Needs more than a grammar pass

The main text claims the trope is about a power or talent to employ chaos. But most of the examples are of creatures and beings that embody chaos; there are few examples of an ability and what one can do with it.

Either the main text needs a drastic rewrite, or the examples need a drastic pruning, before this would be even close to launchable.

Okay, I will try my best to explain what the trope is trying to show. The main point of the trope is that it's about a superpower manipulating chaos. The simple yet most potent example that I can think of would be reality-warping, where they can just change it with a thought. Other examples depend on the character, which can lead to different examples but are related to chaos one way or another:

  • Nrvnqsr Chaos from the Visual Novel Tsukihime is a vampire whose body is made of chaos. He can manipulate it to create creatures made of it while also controlling their very being. Since he is made of chaos, he is harder to kill than normal vampires, where physical attacks and magic are ineffective.
  • The Trickster from the Sarah Jane Chronicles is an extra-dimensional entity that changes history to cause chaos and gain power from it. Once there is enough chaos, he can fully manifest into the world.
  • Martin Mystery's Chaos Beast is a manifestation of chaos that brings inanimate objects to life, turns humans into animals, manipulates the weather, and can shapeshift its form.

The reason cosmic entities are included and the like would be how they would have such power by default. If they are already so powerful or represent chaos, they would control it with ease. I am willing to hear your response when you can, and thank you for reading my post.

Entropy and Chaos Magic is mentioned in the description; I'm wondering if we couldn't just expand that page to include all "chaos" paranormal abilities in general instead of just being limited to "magic" in specific instead.

Kuma (talkcontribs)

Yes, that is there to make a comparison where it's like Entropy and Chaos Magic but its a superpower. I welcome any powers related to chaos as long as it's not magic.

Jlaw (talkcontribs)

@Looney Toons @Robkelk I made some changes to the definition. Unsure if this is better? If not, I suggest we change the name to Chaos Being.

Jlaw (talkcontribs)
GentlemensDame883 (talkcontribs)

Might need some work to go with the new name and definition? But otherwise I'm fine with that.

Kuma (talkcontribs)

I thank you for the changes @Jlaw, but the workshop is about superpowers of chaos rather than beings of chaos. I thought this mentioned this before, but certain cosmic beings would have this power by default. There are also examples where some aren't beings of chaos but have related powers. This does give me an idea; we could merge Chaos Control's description and examples with Chaos and Entropy Magic while having the title be a possible alternative for the page. It could have examples for both chaos superpowers and chaos magic. This workshop page could be changed to cosmic beings of chaos after the merge if this is a good suggestion?

Jlaw (talkcontribs)

Why don't we go for it and see if that works?

Jlaw (talkcontribs)

Why don't we go for it and see if that works?

Kuma (talkcontribs)

Alright, @Jlaw, I don't know how to start the process but I guess we have to contact the mods to see if we can make a possible redirect with Chaos and Entropy Magic. After that we can then concentrate on turning the page to cosmic beings of chaos.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

So, is anybody going to contact the mods about this?

Kuma (talkcontribs)

Well, I already changed the description and examples. The only problem now is that I need to change the title but I can't seem to do it right now. I don't know if it is the interface or something else but I can't change the title for the page.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Well, I already changed the description and examples.

Thus changing this into a different trope candidate.

The previous vote is null and void, in that it was based on the previous trope description and examples. This is a different trope.

I must say that this is an extreme way to withdraw a trope candidate from consideration and replace it with a different trope candidate.

Kuma (talkcontribs)

I didn't think that it was that extreme. People kept on saying the examples were more about characters than the superpower; so, I decided to change the description, remove some of the examples, and improve on the grammar of the page. Also, why did it take a year for a response?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Why did it take more than a year for you to do anything? Yes, it fell through the cracks, but it is not the administrators' responsibility to make sure people are working on a candidate -- it is that of the user who proposed it. This candidate was untouched for fourteen months.

Kuma (talkcontribs)

Actually it didn't take me more than a year to do anything. I actually did something over a year ago where I thought that this would continue the discussion and workshop to change this candidate. I started it on September 16, 2022 if you look at the history I made to the workshop page. I thought that when someone noticed it would continue the conversation from there but for some reason no one noticed changes I have made. So, I don't know what happened but I guess since my changes went unnoticed, no one said anything; so, I waited. I didn't want to cause a bother with other users and the admins or make changes without anyone's input; so, I didn't continue with this discussion thinking my last post made in November 2022 would do something. Though, I will admit, that I might've waited too long and that I will make sure to participate when I can. Though, I will say that it didn't take me more than a year to do anything since I tried to do something on September 2022.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Though, I will say that it didn't take me more than a year to do anything since I tried to do something on September 2022.

It is, as I type this, December 2023. September 2022 was fifteen months ago. Years are twelve months long. Fifteen is more than twelve. QED.

I would also encourage you to (re)read the rule on the Trope Workshop page. Comments made on the discussion page do not count as working on the candidate, only actual changes to the candidate. The last edit made to the candidate at the time it was flagged for deletion was September 2022. Regardless of how many months you claim are in a year, six months is the cut-off for "Abandoned" status, and this candidate should have either been booted or under active development last March.

I will also note that anyone can call for a launch vote, not just admins. Whenever you think a trope candidate is ready, you can ask the other tropers if they agree.

Kuma (talkcontribs)

Oh, thanks. I didn't know that I could make a launch vote on my own. I just felt like I was being ignored sometimes when I tried to improved something or make a comment on the discussions. I just thought it was better for admins or anyone else to say something compared to me that would have a high possibility to get ignored.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

I will also note that anyone can call for a launch vote, not just admins.

It is my personal opinion that admins should not be calling for launch votes on a regular basis. That has implications of the admins forcing our desires on the rest of the Tropers.

Not that we can't call for the occasional launch vote, just that we shouldn't be making a habit of it.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Agreed. My recent spate of launch votes is simply to kick the Workshop out of the stasis it seems to have fallen into over the past several months.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

It is now December 12. I see that Kuma removed the delete template from the page unilaterally, twice, but that doesn't invalidate the question.

@Looney Toons, you're the one who proposed the page deletion. Has there been sufficient work done to the page to keep it alive?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Reluctantly I would have to say so. "Reluctant" mainly because I think this candidate should have been completed or booted the best part of a year ago, and I don't want to see it lingering any longer. To that end, I'm going to start a launch vote so we can just get rid of the damned thing one way or another.
