The Fanfiction Forum

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

"Welcome to TFF. Do remember to leave your sanity at the door. You won't be needing it."

Created on November 14, 2005, by the Swedish fan fiction writer Hawk, The Fanfiction Forum, commonly abbreviated as TFF, was an invisionfree board and currently a MyBB board dedicated to writing and critiquing works of fan fiction. One of the older and more complete forums on the subject, It contains 21 primary discussion and posting boards for various series, along with several other boards dedicated to general discussion, writing resources, games, writing challenges and, of course, porn. It is the origin of several very weird but popular fics, such as Gaijin, Infinite Loops, People Lie, Reload, and Shinji and Warhammer40K.

It also happens to be home to Watashiwa's Iron Fic challenge.

Currently located here. A link to the original site is here. You'll need an account to view either forum.

Tropes used in The Fanfiction Forum include:
  • A God Am I - Hawk. Originally the only one with mod powers. The jury is still out on that one. Others at TFF do not trust each other not to go on a power-trip complete with mad laughter. Also a claim made by many of the members.
    • This attitude changed somewhat once the board was transferred. Shirotsume, the one responsible, did not want to be the admin, and instead voting was upheld to ensure there would be a proper selection of admins and mods. This went well... with a few issues here and there.
      • Despite this, TFF remains under a policy of self-policing as a whole; mods and admins only get involve in legitimate issues, and not in minor scuffles between members.
  • Blatant Lies - An unofficial motto: "Don't you know that people lie?" Currently out of date.
  • Catgirl - Love/Hate relationship with them.
  • Crack Fic - Possibly TFF's only redeeming value.
    • Examples include things by Innortal (Shinji and Pen Pen's Amazing Journey and Loops), Lord Raa (Top Banana, Exit Obstructed By a Bear), AJT (Harry Potter & the Combat Butler)...
  • Dead Fic - A lot of them.
  • Deadpan Snarker - Immortalized with zeebee01. Posts where he has nothing negative to say about your idea are very rare.
  • Fanfic - Well, what did you expect with that name?
  • Finagle's Law - Combined with the inversion/defiance below. Most members are young adults, or at least definitely adult males, and as such, are prone to coming up with some naughty ideas.
  • Flame War - Anything. Literally. ANYTHING.
  • Hatedom - Not quite as much as one might expect. Most of it is Broken Base, but there are some notable exceptions. (See Blatant Lies)
  • Hive Mind - Used to exist. According to the previous version, "The TFF Hivemind exists because TFF itself, is forced to police and moderate itself. As expected, it does not end well. Not unexpectedly, TFF loathes itself with all the loathing of a thousand frozen tentacles, except when sometimes the vicious heat and crushing insanity produce the occasional shining gem of a fanfic. When The Hivemind Approves, then someone has either made something that can soothe even a screaming mass of inconsistent and self-contradicting tendencies, or it's something that speaks to universal human suffering." As it is, now TFF obeys the orders of Watashiwa, whose word is Law. The Ero Sennin, GenocideHeart, Moshulel, and chronodekar are the minions and underlings.
  • Loads and Loads of Characters - TFF has over 10,000 members, and over 200 with 1,000+ posts.
    • The new version is quickly approaching 15,000, with almost 300 having more than 1,000 posts.
  • Most Fanfic Writers Are Girls - Generally defied. Although there are several major female posters, the majority is still male. Or undefined.
  • Real Life - Keeps getting in the way.
  • Self-Destruct Mechanism - Bring a topic members will be divided over and watch the fireworks.
    • A thread isn't successful until it's been threadjacked.
  • Stuff Blowing Up - The members of the Anbu Demolition Corps, an invention of TFF's hivemind, are masters of this trope.
  • Troll - Quite a few of them. Most of them will refuse to admit it, of course, but even a cursory glance at the site will make them pretty obvious.
    • Lord Raine used to be the mascot troll in the old board; basically every member worth his salt knew s/he would do it in almost every thread s/he posted in, and most did not find him/her amusing at all, but nobody could stop him/her from posting at all. During the voting for the new leadership of the forum, Lord Raine attempted to start a flame war to disrupt voting when it became apparent that s/he would not win the vote. As a result, s/he left TFF as s/he would not be able to continue trolling and harassing people without the protection offered by a admin position.
  • Tsundere - TFF does not like the classic tsunderes much. Expect to see them being criticised for being overly nasty to the preferred characters.
