The Lion King/Nightmare Fuel

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

It's the Disney Animated Canon. You Should Know This Already. Examples:

Movie

  • Be Prepared. The similarities to Nazis in the Be Prepared number, especially the hyena marching part.
  • The scene of Scar leaping at Simba, teeth bared and claws out with fire burning behind him. He looks like Satan leaping out of Hell. Try seeing that in 3D. '
  • Scar's death.
    • The leadup to it. After Scar has tried to kill Simba and fallen into a crevasse, Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed approach. Scar addresses his friends, to which Shenzi says, "Friends? I thought he said we were the enemy?" Shenzi and Banzai turn to Ed... who breaks into a creepy giggle like nothing we have heard before... and it is TERRIFYING.
    • Scar getting eaten by hyenas would be like Sesame Street after watching the alternate ending to The Lion King on Youtube. Scar defeats Simba and Scar gets engulfed in flames resulting in the destruction of Pride Rock. If you look closely at the sketches, he seems to be reduced to bone for a short time.
    • An early draft of this scene, which probably would've made this movie dark and kid unfriendly, makes it a thousand times worse. In this draft, Scar says, "My friends," when the whole pack of hyenas approach instead of Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed approaching first and there's no lines from Shenzi and Banzai nor Ed's creepy laugh, in fact the script implies that Banzai and Ed die when they are catapulted into a flaming tree and Shenzi is the only one who approaches from behind and hears Scar betraying the hyenas. The thing about that scene in the draft: the hyenas are still laughing even as they attack him!
  • And Mufasa's death was equal parts this and Tear Jerker fuel. Scar could have easily left him to die, but apparently, he wanted him to die in abject horror. So, he digs his claws into his arms, tells him "Long live the king.", then pushes him off to his death.
  • "Long live the king..." The way Scar delivered that particular line was rather spine chilling. Now with 27 effects.
  • Scar manipulating Simba into thinking it's his fault Mufasa died while they're standing near Mufasa's dead body |and then when Simba runs away Scar orders the hyenas to kill him.
  • While he normally isn't scary, Rafiki's insane laughter as Simba chases him through the jungle can be considered unsettling.
  • A deleted scene that is mostly restored in the play as "The Madness of King Scar" is downright creepy. The play version is simply discomforting. The film version is downright disturbing. Scar starts hitting on Nala, wanting to her his queen. She refuses. In front of the entire pride, he banishes her. In and of itself the scene is mildly unsettling. The way Scar says his lines, though, is outright disturbing.

Sequels

  • Have you ever really listened to the lyrics of "Not One Of Us?" It's a tie between Nightmare and Tear Jerker.

Born in grief, raised in hate.
Helpless to defy his fate.
Let him run, let him live.
But do not forget what we cannot forgive.

The German lyrics, which roughly translate into:

Hate and envy, high treason.
Nothing excuses this action.
Let him go, let him flee.
But we will never forget this crime.

And there is an insinuation in some of the translations that the crime that they will never forgive and never forget is not attempting to assassinate Simba, but rather the fact that he is not one of them.
  • The No-Holds-Barred Beatdown Zira and her followers unleash on Simba.
  • The huge brushfire, along with the image of Kiara coughing hard and eventually passing out from all the smoke.
