The Legend of Maian (마이언 전기 Mayan Chronicles) is a Korean novel and a 2007-2016 manhwa created by Lim Dall-young and illustrated by Soo-Cheol Jeong. The plot revolves around the story of Fenix Maian, a weak and naive young man who unknowingly unleashes the powerful sorceress Feicia Rand Philistine.

The Legend of Maian takes place in the fictional kingdom of Shurian. Here, the countries bid for power by using regular military means or by using joosts (mages) or people that can use madra (magic). Of all the countries, the countries of Shurian and Pennsylvania are the strongest. Each country is ruled by a king with its joosts often having a high-ranking position. So far, only Shurian, Meningrad and Pennsylvania are the only countries to be mentioned.

The powerful sorceress, Feicia Rand Philistine, once tried to Take Over the World. In the wake of her terror and destruction, a young man rebelled against her oppression and domination. The people called him Yongja Maian (Maian the brave) and it was he who was eventually able to seal away the evil sorceress.

A thousand years later Fenix Maian, a descendant of Maian the Brave has just probably made the biggest mistake of his life when he releases the sealed sorceress that his ancestors have tried so hard to imprison. Now he is charged with the task of trying to keep the sorceress from once again trying to take over the world...

  • The Berserker: Anyone with the Devilshu Curse. Fenix post-time skip. It's a pretty serious case to, as it apparently doesn't take much to push him into this state. Though whether it is from unresolved grief over what happened to Felicia or his powers being uncontrollable is yet to be seen.
  • Boring Invincible Hero: The main characters, except Felix and Ruby, which is part of what leads to Felicia's demise.
  • Call a Rabbit a Smeerp: Humans are called Shurian.
  • Co-Dragons: The Regis Knights to Feicia. The apparent Big Bad is one of them, making him a Dragon Ascendant.
    • Post time skip, the Big Bad has a set of his own now. Felicia is one of them due to memory loss and brainwashing.
  • Clothing Damage: Happens during Felicia's first match during the Tournament Arc.
  • Church Militant: The church sister Cornelia. Her church taught their nuns how to wield weapons and cast battle spells.
  • Crutch Character: Felicia
  • Deflector Shields: Another of Feicia's spells, simple called Absolute Defense Field. Seems to be limited to holding two people.
  • Don't Touch It, You Idiot!: The seal that kept Feicia a prisoner.

  • Hot Witch: Felicia, Lyna, and others. Post time skip, Ruby is on her way to being one.
  • Humans Are the Real Monsters: Pretty much the whole premise, although it could just be said humans are very human centric, and just happen to be the most powerful race so we hurt the most other species. We have not seen the other races acting any better or really at all mostly.
  • Ignored Enemy: Oh so many times. Then again there are very few enemies who take them on in a fight.
  • Jekyll and Hyde: Those who suffer the Devilshu curse are generally nice people until their curse acts up which will make them either very big Jerk asses or full on Berserker.
  • Kill It with Fire: Felicia tends to do this with her enemies.
  • Kill Sat: One of Felix's powers. His Ancestor could do it to.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: Ruby was Fenix's only companion during the five year Time Skip, and the only person thus-far that has had any sort of success in pulling him out of his Berserk rages (though it takes a lot of effort on her part)
  • Long Bus Trip: After not appearing since the second chapter of the series, Felix's brother Lans and wife appear in Volume 13 again and have several chapters about their times.
  • The Lost Lenore: Felicia becomes one with her apparent death and then brainwashing.
  • Lost Magic: The only reason Pennsylvania is a threat is that they have been learning all of Feicia's old magic spells and summons.
  • Love Triangle: Fenix is in love with his brother's wife, she kinda flirts with him, and his brother is well married to her. Then Fenix left that village and the whole thing took background to the plot.
    • Fenix, Felicia, and Ruby: it's quite clear that both the girls like Fenix, but his affections for them have not been specified although it seems like he gets jealous over Felicia.
      • Which has concluded into choosing Felicia... till she died.
  • Magic Knight: Fenix after the Time Skip.
  • Making a Splash: Ma Jin made quite an entré with a bit of water.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Fenix expected this, most likely because of his family, but Feicia subverted it.

  • Not Quite Dead: A woman with Felicia's name and power is serving the Big Bad but has no memory of her time with Felix.

  • Person of Mass Destruction: To be on the safe side all main characters and villains count, yes even Felix(eventually). For example Lyna is basically a walking nuclear warhead.
    • Funny you should say that. A nuclear explosion is exactly what finally takes out Felicia.
  • Playing with Fire: Another of Feicia's favorite attack methods and the weakness of the monster trees.

  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: The divine power that granted Paiaz Maian victory over Felicia turns its user's eyes red. Felicia has stated in no uncertain terms that if Felix ever manifests that power she will consider him an enemy and strike him down. Though, she decides to just sleep with him instead.
  • The Rival: Lyna Mia Delta is stated to be Feicia's rival.

  • Squishy Wizard: Feicia, despite her power is pretty weak physically. She's no more stronger than an ordinary woman and even Fenix can take her down.

  • Super-Powered Evil Side: Fenix, post Time Skip. He's clearly very powerful, but his inability to control himself makes him a danger to everyone around him.
  • Taking You with Me: Averted hard. Maian the Brave died in his battle against Felicia, but did not chose to kill her. Instead he sealed her powers.
  • Tears of Blood: Uraeshi Soun, clearly visible in the flashback, following the death of Ellina.

  • Time Skip: Part 2 starts about 5 years after Felicia's death. The Big Bad has started an all out war against the other nations and it isn't going well for them.
  • Token Loli: Ruby probable to balance out Feicia.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Felix during the Tournament Arc, as in caught a knife to the face. No it didn't hit his face he caught it both hands before it did.
    • Felix was actually forced into joining the tournament by Felicia so that he could take this level and to give Felicia the chance to see if Felix might have inherited the power that defeated her in the past.
    • Arguably Ruby for always standing between Felix in his berserk state and potential victims. She doesn't even flinch when she knocked him out with a surprise attack. Compare this to the whiny girl from five years ago.

  • Took a Level in Jerkass: The years during the Time Skip were not kind to Felix, turning him into a cold and cynical Anit Hero.
    • Might have something to do with going berserk for unknown reasons.
    • Jerk With a Heat of Gold: The old Felix still shines through on occasion

  • Touched by Vorlons: It is said Maian the Brave was blessed by three powerful goddesses, including the Goddess of Creation Warna Val Nagasath.
  • True Companions: Two distinct sets in ancient times. Maian the Brave had Combat Expert Cein Meed, Kaizer Master Ultimate Dragoon Olienne Vishuel, Rand Seiron Mercenary King Diglant Filtnei, and Feil Master Blade Master Demisiren Ian Milicent. Felicia had her Regis Knights as well.
