The Novel

• Beam Me Up, Scotty: For some reason, a lot of people think the title is The Portrait of Dorian Grey, perhaps because portrait is a more sophisticated word, and the British spelling of "Gray" is more genteel.
• Dyeing for Your Art: Sybil, metaphorically: she was a perfect actress because she didn't live in reality.
• Writing Against Type: A horror story, from Oscar Wilde.

The Adaptations

• Dawson Casting: 20 years old Dorian played by 30 years old Ben Barnes, Basil and Henry (around 30) played by 40 years old Ben Chaplin and 49 years old Colin Firth.
• Hey, It's That Guy!:
  • The 1945 features Angela Lansbury as Sybil Vane.
  • The 1970 film has Herbert Lom as Lord Henry.
  • The 1976 TV version features Jeremy Brett as Basil. And Peter Firth as Dorian.
  • The 1983 Gender Flipped TV movie has Anthony Perkins as "Henry Lord" (it's set in contemporary America) and Michael Ironside as Alan Campbell(!!).
  • The 2009 film stars Prince Caspian as Gray. And Matthew as Basil.
