Topic on User talk:New XanderMartin98

This is to inform you that I have noticed and deleted most of your recent contributions to Rocko's Modern Life because they were copied word-for-word (or almost entirely so) from TV Tropes. This is not only against wiki policy, it is illegal due to the differences between our license and TV Tropes' license. The only exception is if you can definitively prove that everything you copied is your original work and yours alone.

Because of this, I now have a new hobby -- checking all your other contributions against TV Tropes and making sure none of them break the law.

So, this is an official warning per our ban guidelines: You won't be penalized for any copyright violations committed before now, but if you cut-and-paste anything else from TV Tropes you will be subject to an immediate punitive tempban. Again, if you can demonstrate that you are only reproducing your own work, this does not apply.

OkComputer1337 was my most recent (forced) alternate account on TV Tropes, and I played a huge part in editing nearly all of the trope entries that have been transferred from that site to this one (also, yes; I figured that things such as largely improving the original entry's grammar would basically eliminate copyright issues).

To be more specific about (a few of) the entries on your main Rocko's Modern Life page:

I created the TV Tropes version of the Widget Series one.

I created the TV Tropes version of the Sanity Slippage one (or, at least, the "potato chip" part of the Sanity Slippage one).

I created the TV Tropes version of the Hilariously Abusive Childhood one.

I created the TV Tropes version of the Hypocritical Humor one.

(Please make sure to actually check the History on the TV Tropes versions of these pages before doing these types of things.)

(DetestableDegenerate was another one of my accounts, as a parody of what TV Tropes itself seemed to view me as)

And how are we supposed to guess that a different handle is you? I in fact did sit there last night comparing not only the displayed page but as much of the history as I thought was necessary to determine that no "New XanderMartin98" was responsible for any of those edits.

It is your responsibility to let us know that you were the original author under a different handle, just as it is our responsibility to protect the wiki from the clueless and those who think neither copyright policy nor copyright law applies to them.

As for copied edits that weren't made by me, why not just edit them more in order to make them genuinely different from their TVT counterparts?

That needs to be done before they are added to All The Tropes, not after the fact. And it needs to be done to such an extent that it would be faster to write something different that makes the same point.

Also, yes; in general, you aren't exactly going to be seeing a lot of copied edits that weren't originally made by me here (especially in/on your Mother 3 and Courage The Cowardly Dog pages, whose TV Tropes counterparts were especially notable recent victims of TVT's utterly retarded "edit reverting" policy)

My deletions have been reversed, by the way.
