations and advice about the Doctor from those closest to him. (Looney Toons)

Alfred the Great by Grav

  • Recommended by Caysha
  • Status: Complete
  • Fandoms: Narnia, Batman
  • Synopsis: When he was a boy, he dreamed of paved streets and electric lights. When he was a young man he dreamed of bats and vengeance. And when he was an old man, he dreamed of apple trees and lions. Batman crossover.

Meadows of Heaven by Mystical Magician

  • Recommended by Looney Toons
  • Crossover with: Harry Potter
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: When Susan Minerva Pevensie finds herself alone after the deaths of her siblings, she discovers that she possesses another kind of magic besides that of Narnia, a magic that leads her to the British Wizarding World, marriage, a teaching career—and a destiny at the side of a prized student.
