Motion to rename to "Artistic License Cinematography" failed

I'm about to rest for a bit, but there's not much detail to go into regardless - "Artistic License Cinematography" or a similar name would probably be more apropos in my opinion, both to match the rest of the similar tropes on the wiki and to dispense with the loaded first impression that makes "this isn't necessarily a bad thing" a bit tougher to absorb otherwise.

Agreed - we should be keeping in mind Tropes Are Not Bad and Tropes Are Not Good when naming any trope.

Agreed -- which is mildly annoying since I just added this trope to a couple pages in the last day or two. <grin>

Circling back on this - any plans to move forward with it?

While I'm not fond of the current name, I never liked the "Artistic License ___" naming. 1: It very strongly implies the trope is when the writer knew better and deliberately chose not to (less of a case here) . 2: It's extremely ineloquent.

"Fictional Formula for Fictional Filmmaking", "Fictional Fundamentals for Fictional Filmmaking, "Fictional Filmmaking Fundamentals for Fictional Filmmakers" (possibly with "of" instead of "for")?

Agiletek actually does - I'm rescinding my vote on that note because I wanna hear out the thought process for this proposed naming scheme, since I actually don't disagree with those first two points at all.

I'm not opposed to a rename myself, but I think a shorter rename is a better idea. I propose "Contentious Cinematography"

The essence of the trope is a use of film technique that is under contention for is validity and soundness and rather YMMV in nature. Besides, my proposed name has Added Alliterative Appeal.

I prefer "Fictional Filmaking" myself, as an abbreviated version of Agiletek proposals.

Likewise, and I wanna see what Agile thinks - I feel that "Fictional Filmmaking" as a name describes something completely different from this trope.

"Fictional film-making" could work. My personal suggestions would be "fictional filming schedule" or "film-makers dream shoot" to emphasise how idealised these portrayals are. It's a tough one to summarise, certainly "Artistic License Cinematography" nor "You Fail Film School Forever" gets the intended message across.

Well, as soon as we decided "Artistic License anything" wasn't on the table any more, we gave up on the "consistency" part of the name... but, hey, that's not what the Tropers want.

I do believe my motion has been defeated.

Anybody want to make a replacement motion? Or are people still happy to be suggesting alternate names without being ready to pick one yet?
