The Secret World of Alex Mack/Fanfic Recs

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Proof that the remaining 10% is worth dying for.

These are recommendations made by Tropers for The Secret World of Alex Mack Fan Fics, all of which have been signed. After a few samples, you will be able to judge whether you might be interested in a certain 'fic, based on who recommended it.

Feel free to add a fanfic of your own to the list, but remember to use the template found below. Make sure you sign your recommendation! No-name recommendations may be deleted at other tropers' leisure. Do warn when a fanfic includes sexual situations.[1] Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business. Likewise, warn if it may head into non-canon territory.

Discussion of the recommendation is welcome on the discussion page. As such discussion is important, do remember to add the discussion page to the watchlist, if need be.

Recommendations Template

Title of the Fanfic by Author OR Fic Trope Page, by Author (Link)

  • Recommended by: Troper Name[2]
  • Synopsis: What's the story about? Give here a brief summary of the plot. It would be also useful to point out in what moment of the series the story takes place. If it's a Gen Fic but it has some romantic elements, note here the characters involved too.
  • Pairing(s): If it's a Shipping Fic, list here the pairings that feature in the fic (warn here if it's het, male slash or female slash). If it's a Gen Fic, remove this line. To tell the difference between the two, notice if the focus of the fic is on a romantic relationship or if it focuses on the other aspects of the story. In case of doubt, classify the story according to the genres it's been tagged: the Romance tag for Shipping, absence of that tag for Gen Fic.
  • Tags: If any are known. This would be things like WAFF, Lemon, Dark Fic, any Trigger Warnings, etc. This is also where you would put character names with Characterization Tags if doing so would be equally indicative. ("uber!Harry" for Harry Potter, for instance.)
  • Comments: If you want to say something more about why you're recommending the fic, but please, keep it brief. We don't want Conversation in the Main Page.

The League of Extraordinary Women by Diane Castle

  • Recommended by: Looney Toons
  • Status: Complete.
  • Synopsis: When demons begin attacking the Wizarding World, Hermione Granger receives a prophecy—she is the new Chosen One, and she must assemble a team of women from other universes in order to defeat the hellgoddess behind the invasion. The prophecy and the hellgoddess' own gate magic leads her to Alex Mack, Dr. Samantha Carter, Selina Kyle, Jaime Sommers, Buffy Summers and Willow Rosenberg.
  • Comments: Well-written crossover with a brisk pace and entertaining plot. The wide disparity in power levels between the members of Hermione's team is not the plot hole it initially appears to be; each member has their critical contribution to the task at hand, and unlike many such crossovers, they are not forced to act in isolation once they arrive in Wizarding Britain—they are in communication with their homeworlds and are able to draw upon their resources there to help achieve their victory. Has five sequels so far by Castle -- Cross Purposes, in which most of the members of Hermione's team seek out the local counterparts of the women and men they met during the events of League, The Secret Return of Alex Mack (recommended below), which follows Alex Mack as she makes changes in her life after being inspired and informed by the other women of the League and their teammates, The Secret Collocation of Alex Mack (also recommended below), and Cross Purposes 2 and Cross Purposes 3 which follow all the alternate Alexes after the events of The Secret Collocation.

The Secret Return of Alex Mack, by Diane Castle (Link)

  • Recommended by: Looney Toons
  • Status: Complete.
  • Synopsis: After an adventure where she was called to another universe as part of a team of extraordinary women, Alex Mack returns home determined to stop fighting crime in secret and instead become her Earth's first true superhero. To help her, she plans on finding and recruiting her world's versions of the women who inspired her: Hermione Granger, Dr. Samantha Carter, Selina Kyle, Jaime Sommers, Buffy Summers and Willow Rosenberg. With the aid of her family, she develops the persona of Terawatt, and enters the public stage with a bang. Not long afterward, she joins forces with a small, unconventional government agency created to deal with supers, and begins to build a team of talented people—both super and not—around herself. Along the way she becomes a global hero, and discovers a sinister conspiracy whose plans horrify even the hardened military types with whom she works...
  • Tags: Mega Crossover—it incorporates elements from over 40 movies, books and TV shows.
  • Comments: Very well-written, engaging, and satisfyingly long—235 chapters. Alex's growth from "kid with powers" to basically her world's version of Superman is convincingly and entertainingly portrayed, as is the ensemble cast that assembles itself around her, starting with Willow Rosenberg, Silicon Valley millionaire. Alex goes through highs and lows, victories and defeats and heartbreaking losses in this complex story that eventually grows to have a global backdrop—and global-scale opposition.
Inspired a massive multi-author shared-world project called The Teraverse, which, while it rarely focuses on Alex Mack herself, explores the world she lives in to an amazing degree.

The Secret Collocation of Alex Mack by Diane Castle

  • Recommended by: Looney Toons
  • Status: Complete.
  • Synopsis: A mysterious force is collecting Alexes Mack -- and anyone nearby -- from all the universes that contributed heroines to The League of Extraordinary Women, and has deposited them in the world of The Dresden Files. Who/what did it? And why?
  • Tags: Mega Crossover—in case it wasn't obvious.
  • Comments: A worthy sequel to both League and Secret Return which brings things full circle and ties its events into the very earliest material in the cycle. If you've read either or both of the other two fics, you don't need me to tell you any more. If you haven't -- don't start here. Start with League. Now.
