The Official Unofficial Ouendan EBA Formspring RP

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

The Official Unofficial Ouendan-EBA Formspring RP (Not the actual title) is a series of non-official Character Blogs featuring, well... the Ouendan and Elite Beat Agents. On Formspring. It's very Slice of Life, with plenty of Alternate Character Interpretation among other interesting things.

Links to the blogs that are not disabled will be on the Characters page, as well as any character-specific tropes.

Tropes used in The Official Unofficial Ouendan EBA Formspring RP include:
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Momotaro is often on the receiving end of these though other characters occasionally receive this too.
  • Air Hugging: The characters aren't always implied to be in the same place, hence the Internet hugs that occur.
    • In a different sense, averted, as a majority of the guys aren't afraid of embracing each other. Whether these are Man Hugs or otherwise isn't really specified.
  • Alice Allusion: Alice, Theo and Regina are based on characters from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
    • They also travel from place to place, via Magic Mirror.
    • Momo, Red, and Snow also come from a place called Wonderland.
  • All There in the Manual: This page is pretty much the main "manual" for some of the characters' backstories. There are also a few other works made by the RPers showing things such as What If scenarios and characters not seen in the RP proper. Said scenarios may also count as Recursive Fanfiction.
  • All Work vs. All Play: Ryuuta is all work. Sayaka is all play.
  • Amusing Injuries: Between Ryuuta banging his head against a large rock and Sayaka breaking a rib while rolling down a hill, there's plenty of amusement to be had.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Averted. There's no reason why they shouldn't believe in the things they encounter. Although for some reason, Chieftain only half-acknowledges the existence of aliens [dead link].
    • Chie still finds the non-Persona related things around her hard to believe, though.
  • Asian Gal with White Guy: Rin and J. Inverted with Hajime and Missy.
  • Badass Princess: Snow White.
  • Bare Your Midriff: The Cheer Girls and Divas. Snow White and Regina.
  • Bathroom Break Out: Attempted by Sayaka to escape Dante. Unfortunately Dante has teleportation skills.
  • Battle Couples: Alice and Theo. Regina and Khervion. Pit and Red.
  • Beauty, Brains, and Brawn: Again, the Cheer Girls and Divas.
    • Yuuhi: Sayaka - Brawn, Anna - Beauty, Aoi - Brains
    • Asahi: Rin - Brawn, Reika - Brains, Honoka - Beauty
    • Divas: Starr - Beauty, Foxx - Brains, Missy - Brawn
    • It could be argued that the Divas represent this trope better than the Yuuhi and Asahi since Sayaka has shown all three traits, and Aoi can be seen as a Brainless Beauty. Reika can also be considered the brains and beauty of her group.
  • The Bechdel Test: Passes!
  • The Bet: Invoked all the time. The loser usually ends up crossdressing.
  • Better as Friends: Hajime and Missy. And more recently, Hajime and Sayaka.
    • Hajime and Missy have recently gotten back together.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: See World of Badass
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: Applies to most of the male characters. Mostly noticeable on Ryuuta, Kai, Hayato, and J.
  • Big "What?": Happens when a character is confused or shocked. Seems to happen a lot with Hajime.
  • Bilingual Dialogue: Happens quite a bit with the Ouendan.
    • Taichi also speaks French, every now and then.
    • Rho includes some Vietnamese in her dialog as well.
    • In an odd case, Taichi and Sayaka had a conversation in binary and base64. It's probable that all the parties involved threw their text into a translator, though. Haruka and Ryuuta did just that to see what was going on.
    • Khervion can speak Draconic due to him being a dragon himself.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Sometimes it happens, complete with Lampshade Hanging over the ruins.
    • Trisil is especially guilty of this.
  • Call Back: Past events can be brought up at a notable rate.
  • Caught On Film: A few incidents end up recorded, much to the victim's dismay. Unless you count the fact that the site keeps track of practically every detail.
  • Chained to a Bed: Done once to Hajime early on by Kai. No girls were involved.
  • Change the Uncomfortable Subject: Prone to occur from time to time.
  • Character Development: Due to many events, most of them have changed compared to when they first started their blog.
  • Characterization Marches On: Some of these changes aren't necessarily caused by canonical events, but simply a change in writing.
  • Chekhov's Skill: The Ouendan's ability to "read auras". It comes in handy when looking for people, helps determine whether a target is worthy of help, and to tell a person's mood.
    • It's worth noting that J is the only Agent to master the skill. Spin's still learning.
  • Christmas Episode: Involving a lot of mistletoe.
  • Color Coded for Your Convenience: The Yuuhi wear black and red. The Asahi wear blue and white. The cheer girls are opposite this. The Yuuhi cheer girls wear blue. The Asahi girls wear red.
    • The EBA are often identified by green, although they are The Men in Black and the Divas mainly wear red.
  • Commuting on a Bus: Some characters tend to disappear for awhile, return, then disappear again.
    • The fact that most of the role players have pretty busy lives is the main contributing factor.
  • Competence Zone: Averted. Age doesn't make a difference here, even when not in the twenties age range.
    • Occasionally played straight or inverted.
  • Continuity Drift: Due to players' different perspectives on the games as well as the continual introduction of outside fandoms.
  • Continuity Nod: Characters sometimes reference the events that happened in their games.
    • Remember When You Saved The Sun From Dying? The sun-saving incident gets mentioned especially often. Other examples involve the zombie infestation of Wonderland, Taichi's dimension-hopping, and the Rhombulan invasion.
  • Cool Boat: The Asahi Sunrise. ..The third.
  • Cool Shades: Worn by The Elite Beat Agents.
  • Cosplay Otaku Girl: Applies to some of the girls in the group including Sayaka, Ageha, Honoka, and Red, naturally leading to...
  • Crap Saccharine World: Think about it. Almost everyone has some sort of troubled past or family issue, four characters are basically a bad day away from trying to kill everyone and the one thing preventing one of them from doing so is gone now, the resident Cute Shotaro Boys are traumatized from having to fight their friends, and the world has almost been destroyed/taken over nine times [1].
  • Crossover Shipping: Shipping can get pretty interesting because of this.
  • Dance of Romance
  • Death by Newbery Medal: Spin seems to be highly aware of this trope, when he and Missy are discussing a book she's reading.

BA5Spin: Hey, Missy-girl! Whatcha reading?
BD3Missy: A Boy, A Girl, and Their Dog~ *holds up the book, showing an award sticker on the cover*
BA5Spin: *stares at the cover* .......Yeah, somebody's gonna get bumped off. Either the girl, the dog, the boy, or all three.

  • Department of Redundancy Department: The name of the Asahi's boat. The name of their boat is Asahi Sunrise III, and Asahi means 'sunrise'. So...basically the name of their sailing vessel is "Sunrise Sunrise III".
  • Dramedy
  • Dysfunction Junction: Darn near every character has some sort of dark and tragic past.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Quote suggested that they visit Upper Misaka-cho sometime. Note that this was long before Taichi made an appearance.
  • Expy: Let's see, where to start....? Spin looks like Hajime. J resembles Ryuuta. Chieftain has a bit of a passing resemblance to Kai. Starr looks like a combination of Sayaka and Anna. Anna, Foxx, and Reika have similar facial features. Honoka and Missy look alike, as well. And both keep their hair in two pigtails like Aoi.
  • Eye Takes
  • Fan Nickname: Inverted, as the characters call the anons "pee stains".
  • Fantastic Romance: Red Riding Hood and Pit. And Regina and Khervion. See also Mayfly-December Romance.
  • Form-Fitting Wardrobe: Most, if not all of the female characters. Some of the guys, too.
  • Friendly Tickle Torture: Sayaka, Rin, and Honoka gave Hajime a tickle attack at one point.
    • Sayaka also once gave Momo this treatment to make him spill the beans about his cooking skills.
    • Kai gave this treatment to Kaoru and later Ryuuta.
  • Frothy Mugs of Water: Unsurprisingly averted, given the "adult content" of this RP.
  • Gamer Chick: Sayaka, Rin, and Missy.
  • Get a Hold of Yourself, Man!: Hajime is often subject to receiving this.
  • The Ghost: Numerous friends and relatives mentioned by the characters.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: Played straight for the most part; most of the females love plushies with differing levels.
    • Differing levels, indeed. Regina beheads her teddy bears because she thinks they look cuter that way.
  • Hair Decorations: Sayaka's hair tie, Rin's hairband, Missy's two hair ties, Reika's hair clips, Red's flower, Regina's pearls, Ageha's scrunchie, Aoi's two hair bows, Snow White's hair bow, Alice's hairband, and Honoka's bunny hair clips and hair ties. Phew!
  • Halloween Episode: Involved karaoke, a little bit of inebriation, and a short-lived haunted house. All in costume, of course.
  • Headbutt Thermometer
  • Heroes Gone Fishing: The whole thing revolves around this!
  • Heroic BSOD: Some of the dramatic events can be quite traumatizing. Although they don't always last that long, depending on the character.
  • Hey, Let's Put on a Show: Red and Curly had invoked this at least once out of boredom.
  • Hidden Depths: Applies to a good number of the characters.
  • Hotblooded Sideburns: Ryuuta, Kai, and J.
  • Hot Guys Are Bastards: Hayato and Dante.
    • Hajime on occasion.
  • Hot Springs Episode: Inevitable when there's a Ryokan nearby.
  • Humble Heroes: None of the characters brag about their heroic deeds.
  • Hunk: Some of the male characters.
  • Hypocritical Heartwarming: Especially noticeable with Hajime and Sayaka who argue on a usual basis.
  • Improbable Hairstyle: Ryuuta, Kai, and J.
  • In Name Only: Snow White has very little in common with her fairy tale and Disney counterpart. Same with both Wonderlands.
    • The same could be said about Alice, The Mad Hatter, and The Queen of Hearts. Alice is a scythe wielding Badass. Theo is a Musical Assassin hatter. And Regina is a Spoiled Sweet young lady with super strength (among other powers) and a case of bipolar. Though, it probably could be argued that Carroll's Queen of Hearts suffered from the same disorder..
  • In Vino Veritas: When people get drunk, Hilarity Ensues.
  • Japanese Sibling Terminology: Rachii and Momo uses these with certain people, regardless of lack of blood relations.
  • Karaoke Box: There's often a karaoke party once in a while.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lovers: Most notably Kai and Suzuki.
    • Ageha notes this in her username.
  • Even Heroes Have Heroes: The gang can have their own fanboy/fangirl moments at times.
  • Kubrick Stare: Displayed in some of the character's "photos".
  • Let's Mock the Monsters: Occurs whenever an anon decides to Troll the characters, particularly Kaoru.
    • Probably because Kaoru can be a troll himself if he wants to.
  • Let's Just Be Friends: Occurs twice so far with Hajime and Irisu and again with Sayaka and Momotaro with the latter pair including this phrase word for word. However, it's somewhat averted as both couples still maintained their friendships after wards with not much trouble.
    • To be fair, Irisu didn't take it too well at first.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Sayaka has sibling-like bonds with Hajime and Momotaro.
    • Though, those "sibling-like bonds" are slowly coming apart between Sayaka and Hajime, since they seem to be becoming more than just friends.
  • Loads and Loads of Characters: And this is while we aren't counting the anons.
  • Logic Bomb: There is an anon account.
  • Long-Distance Relationship: J and Rin.
  • Lovecraft Lite: Now that there are very powerful entities around, who just want to make friends.
  • Love Dodecahedron: Irisu had a crush on Hajime, whom had a small crush on Shinta while he was dating Missy. Aoi seemed to have a thing for Hajime, too, but she was crushing on Chieftain. Sayaka had a crush on J whom has a crush on Rin. Rin has the same feelings for J. Momotaro was crushing on Sayaka. They dated for a while, then broke up. Ryuuta has feelings for Sayaka, whom also had feelings for him. So, they dated for a while, then broke up. Sayaka amphibiously held some feelings for Taichi. Taichi in turn would hit on any female as long as she was pretty. He and Sayaka had a one night stand. Hajime and Missy then break up. Sayaka now has a crush on Shinta. Shinta seems to feel the same. During this time, Hajime and Sayaka decide to "experiment" by kissing each other in an attempt to prove to themselves that they'll never be more than friends. Doesn't quite go as planned. Hajime had developed a crush on her, but is pretty much over it now.
    • It's interesting to note that during all of this, J and Rin are the only two to keep a steady relationship.
  • Love Triangle: There have been a few, most notably the one with Missy, Hajime, and Irisu; along with another of Ryuuta, Sayaka, and Momotaro.
  • Luminescent Blush: Hajime and Kaoru can get flustered VERY easily.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Sayaka and Shinta
  • Mayfly-December Romance: Pit and Red. Also Khervion and Regina. See also Fantastic Romance.
  • Mean Character, Nice RPer: Some of the characters can be downright rude and snarky, but the folks playing said characters are quite friendly.
  • Medium Awareness
  • Mega Crossover: There are characters from Cave Story, Zombie Panic in Wonderland, Irisu Syndrome and CROSS†CHANNEL, alongside a few Original Characters from original and canon universes.
    • And Chie's arrival means that the Persona series can be counted as well.
    • Now Kid Icarus (and by extent Super Smash Bros.) has been tossed into the mix with Pit joining the gang.
    • Dante has recently made an appearance.
    • And now Luigi.
  • Meganekko: Aoi, Reika, and Sayaka when she's not wearing her contacts.
  • The Men in Black: The Agents.
  • Mood Whiplash: You'd be surprised at how often dramatic and non-dramatic events happen to occur at around the same time.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Most of the guys.
  • Ms. Fanservice: The majority of female characters. Sayaka in particular. Out of all the girls, she's the one who has worn the most revealing/tight outfits.
  • Mundane Fantastic: Just look at the quote up there.
  • Nakama
  • Never Say That Again: Hajime HATES the word "panties", and being called "cute". And just the mere mention of the word "typo" sends him off the deep end.
  • Nice Hat: Hajime, Kai, Agent Morris, Agent Chieftain, the Divas, Quote, Theo, and Irisu.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Due to the large crossover of characters, not to mention the amount of fanart made specifically for the RP or not.
  • The Not-Secret: It's hard to keep a secret government organization "secret" when every Agent has an account.
  • Not So Different: Rachii and Irisu have disturbingly similar character arcs, despite being opposites in terms of personality.
    • Both were Spurned Into Suicide after a major decision on their crushes' parts.
    • Both had their accounts temporarily taken over by a guy they knew well.
    • Both recovered rather quickly, which is a good thing.
    • Hajime and Taichi have similar characteristics as seen here [dead link]
  • OC Stand-In: Again, not a lot of canon is present, so it effectively makes almost every character this.
  • Oh Crap! There's a TVTropes Page Of Us...: We just went recursive [dead link].
  • Older Than They Look: Applies to a handful of the characters, most notably Momo.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Agent J. Kahn states that "Kahn" is only his codename as well.
    • Arguably, most of the Agents apply to this trope.
  • Only Sane Men: Kai and Chieftain, most notably.
    • Hajime, Shinta, and Derek become this on occasion.
    • Reika, Honoka, Foxx, Alice, (and possibly Starr) are the only sane women.
  • Perfect Health: Played straight and averted. There are characters that have been sick, and others who haven't sneezed or coughed since they appeared.
  • Platonic Life Partners: Taichi and Sayaka are... an interesting duo.
    • Now subverted as Sayaka developed feelings for him.
  • Politically-Correct History: Surprisingly averted when Spin mentions that during his Time Travel mission to help Leonardo da vinci, people would give him stares.

BA5Spin: Pretty hard doing a cheer for Mr. Da Vinci when people stare and scoff.

  • Poor Communication Kills: Happens quite often.
  • Pressure Point: Kai once knocked out Kaoru using this upon request from the Asahi danchou himself.
    • But months before that, Kaoru used this with Kai. Coincidentally, they were both done on request.
  • Put on a Bus: Occurs to several of the characters.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Snow White, of course. There are also some male examples: Kai, Chieftain, Saitou, Momotaro, and Quote.
    • Hajime was this for a short while when he let his hair grow back.
    • Rachii is a real life example, if her icons are anything to go by.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: Thanks to Rachii and her brother.
    • Also some issues of the RP-ers' lives may interfere with the plots too.
  • Red-Headed Heroes: Ryuuta, J, Missy, Sugita, Regina, Theo (though his is more of a reddish-brown), Derek, and Honoka.
  • Relationship Reboot: Sayaka convinces Shinta (eventually) for the two of them to start over relationship-wise after a love confusion involving Hajime.
  • Road Trip Arc: A type 2 which goes around Japan.
  • Sanity Slippage: Happens most often to Hajime, but the other characters may fall into this too.
  • Say It with Hearts: Certain characters uses hearts in their conversations.
  • Seinfeldian Conversation: Even nothing can be an interesting topic.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Everything Kai is, Kaoru isn't. They have little in common with one another, but they still manage to keep their relationship up.
  • Shout-Out: All over the place! The title of this page is actually a Shout-Out to the Ouendan 2 Let's Play.
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: Pit and Red can get overly affectionate at times.
  • Sick Episode: So far, a handful of the characters had their sick days whether it be an illness or an injury.
  • Slice of Life: Normally, any other work under these sorts of circumstances would be labeled a Crack Fic, but most of the situations the characters face are positively tame compared to canon.
  • Spot of Tea: Take a sip (possibly of tea) every time tea is served to someone.
  • Stupid Sexy Friend: A part of Hajime's feelings towards Sayaka at one point[2].
  • Symbol Swearing: Played straight and averted.
  • Take That: Most of the comments Trisil makes about the characters. That's right. A Take That about the RP's characters from one of the RP characters.
  • Talking to Himself: This can happen whenever two characters that're controlled by the same RP-er interact. Which is more often than you think, since there are only about 8 of us around.
  • Technicolor Eyes: Some of the Ouendan have rather unusual eye colors, for native Japanese. Reika and Hajime believe this is because of their high cheering/rhythmic spirit.
  • That Didn't Happen: In attempt to find out if they were truly in love or not, Sayaka and Hajime kissed. They did compromise to pretend it didn't happen, but Hajime developed feelings for Sayaka.
  • Theme Song Power Up: Invoked during the Halloween Episode, when Reika and Sayaka had a duel while the Leitmotif of their cosplayed characters was playing. Reika had Mars and Sayaka had Purity. It should be noted that Taichi was the one who started the theme-playing in the first place.
  • Those Two Guys: Three sets of them actually. Saitou and Suzuki. Morris and Derek. Sugita and Moriyama.
  • The Three Faces of Eve: Honoka as the child, Reika as the wife, and Sayaka as the seductress.
  • Toilet Humor: Happens few times, especially since it's implied that Nobody Poops is averted when the situation calls for it.
  • Token Minority: Spin, Morris, and Theo. Though, they're far from stereotypical.
  • Twerp Sweating: Kai had a few "discussions" with Momotaro back when the peach boy was dating Sayaka.
  • Undead Tax Exemption: Averted. Momotaro had to go through a formal adoption process when he moved to Yuuhi. Taichi also mentions that he had some problems at first explaining his rather long absence, especially with regards to marriage papers.
  • Unusual Eyebrows: The Ouendan and Agents are the EPITOME of this trope.
  • Vacation Episode: The road trip around Japan and a summer vacation to Florida.
  • Violation of Common Sense: We're dealing with the Ouendan here, along with many other series with supernatural things.
    • Subverted with Ryuuta whose risky actions doesn't always garner him praise [3]
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: There are several of these here and there.
  • Water Wakeup: Effective on the drunk!
  • Wham! Episode: The two times when someone was Spurned Into Suicide. The second time especially.
  • Wham! Line/Dropping the Bombshell: Similarly certain sudden reveals end up spurning the casual mood into worry filled scenes.
  • World of Badass: More like a high concentration of badass from multiple worlds, but you should be very careful with who you mess with here. Both Wonderlands are specific examples.
  • You Won't Like How I Taste: Said by Sayaka when Sunagi attempts to eat the cheergirl [dead link].
  1. Three times from the main series, once from Cave Story, and the other five are from Persona.
  2. and possibly Sayaka towards him around that time too
  3. Except with certain people.
