Tokiwa Kitareri!!

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

A 2014 manga written by Syun Satsuena, the author of Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple.

Yasaka Tokiwa is just a common average student. He wrote a novel, but nobody read it apparently. Nobody except Deus Ex Machina III, an incredibly-advanced android who took an interest in Tokiwa because of it. Since he appeared, Tokiwa is having weird dreams about the future, and weird things are beginning to happen in his school.

Serialized by on Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday.

Tropes used in Tokiwa Kitareri!! include:
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: Each character sees Rein in a different way, but the panels show her the way Tokiwa sees her: as a curvaceous young woman. Later, when she gains a real body, it's form still resemble Tokiwa's vision because it was made based on preferences registered on his computer.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Thanks to an cyber attack, Rein's memory is damaged, making for her hard to identify or remain certain things.
  • An Arm And A Leg: Tokiwa gets an arm and a leg cut by "Flashing Silhouette".
  • Bare Your Midriff: Chapter 34. Trying to cheer Tokiwa up, Rein wears a cheerleader uniform, that of course includes this trope.
  • Berserk Button: Machina becomes very irritated when Haruka begins to talk badly of Tokiwa or implies he's possibly dead
  • Brutal Honesty: In Chapter 2, Machina reveals his plan to take Tokiwa to school to Tokiwa despite the fact the reason he had to create a plan was because the boy didn't want to go to school in first place.
  • Casting a Shadow: "Flashing Silhouette"'s power involves the manipulation of shadows, that he sues as extra limbs to attack.
  • Childhood Friend Love Interest: Kanata is Meguru's childhood friend and she is the character closest to him.
  • Cyborg: After having two of his limb cut by an enemy, Tokiwa is reconstructed using parts of Machina.
  • Combat Tentacles: The Kyoukotsu have tentacles instead of hands, that he uses to throw his targets around.
  • Curb Stomp Battle: Rein vs Enigma is ridiculously one-sided thanks to her transformation powers.
  • Death Glare: Tokiwa gives one of these to a machine from Enigma after it attacks without showing any concern to civilians.
  • Driven to Suicide: A nameless young girl tries to jump from a roof; "Flashing Silhouette" saves her.
  • Eye Beams: One of Machina's many abilities invole simply firing beams from his eyes.
  • Failed a Spot Check: The heroes ignore the possible relationship between the girl who Kanata, Naruka and Tokiwa sees in their dreams with the website NUE even after Tokiwa notices the similarity.
  • Fanservice: Not unlike Satsuena's last work. The first chapter features a tentacle monster with melting powers that only melt a "surface" every time it attacks. His first victim is a female student, and of course the surface he dissolves before trying to melt her skin are her clothes.
  • Gainax Bounce: In the ad made by J.C.Staff to promote the manga, the very first second features Rein's boobs bouncing while she waves to Tokiwa and Machina from the roof of a house.
  • Genre Busting: This comic deliberately mixes ninjas with sorcery with sci-fi, with each main character(plus Tokiwa, who is a completely average human) representing each part of it: Kanata is a ninja, Yata is a sorcerer, and Machina is a robot. The kind of villain they will face next changes from chapter to chapter to not make one of them permanently useless.
  • Going Commando: The girl with elf-like ears that lives with Haruka don't wears panties under her mini dress.
  • Half the Man He Used To Be: Kanata apparently does this to an enemy, but it turns out his weapon is spiritual and will only cut the soul.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Thanks to an overload of information, only one of Rein's two personalities could keep existing. The younger one decided to sacrifice herself at first because it was the older one who Tokiwa knew since he was a child, but in the end the older one decided to disappear.
  • Humongous Mecha: K-01, a robot brought by Enigma to battle Rein when their guns prove to be useless against her.
  • I Know Your True Name: "Sennbeiser Suzuki" doesn't use his real name because he knows sorcerers can use that against him.
  • Imaginary Friend: At least that is what Tokiwa thought Rein was, specially since she first appeared because he felt lonely with his parents constantly away.
  • Insistent Terminology: Haruka Yata insists his powers are "sorcery", not magic.
  • Intangible Man:
    • Since it's a ghost, the Kyoukutsu can't be armed by any of Rein's attacks, but Kanata's sword can since it attacks the soul.
    • "Sennbeiser Suzuki" is able to walk through walls.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: A small panel in chapter 34 shows Rein's panties and she says "Look, a little service". However, the panties are exposed to the opposite side from where Tokiwa could look them, making it look Rein is speaking with the readers.
  • Male Gaze: At Chapter 36, one of the panels is a curved space view from the ground of a room, apparently only to show both Rein's breasts and glutes at the same time.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Rein's adult virtual avatar form barely wear any clothes, exposing her breasts, crotch, and butt. When she gains a physical boy her fanservice powers expand, since she can creates clothes out of nothing, or even chose to wear nothing.
  • Mysterious Waif: Aria, who appears out of nowhere to Haruka in first place, has a vague origin, weird magical powers, and doesn't even have a real name until Machina settles on "Aria" after the rest of the main cast makes several suggestions.
  • Naked on Arrival: Played with. When Rein emerges in the real world and becomes part of the main cast, she is completely naked. Then again, she didn't wear many clothes before in first place.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: The only reason "Flashing Silhouette" saves a girl from committing suicide is because he would prefer if everyone else went with her at the same time.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: The Kyoukutsu is a vengeful spirit born of a person's dead bones.
  • Panty Shot: Invoked. In chapter 34, Rein is trying to cheer Tokiwa up. To do that, she uses her powers to wear a ridiculously skimpy cheerleader uniform with miniskirt so small that she exposes her panties by moving. She deliberately tries to make him look.
  • Really Was Born Yesterday: Rein when she gains a real body, since she was never able to "feel" the real world before, and her body is made of biological matter. It turns into a straighter version of this trope when we discover there's two Reins, and the younger one was created when Rein gained a real body.
  • Scenery Censor:
    • The hair of both Meguru and Aria, and the cable of a portable shower is used to cover their nipples during a bath scene.
    • A piece of flying metal hides Rein's right nipple during a battle with Enigma, despite the fact we have already seen her nipples a few pages before.
  • Shout-Out: Aria poses like Venus on "The Birth of Venus" by Botticelli during a bath scene.
  • Sideboob: In the predecessor "Heroes of the Revelation" team, one of the members(who looks like Aria) wore straps over her breasts that let both sides well-exposed.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: The other heroes freak out when Kanata apparently kills a sorcerer that was trying to kill them.
  • Tranquil Fury: Machina doesn't talk in a different tone or contorts his face, but he fires lasers at Haruka when he teases something bad happening to Tokiwa.
  • Ugly Guy Hot Girlfriend: At least that's how people in the street react to Tokiwa and Rein.
  • Underboobs: Rein wears a cheerleader uniform whose top shows little cleavage but compensates with a lot under.
  • Vagueness Is Coming: Rein is an endless source of this from the beginning, appearing on the heroes' dreams and talking in vague terms about supposed events in the future and connections between the heroes. When Tokiwa thinks she will finally be clear about what the hell she is talking about because she had gained a real body, he and Machina discover she had become amnesiac and doesn't remember more what she was supposed to tell them about.
  • Vapor Wear: To say Rein wear any clothes is being generous: she generate clothes with her powers. She doesn't seem to bother to create even underwear, since her battle outfit is clearly showing her nipples under the texture.
  • Verbal Tic: Kanata uses "Gozaru" often at the end of his sentences.
  • Years Too Early: Kanata's father says he needs one more hundred years of training to be able to accept Suzuki's offer to help Suzuki's group.
