Titus/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Crosses the Line Twice:
  • Crowning Moment of Awesome: In "The Protector," when Titus and the gang find out that Amy was telling the truth about being molested as a child (because she wrote in her journal about the rose tattoo on her molester's penis), Titus almost goes to hit the guy with a bat, but doesn't. The guy apologizes for what he did, and it seems like the episode is going to end on a dramatic note, but Titus gives Amy the bat and lets her loose on the scumbag. Made more awesome when the principal goes to stop it, but decides not to report it.

Principal: "It'll take about five minutes, (beat) Or maybe thirty. (beat) Call me when I'm "done".

    • In "Tommy's Not Gay", Titus says that he's going to beat the two homophobic thugs who wailed on Tommy's dad because Tommy is being too much of a wussy to do it. However, right before Titus can do anything, Tommy screams at the top of his lungs, grabs a pool cue and jumps on top of a table. He then proceeds to crack one of the thug's heads with a pool cue (which snaps the cue in half), and holds the broken cue up to the other guy's neck and forces him to shout "I'm a homo!" Damn.
      • In the same episode ("Tommy's Not Gay"), Titus's end speech about how everyone's a racist and everyone should just be with their own kind, with Titus pointing in many directions until he ends up doing the "Heil Hitler" salute and ends the episode with, "Ya see how this can get out of hand?"
  • Crowning Moment of Funny: The rapid-fire cross-cut interrogation sequence after the Titus clan is detained by airport security.
    • Also anything involving Mama Titus (including her only episode in which she goes senile from Alzheimer's and wreaks havoc at Titus's old high school, and the short scene from the second Christmas episode "Houseboat" in which she gives Ken a puppy for Christmas, only to realize that she should have put holes in the box to let the puppy breathe)
        • This one takes prominence because while filming they had to stop the scene because the audience wouldn't stop laughing at it.

Ken: (after Christopher pimped out his truck and he got a DUI) "You built me a cop magnet! I might as well have been a black guy driving a large powdered doughnut!!"

  • Funny Aneurysm Moment:
    • The episodes that center on trouble in Titus's relationship with Erin ("The Break-Up," "The Perfect Thanksgiving," "Deprogramming Erin," to name a few) aren't so funny to watch anymore, considering that Titus's real-life wife (named Erin, but referred to as "Kate" for legal reasons on "Love Is Evol") nearly drove Titus to suicide and committed perjury during their divorce case by claiming that Titus was abusive to her and the children. [1]
    • Titus's line in "Shannon's Song" about he and Shannon going to heaven and Shannon getting the better heaven than Titus (with Titus's inner midget consoling him that he'll end up in Hell) is wince-worthy since Titus's sister Shannon committed suicide in real life. In addition, "Tommy's Crush" had Shannon get back together with her husband, despite the emotional abuse he inflicted on her and it was Played for Laughs that Christopher stood up for her and she ignored his advice. The real Shannon committed suicide because she had such a stressful on-again-off-again relationship with her boyfriend.
  1. She did this so she could side-step California's "no fault" divorce laws, which only allows one spouse to get everything the other spouse has if the first spouse claims that he or she was abused -- or had children that were abused -- during the marriage. While the courts did eventually find out she was lying, it still took years to finalize the divorce and cost Titus over $2 million.
