Time Paradox Ghostwriter

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.
The future of manga now in the present!

Teppei Sasaki is an aspiring mangaka who is trying to get his manga published in the Weekly Shonen Jump. The problem is how his editor, Kisuke, keeps on rejecting his one-shots. After getting a second chance, the editor states his storyboard to be lacking, thus crushing his dream of having his story in Shonen Jump. He walks onto the street in melancholy and frustration as rain starts to pour, leaving Teppei low and wet until he collapses in despair when he reaches his apartment.

After some introspection, he almost declares quitting but gets interrupted by a lightning bolt striking his microwave. It causes it to melt the robot on top, which was a gift, and the fridge it is on that even melds into the floor. The melted machine dings, and when he opens it, he finds an issue of Shonen Jump inside but from the year 2030. He reads the debut of the new series called White Knight by Itsuki Aino. It was a fantastic first chapter that left a distinct sense of awe; only a masterpiece can create that he had to go outside. He then looks for the issue again but can't find it.

Teppei takes it as some sort of fantasy then starts to draw a storyboard for the first chapter. After spending all night on making, he then arrives at Shueisha tired and ragged as he tries one more attempt to have his manga published through Kisuke. The editor rejects him again after a phone call, but Teppei doesn't give up. He breaks into the building as he rushes to the editing office. The mangaka tries to beg Kisuke to read his storyboard but ends up causing the editor to reject and state him as talentless while spilling the pages onto the floor. The editor in chief steps in as he hears the man out on why he would go to such extremes as Teppei responds with his struggles of becoming a professional mangaka.

The editor-in-chief will read his one-shot, especially since he liked Teppei's award winner from four years ago. After finishing reading it, he states that they can't run it in a special issue, but it will go straight into Shonen Jump to everyone's surprise. Everyone reads the chapter as they are all moved; even his editor looks in shock after reading it. Teppei faints onto the ground as his dream has finally come true. The debut of the one-shot and the reader survey place in first, which was quite the feat for a one-shot. After his success, he realizes that issue from the future wasn't a dream and that it will have repercussions, especially with the White Knight's original mangaka.

Different from the standard shonen battle series, the manga focuses on the tribulations of getting through Shueisha's publishing while also including the Sci-Fi element of time travel. Time Paradox Ghostwriter is a manga that premiered and simulreleased on May 17, 2020; it is also currently running in the Weekly Shonen Jump. The artist for the manga is Date Tsunehiro, and the writer is Ichima Kenji.

  • Alternate Timeline: The story of White Knight still continues in the future as it keeps on getting sent through the microwave. Despite the change of Teppei premiering the story, it continues in the future, suggesting that his actions have led to an alternate timeline. Because of this change, Aino will start her new series called Anima and to prevent her death somehow caused by this new series, like in the original timeline, by continuing working on White Knight.

  • In Memoriam: In-Universe, there is a Memoriam for Aino where she passed away on April 6th, 2031. The 19th chapter was the last for White Knight in the alternate timeline.
  • Lottery Ticket: The microwave gives a message for winning numbers to help Teppei with his debt due to refusing profits from White Knight.
  • Lightning Can Do Anything: The lighting that struck the microwave changed it into a time machine to deliver future issues of Shonen Jump. The robot can shot lightning out while shouting 'Future Thunder' which can display messages for Teppei from an unknown correspondent.
  • Our Time Machine Is Different: A melted microwave with a robot on top and a fridge on the bottom can receive issues of Shonen Jump from 2030.

  • Reality Ensues: Teppei after being forced down by Aino with the G-pen inching closer to his eye. He reveals the truth about where he got the story, but the girl doesn't believe him. The truth is so strange that it is rather unbelievable, which later causes her to think of it as a coincidence.
  • The Rival: Aino states after having a rather brash meeting with Teppei that they are rivals and that she will make a better manga than White Knight.
  • Rivals Team Up: Aino becomes a part of the manga team to gain more experience as a mangaka. Ironically, she is working on the manga that she would have been the mangaka for in the alternate timeline if it wasn't for Teppei doing White Knight first.
  • Reason Why You Suck Speech: Kisuke, the editor of Shonen Jump, gives one to Teppei out of frustration. He states how the mangaka has no talent as his storyboards might as well be blank paper but gets correct when questioned by the editor-in-chief. This statement is taken back after White Knight becomes published in the new issue of Shonen Jump.
