  • And somewhat ironically, just as ABC was taking pains to emphasize the characters' divorced status, CBS was insisting just as strongly that Mary Richards NOT be divorced as The Mary Tyler Moore Show's creators intended her to be. (A male/female double standard, if ever there was one!)
