Occasionally, Catwoman plays bass when Robin can't make it.

  • Aliens in Cardiff - A Welsh tribute band for Aliens of London.
• Alien Sky - Symphonic Ambient band from Texas formed from members of a high school astronomy club. They use melodic guitar and synthesizer combined with florid lyrics and vocals to tell stories about life in the The Future. Their singer is an amateur science fiction writer who writes all the lyrics. Currently, they're putting the finishing touches on the Casual Interstellar Travel saga about the human colonization of space consisting of the concept albums Faster-Than-Light Travel, Single Biome Planet, Death World, Precursors and ending it with The Federation. After finishing with this, the singer has planned out Used Future, a saga about the grimy underside of the Future and The Battlestar, a saga about the first interstellar war.

• All Your Base Are Belong to Us - Electronic band that only makes remixes of Engrish from video games. Their first two singles, "(I! Garland! Will) KNOCK YOU ALL DOWN!" and "You Spoony Bard", became YouTube sensations, with over 50 million views each. Their career came to an abrupt end after somebody set up them the bomb, killing two members and a light technician.
• Alone with the Psycho - American death-metal band. Consists of four guys and a girl, all dressed in black and disguised to the point that they all look the same.
• Alternative Character Interpretation: Dress up like movie villains (Vader/ Emperor Palpatine, Sauron, etc.) and do songs that show they're not really the bad guys.
• Altum Videtur - A neo-classical, Gregorian-inspired band that does covers of the contemporary hits by translating them into Latin.

• Exclusively Evil - A Thrash-Grindcore-Black Metal band with lyrics centered around Kick the Dog moments. (Sounds just like Anaal Nathrakh)
• Amnesiac Dissonance - Industrial noise with echoes of vaguely familiar tunes played with out of tune instruments and things pulled from the scrapyard. Their albums frequently end in multiple cacophonous medleys of conflicting musical styles with delirious nose yodeled mondegreens just before fading out with screams, wailing, and crying children.
• Amusing Injuries - A quasi-pop-punk/indie band with quite a bit of acoustic guitar in their sound and song lyrics that suggest a fixation with sadomasochism.

• Apocalypse Maiden - An all-girl goth/metal band that's an offshoot of Apocalyptic Log.

• Apathetic Citizens - Political punk band, similar sound to Anti-Flag, British based their first single was 48% (the number of people who voted in the 2005 general election)
• Applied Phlebotinum - Experimental nerd-comedy offshoot of Dirty Commies with a strong Frank Zappa influence. Too weird to describe.
• Archive Panic - One dude who makes experimental music like the Residents. Ever since 1967, he's released at least twenty albums a month, not to mention the number of bootlegs, singles, live albums, mixtapes and compilations...
• Ascended Glitch - A two-man epic glitchstep band.
• Ascended Meme - A Weird Al sytle band that chooses a meme and writes a song about it (songs that are already memes are covered). Hit singles include Our Enemies Hide In Metal Boxes and Nothin' like a Fistfulla Loitnin'. One song in an album is always Never Gonna Give You Up disguised as a different song.
• Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking - Emo+Death Metal+Children's rock. Each song starts out dark, gets darker, then becomes trivial.
• Artistic License Military - A controversial metalcore/crossover thrash band, where all of the band members are dressed in military uniform and army fatigues, and the lyrics are a bombastic satire of military traditions, hierarchy, and boot camp. They generally pal around with bands such as System Of A Down and Dead Kennedys.
  • Formerly entitled "You Fail Basic Training Forever", the managing label encouraged them (not too subtly) to change their name and suggested that they invoke a bit of "artistic license". The band evidently took their suggestions a bit too literally.
• Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence - The s-l-o-o-o-w-e-s-t and DARKEST prog metal you will ever hear. The band members play "live" concerts, in quotation marks: all the lights are turned off and the band members are behind the curtains.
• Atop a Mountain of Corpses - As Black as Black Metal gets, absurdly popular in Norway, banned everywhere else
• Attention Deficit Ooh Shiny - A recent group, unconstrained by genre; they'll play anything, for no longer than sixty seconds (if you're lucky). Early shows had light displays until they proved way too distracting... to the band.
• A-Team Firing - Another nerdy tribute band, this team for The A-Team (of course). The guitarist is Murdock, the keyboardist/lead vocalist is Face, the bassist is Hannibal, and the drummer is B. A. All four members have concealed weapons licenses. Most notable for their spot-on Filk parody of "The Ballad of Serenity" (now "My Dog Named Billy").
• Attract Mode - Electronica by a nerdy-but-sexy girl band.
• Audio Erotica - All-girl Electronica-Glam Rock Revival girl band by way of Goldfrapp, Daft Punk, and T-Rex.
• Autobots Rock Out - Transformers nerd rock (Rockformers?) that started out playing classic and 80s Rock about various bits of the expansive Transformers lore. Gained a loyal following with their first album Truck Not Monkey(With the Title Drop song poking fun at the fans outrage over Optimus Primal in Beast Wars), and close every live performance with a cover of You've Got The Touch.
• The Awful Truth - indie retro sound, political satire lyrics.
• Background Music - A professional lounge and ambient artist who makes music for films and advertisements.
• Badass - Highly aggressive thrash metal.
• Badass Bookworm - Rock, but full of references to classic literature.
• Badass Back - A rock group that plays all of their instruments facing backwards.
• Little Miss Badass - All-female punk-rock/alternative group, very young-looking and often show little emotion, but whose songs deal with mature issues in a mature way.
• Bad Future - A punk rock band featuring a time-traveling robot guitarist...or someone in a really, really good disguise. Very involved in social activism.

• Baroness - female-fronted European act that combines elements of symphonic metal, dark electronica, and steampunk. Their lead singer is a classically trained operatic contralto who claims to be descended from German nobility and dresses like a high-class Victorian dominatrix.

• The Beautiful Elite - combines rock, pop, electronic and techno. Widely loved as a band. All gorgeous, and none of them single.
• Beautiful Void - Metal with emo band with insane guitar riffs. Which are all beautiful.
• Become a Real Boy - Screamo of the worst kind. Known to many fans as BARB.Trope Names for a Band
• Beef Gate - Hardcore industrial noise rock.
• Behind the Black - Former lead singer of a black metal band ditches his costuming and heavy makeup to go solo with Lighter and Softer unplugged versions of his former hits.
• Belief Makes You Stupid - Snarky agnostics with country-style guitars, founded as a backlash against Christian rock.
• Better Than It Sounds - emo rock group of three; the piano player takes over what would normally be rhythm guitar and bass with boogie-woogie style two-handed piano playing. All three are fond of inserting self-deprecating humour into their lyrics and CD art. Sound like Yellowcard with piano...but surprisingly good.
• Better Than Canon - A band that does fancy versions of classical songs. First single is a "better" version of Pachebel's Canon in D.

• Betty and Veronica - A female two-man band that does Hard Rock covers of various songs, including a cover of The Bee Gees's "Stayin' Alive" that's widely considered as good, or even better than, the original.

• Non Sequitur Scene - Punk or metal with Mind Screw lyrics.
• Big Boo's Haunt - Long-time opening band. Mainly does movie soundtracks from horror/thriller movies.
• Big No - A band that was alternative rock back before there was alternative rock. Unless you have a casette player, expect to search long and hard for any of their songs.
• Blatant Lies - Grunge metal with a penchant for dark, depressing and nigh-on impenetrable lyrics.
• Blind Idiot Translation - Japanese band whose English lyrics have been run through Babelfish several times. They are frequently accused of being a Stealth Parody of Crystal Dragon Jesus, a charge that their lead singer vigorously denies.
• Bling of War - a pompous military orchestra using oversized brass instruments and heavy weaponry in their performances. Wear green costumes, Commissar Caps, and lots of regalia.

• The Blofeld Ploy - Metal, mostly of the screaming variety, but with occasional forays into death metal territory.
• Blood Knight-Scandinavian Thrashcore with a penchant for instigating excessively violent mosh pits.
• Blood Magic-Cast from Hit Points cover band. CFHP recently asked them to act in their latest music video, and open a few of their concerts.
• Bloody Warrior - Heavy Mithril band.
• Blond Guys Are Evil: Exactly What It Says on the Tin. Made up of four friends who got tired of all "hard" bands looking like rejects from a horror movie. They dress like accountants. They sound like death metal at its hardest.
• Blonde Republican Sex Kitten - Like Josie and the Pussy Cats, but they're a Stealth Parody of the Christian far right.
• Body Horror - KCMO based goregrind band known for their lyrical themes of parasites, surgery, mutation, body modification, testing on living subjects, and other biological themes. Their vocals are well pronounced and easy to understand, which is somewhat unpleasant due to the great descriptions of various body horrors. All of the members have biology degrees, and some study anatomy and parasitism. Their live performances have been banned in a few cities due to footage of parasites and surgery being projected behind them on a screen, and the various other gimmicks performed on stage (disassembling a dead pig over the course of the show and hosting a bbq afterwards, inviting audience members on to the stage for piercings, selling preserved parasites in jars after shows, etc.)

• Boisterous Bruiser - Hard rock. Well known for their enormous amounts of drums and energetic, shouted singing style. Currently on tour with Hot-Blooded.
• Bomb-Throwing Anarchists - Anarchopunk band with sarcastic lyrics about political issues, they also parody the popular culture image of anarchists as destructive maniacs.
• Bottomless Pits - Death Metal band who hold the record for the lowest tuning still audible by humans (Also they sing about caves a lot...)
• Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick - Country/R&B/Punk/Emo crossover band.
• Brain Bleach - Plays electronic versions of baroque chamber music, and picked this name to sell more MP-3's.
• Break the Cutie - "Cheery" emo (if that makes any sense). Fond of taking Death Cab for Cutie songs and screwing around with the lyrics to make them happier.
• Break the Haughty - Similar to Kill the Cutie, more punk than Break the Cutie. Best known for identifying the ironic hipster preps in the crowd and instructing the real fans to set them on fire with the lighters they're waving.
• Broken Ace - A deranged yet fascinating mix of hyperactive Noise Pop with brooding old-school Emo and Hard Core. Loves Uncommon Time.
• Broken Aesop - Industrial band whose samples largely come from political slogans and evangelists.
• Broken Base - A band whose fan's can't decide if they are Alternative Rock or Pub Rock.
• Brother Chuck - A project consisting entirely of Pete Bests and other former members of successful bands.
• Bunny Ears Lawyer - Mix of pop and rock- right now, the lead singer's in rehab, the electric guitar player's in prison for arson, the drummer's getting married, and the bass player's become an actor.
• Burn the Witch - Blackened-Death metal band who's songs mostly deal with witchcraft. Known to burn an effigy of a witch at every live show.
• Butt Monkey - Silly indie nerd-rock band that goes through many personal crises. Currently, the singer has terminal liver cancer, the guitarist is going through a costly divorce, the bassist's parents died, and the drummer is in an asylum.
• By the Power of Greyskull - Epic metal or folk metal rock band.
• Calvin Ball: Nobody's really sure what they are, because they completely change their style... and members... and name... at every single concert.

• Canada, Eh? - A bar cover band, the members are mainly from and live in the United States, but their gimmick is celebrating the US's northern neighbor. They mostly do covers of well-known songs by Canadian musical aritsts (Rush, Alanis Morrsette, Celine Dion, etc.), they dress like Mounties, lumberjacks, hockey players, fur trappers, moose, beavers, etc. and between sets they talk like Bob and Doug Mckenzie and drink Molson.
• Candle Jack - Gothic metal. Prominently displays a banner with its name at all of their shows. Also known for closing a show by saying "We're Candle Jack, sons of..." proceeding to quickly kill the lights to black out the stage.
• Canon Immigrant - Folk rock
• Cassandra Truth - Borderline emo, every song predicts doom and gloom of the worst variety. The lead singer is legendary for her waily vocals.
• Cast from Hit Points: Dark Fantasy Heavy Mithril Rock Opera. Wear armor with built-in fireworks, so it looks like they're actually doing magic, and hooked up with pipes that squirt fake blood when the firework is launched (the arena janitors and their families are given the best seats at the concert, and Do Not Attempt! is emblazoned across the screen when they shoot at each other). Have understudy band members so the leads can hand off their instruments and duel without messing up the song. Work very closely with fantasy moviemakers (including an anime company) to make their Music Videos (a fusion of live action actors for humans/ humanoids and animated monster opponents, set in an animated environment). Famous for a grand finale pitched battle, mimicking an RPG battle screen, and Pet the Dog moments despite their Darker and Edgier story-singing. They also incoroporate their sound tech and roadies into the show. Trying to get their Rock Opera made into a TV show (a la' Metalocalypse). The artists themselves are a Five-Man Band, with The Hero on lead, The Lancer on Bass, the White Magician Girl on keyboard, The Big Guy on drums, and The Smart Guy on "explosive instumentation". Every so often, a Sixth Ranger shows up. He's considered to be the best out of all of them, and his appearance is quite rare, so it's considered a treat by all involved (in the vids, he acts as a Deus Ex Machina, who only shows during their Darkest Hour).

• Cast Herd - Electro-pop group that sounds very similar to Devo.
• Catholic School Girls Rule- all-girl rock band, who perform in Catholic private school uniforms, complete with lollipops (the guitars, drums, etc. being painted in a pink-swirl lollipop motif), pleated skirts, knee-high socks and pigtails. Every single one of their songs is a three-minute (or whatever) Double Entendre. Every. Single. One.
• Chain-Reaction Destruction - Techno death rock band.
• Chainsaw Good - Gore metal of the most brutal and horrifying kind, with lyrics about gore, blood, corpses, necrophillia... I think that's enough.

  • They often used actual chainsaws to generate sound in their songs. This has been seen considerably less often following an incident in which they attempted to grind two running chainsaws together. You gotta admire the bass guitarist for still being able to play now that he's missing a few fingers, though.
• The Chessmaster - A one man band who changes his sound based on the next big thing.
• The Chew Toy - Emo of the "nobody loves me, everybody hates me" variety. (is there any other kind?)
  • A quirky electronic pop-rock group with extremely sad, introspective lyrics and occasionally hysterical vocals. Screwed over by every label they've been on.
• Chickification - A female pop group version of The Village People, consisting of a riveter, a Catholic schoolgirl, a warrior princess, a secret agent, and a softball player. Best known for their hit single, "Women's College". Interestingly, their biggest fanbase is among gay men.

• The Clingy MacGuffins - Scottish alt rock with surprising staying power.
  • Everytime it seems like the band has finally broken up, moved on to other projects, or taken an indefinite hiatus, there they are again on another tour, releasing another album...you can't get away from them.
• Clap Your Hands If You Believe- Anarchist rock band, everyone comes from a different country- the lead singer's English, the lead guitarist's American, the drummer's Australian and the bass player's Welsh.

• Clark Kenting- Bespectacled pop rock band that write songs exclusively about DC heroes.
• Clasp Your Hands If You Deceive-Pop/rock band that dress as mad scientists
• Cloning Blues - Indie jazz.
• Closer to Earth - Soft, ambient New Age music with a green message.
• Cloudcuckoolanders - A band whose music style is almost impossible to pin down to one style. Their lyrics tend to have a lot of very random and badly translated foreign words and phrases as well as outright gibberish. Heavily influenced by the style of Polysics.
• Cluster F-Bomb - Self Demonstrating Article Band. Plays heavy metal and barely goes two lines without swearing.
• The Cobbler's Children Have No Shoes - we're not really sure what they are, but you can be sure their lyrics are full of snappy irony and general pessimism towards the human race.
• Colony Drop - Arena Rock.
• Combat Sadomasochist - Technical death metal meets breakcore. Have a spooky, possibly insane female vocalist with a penchant for screaming like a maniac in concert.
• Commander Contrarian - An IDM band, they take John Williams score-ish music and break the hell out of it. Vocal talents are handled by Basshunter (under a pseudonym, of course.)
• Complete Monster - A Death Metal band that tries hard not to Cross The Line Twice or take Refuge in Audacity, instead keeping their lyrics as vicious and offensive as possible. Love It or Hate It.
• Conflict Ball - Party rock with a lot of guitar duels.
• Contemplate Our Navels - An otherwise-good ambient progressive band whose overly abstruse lyrics turn off all but the most philosophically-minded listeners.
  • Or a never-released album by King Crimson that was meant to be recorded in 1974.
• Convection, Schmonvection - Quite fringe but in reality very good. Reason for niche appeal is the fact their songs are nothing but rants about bad science in media put to music.
• Companion Cube - This Troper is setting up a punk-ska band making songs about the half-life 'verse with this name. If any Tropers play the trumpet, give me a call.
• Cool Old Guy- a band fronted by a retired eighty something grandfather, who goes by "Cool Old Guy" as a stage name and does almost everything that musicians half his age can do, but better! The other members of the band are his teenage grandchildren and their friends, who let him play a few soings with them just to be nice, but even they were blown away by his talents.
• Corrupt Church - A parody of Christian rock bands. The lead singer and drummer have serious issues with organized religion. The guitarist is religiously confused, the keyboardist is agnostic but his/her parents force him/her to be Catholic, and the bassist just doesn't care.
• Cosmic Horror - A doom metal band whose songs evoke a sense of despair, dread, and impending doom. The lyrics frequently contain references to H.P. Lovecraft and Cthulhu Mythos.
• Covert Pervert - An understated, pretty-sounding Indie Pop group with subtly groovy basslines and sly lyrics loaded with kinky subtext. Fronted by a pretty bespectacled girl of ambiguous age who, it is rumoured, once worked as a fetish model.
• Cranial Eruption - Math rock and noise rock. Many of their songs are derived from formulas rather than from actual melodies (e.g. Garfield Music)
• Crazy Prepared - Rap-rock group with an 80s punk influence that are infamous for actually playing "Freebird" when audience members shout it. All members are schizophrenic Boy Scouts, just so the name won't be meaningless.
• Creator Breakdown - An emo band that mostly sing songs about problems in their lives. Ended up becoming infamous for the Harsher in Hindsight after the lead singer committed suicide.
• Crisis Crossover - A supergroup formed by members of Green Lantern Ring, Rogues Gallery, Nineties Anti-Hero and Fastball Special.
• Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass - Funk rock, Skunk Anansie style, with lazy basslines and killer riffs.
• Crowning Moment of Awesome - A band which records new material rarely, but is widely agreed to have released some of the greatest and most awe inspiring music of all time. Have been known to play music in every genere, but especially partial to soaring rock anthems and half hour classical jawdroppers.

• Cruel Mercy - A talented Christian rock band whose songs are primarily about guilt and their unworthiness.
• Cryptic Background Reference - Like Beatnik poetry with increasingly-pounding basslines, although the actual lyrics are closer to They Might Be Giants.
• Crystal Dragon Jesus - Japanese rock band with lyrics entirely in Gratuitous English. Mangled gratuitous English.
  • Who also sound like a fusion of Shonen Knife and Godflesh, but with keyboards and really trippy, symbolism-loaded live performances.
• Crystal Spires and Togas - A spin-off band of Raygun Gothic, formed by the keyboardist because he wished to pursue other musical directions. Accordingly, they have a less technical and not as heavy style. They tell a side-story to Raygun Gothic, involving a Red Shirt from the third album who got better and became the leader of an alien civilization. Both have played on stage together, performing their split four-disc album Crisis Crossover.
• Cute Bruiser - The band that the lead singer of Boisterous Bruiser's little sister made. Plays mostly peppy metal.
• CuteShotaroBoy - Teen pop band with extremely smarmy, hilarious lyrics and a very attractive (and very underage) frontman.
• Cuteness Proximity - Some pop band whose main selling point is that their lead singer is really hot. Or an eight-year old girl. Or * shudders* both.
• Cyber Cyclops - Techno-iest techno group in the history of techno.
• Dead All Along - annoyingly catchy melodic post-hardcore/screamo band in the vein of From First to Last or Alexisonfire. Every member has a droopy fringe and the word "LOVE" tattooed on his knuckles.

• Disobey This Message - Truly edgy Punk Rock when it was first formed, but due to Executive Meddling after hitting the big time, shifted to much less controversial Pop rock, before a bitter break up. After the band broke up, each of the founding members formed their own band, none of which have enjoyed the same success as Disobey This Message.

• Driver of a Black Cab- A Gothic/Doom Metal band that is known to be very politicaly active, often times stoping between songs to rant about today's society.

• Easy Evangelism - An incredibly narcissistic Christian rock band that is convinced that their music is so good that it makes people want to convert on the spot. In reality, their music makes the High School Musical soundtrack sound like an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.
• E=MC Hammer - Math rock/rap hybrid.

• Eldritch Abomination - progressive rock band that makes use of creepy ambience interspersed with metal-tinged heaviness.

• Elegant Gothic Lolita - glam-goth band with an androgynous frontman and vocalist, Frankie Hot-Dog, that has marked liking for corsets. Their songs either involve irrelevant lyrics with sexual innuendo or deal with sexual matters explicitly. Their motto is "Don't dream it, be it".

• Elves vs. Dwarves - Progressive rock. Their greatest rock opera, Our Elves Are Better (1976), originally took up four LPs and ran seven full minutes before the first words were sung. The lead singer famously gives all interviews in a West Midlands English accent despite having been born and raised in a suburb of Kansas City.
• Emo Teen - An emo/pop-punk band that took their penchant for self-reference way too far.
• Emotion Eater - Variable. Albums are usually named (emotion) for (mealtime), and marked "Serve with..." and best before..." labels, like it was food. Badass for Breakfast is all War Is Glorious (serve with epic saga), Lust for Lunch is all Intercourse with You lyrics set to porn jazz (Serve with adult literature), and Despair for Dinner (serve with depressing philosophy text) is all gloom-and-doom Emo/ death metal. Insists their concerts are advertised as "buffets".

• Epileptic Trees - experimental band with cryptic lyrics, trippy aesthetics, and mind-boggling light shows. No two fans can agree on the exact meaning of a song.
• Exalted Torturer: A death metal/gorn band with lyrics centered around actual atrocities.
• Exact Time to Failure- American rock band who spend their spare time trying to predict the time when the world will end, and then write songs about their attempts.
• Extended Gameplay - Band formed by a bunch of nerds for a Battle of the Bands, which they somehow won. Later split off into Playable Epilogue and New Game+ after an argument over whether Final Fantasy XII or World of Warcraft was better.

• Erection Rejection - a band that plays spoofs of love songs.
• Everything's Better with Penguins - Enthusiastic, goofy punk-pop with an almost childlike, optimistic tone. The world is a giant playground, life is pretty good, and penguins make everything awesome, so why worry?
• Eviler Than Thou - A death metal band famous for dressing up as famous movie villains. The lead singer is Darth Vader, voice and everything, with Sauron on bass, Darth Maul on guitar, and Agent Smith on drums. The Joker plays keyboard, but it sounds like Bloody Stupid Johnson's synthesizer from Dontgonearthe Castle—all creaks, clanking chains, and screams.
• Evil Weapon - Heavy metal.
• Exactly What It Says on the Tin - Also called Aptly Named by their fans, every one of their songs is about a random everyday object, and all their albums are themed around where the objects would be found. Closet is their biggest record to date, with hits such as "Shirt" "Tie" and "Smelly Shoe".
• Eye Scream: Death metal band with an impaled eye as its emblem.
• Face Full of Alien Wingwong - Techno/Punk group with laser light shows lasting almost the entire concert.

• The Fallen Creators - A band who was once named The Creators and had lots of fans. But then something bad happened and instantly all the fans started hating the band, leading to the name change.
• Fastball Special: Heavy metal. They usually conclude their shows with the lead singer picking up the drummer and throwing him at his own kit.
• Fan Service - Can you say "cabaret"?
• Faux Death - A parody band. Their favorite target is The Chew Toy's brand of emo.
• Feng Schwing - a band that actually tries to play serious songs to get people in the mood. Concerts either end in a massive sausagefest as all the women in the hall leave, offended, or in a gigantic orgy.
• Fetish Fuel - An eccentric punk band that only writes and plays songs about various sexual fetishes to the tunes of childhood songs such as "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and "Row, Row, Row Your Boat."
• Fille Fatale - A Japanese Gothloli Idol Singer band. Would be insanely popular for 'bout 3 months, and then is never heard from again.
• Fission Mailed - An experimental band, most of their songs switch style so often it seems like several songs cut up and randomly blended together. Combined with their lyrics the whole thing amounts to a Mind Screw.

• 555 - Faux-santanist pop.
• Five-Man Band - Another Meta.
  • A band of five, who play rock that no one notices.
• Five-Bad Band - A punk-metal band that is notorious for trashing hotel rooms and being rude to fans, in addition to writing songs all about committing crimes and other such things.
• Five-Token Band - Exactly the same as the Five-Man Band, except for the fact that they are automatically considered cooler because almost all the members somehow fall into a "minority" group.
• Flushing Toilet, Screaming Shower - Noise rock with the occasional shakuhachi solo.
• The Flaming Cobra Sugar Cellar - Rock band; considered good by most people but despised by those who knew them when they were "indie" now that they've supposedly "sold out." Their style and trademark surreal lyrics have, of course, gone unchanged.
• Franchise Zombie - A once successful hard rock band who has been forced to churn out records due to Executive Meddling. Most of their lyrics now deal with thinly veiled stabs at their oppressors.
• Freudian Slip - Indie rock band that experiments with different styles. However, every song ends up being about sex.
• Frills of Justice - A very girly superhero-themed girl pop group that only write songs about how the only way you can succeed in life is by wearing a Pimped-Out Dress.
• Furries Are Easier to Draw - Gimmick band who perform in fursuits, were a media darling for a few weeks before falling apart due to 'creative differences'.
• Gemstone Assault - Death metal band with songs filled to the brim with fantasy lyrics.
• Geeky Turn On: Rock band incorporating very nerdy interests into love songs.
• Glamour Failure - Thinking mostly female/transvestite gutterpunk band.
• Glass Cannon - Their songs glorify kitschy sculptures. Notable for only using hand-blown instruments with "cannon art," meaning that they used nothing but a cannon-shaped xylophone, cannon-emblazoned glasses and bottles filled with varying amounts of liquid, and a glass gong with an actual cannonball in the center for 5 years before getting more instruments. Their biggest hit is a cover of the 1812 overture, plus lyrics, which usually either crushes or pierces the guitarist's right foot in the end.
• Gorn - Just your average death metal/grindcore band with extremely graphic and violent lyrics.
• G-Rated Sex - Indie pop garage rock with sexual lyrics set to a bubble gum tune.

• Hollywood Homely - A Spice Girls/Pussycat Dolls-like girl group that makes its gorgeous female members wear Tina-Fey-style glasses and schoolgirl uniforms (with rather short skirts) to incite the fanboys' lust.

• Horny Vikings: A wannabe heavy metal band full of nerdy high schoolers, except for the bassist, who is a beefy football player. Because of his size, the other members force him to dress up as Thor at their gigs (which definitely aren't PTA meetings).
• Hot-Blooded: EXTREME Power metal a la Dragonforce
• Ho Yay: Bubblegum pop boy band. Instead of love songs, their music generally focuses on extolling close male friendship. First album cover features the band members in their boxers, having a pillow fight.
• Humongous Mecha: J-Pop/Metal cross. Their only known video before being annihilated by copyright lawyers replaced the male backup singer with Skull One and the other band members with an Aevestalis on guitar and the Gurren Lagann on drums. The female lead remained unchanged.
• Hurting Hero - Punk Rock band with lyrics pertaining to the theme of bold defiance, despite overwhelming odds and personal anguish.
• I Call It "Vera" - Slightly dark (but not enough so to be emo) indie band whose songs, while catchy, have the unfortunate tendency to all sound alike.

• Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy - A geeky indie band that is legendary for their inexplicably persistent mediocrity; The singer is perpetually out of key, the guitarist botches chord progressions on a regular basis, and the drummer is constantly missing beats.
• Incendiary Exponent - Started by some of the old members of Hot-Blooded, who decided that they wanted their shows to be flashier.
• Incorruptible Pure Pureness - Parodies Disney-sponsored bands, keeping the same cheery pop feel. All their songs are full of double entendres and dirty jokes.
• Informal Eulogy - A pop "punk" band who's had a hit or two with teen girls, they think they're ironic and relevant, but in reality they just suck. But as you know, YMMV.
• Interspecies Romance - After the first three albums came out, the lead of Half Human Hybrids became so popular that she left to form her own band, with lyrics involving Mars Needs Women and Beast and Beauty themes. Some suspect very strong Author Appeal here.
• Through the Eyes of Madness - Dronecore/ambient electronic, with a lot of references to going mad in the lyrics.
• The Invisible Band - A darker progressive rock band, with self-referential lyrics.
• I Read That As - Rock and roll cover band with lyrics based on mondegreens.
• Iron Woobie - Indie rock Five-Man Band who run from power ballads to thrash metal stylings, famed for albums that go from one end of the sliding scales to the other. The name was given to them by the doctor who ran the group session they met in. Every album is dedicated to "Dr. Rob" and one other bright spot in a band member's life. In general, the band's sadder songs are honest reflections of some of the bullshit they've been through—and their Crowning Music of Awesome come in celebration of even the smallest victories. Known for their honesty and candor in interviews. Started "the tour that shouldn't work" with Attract Mode, My Hero Zero, Fan of Underdog, Incorruptible Pure Pureness and Manic Pixie Dream Girl. Despite early technical issues, it worked.
• It's All My Fault - The most emo of all emo bands. All of their songs are about the same thing: A desire to die. Every single member of the band is convinced that their lives are meaningless and worthless, and they blame everything on themselves. No one is allowed to bring any sharp object to their concerts, and ambulances are kept ready at all times in case any of them attempt to kill themselves on stage. There have been several incidents in the past, one of notice was when the lead singer attempted to drown himself in his own tears. He did not die, but, suffice to say, it did not end well.
• I Take Offence to That Last One: Punk. Last song in an album chooses Acceptable Targets to rip on.
• It Was His Sled: Folk group with a focus on story songs. Whether or not you've heard their songs before, you know how they're going to end.
• It's Popular, Now It Sucks - An underground music band that tears apart popular songs by mocking them viciously in their lyrics. When they themselves become popular, they start mocking themselves.
• Izchaks Wrath - Punk, with the trademark logo "+)m" emblazoned on their instruments. Nobody has heard of them or understand their lyrics except you and your nerd friends. Songs include "Do You Want Your Possessions Identified?" and "I Believe It Not!"
• Jerkass Sue - An all-girl band with punk overtones, but whose music has been watered down for commercial radio play. Think Avril Lavigne.
• Jesus Saves - Christian rock group, best known for their song "Easy Evangelism".
• The Juggernaut - American speedcore band. You can't hear the lyrics because of the metal growl and severely overkicked drum machine, but they all revolve around a giant living planet that the lead singer thinks actually exists.
• Jumping the Shark - '60s-influenced rock whose first single was titled "I Fell in Love With You From Across the Aquarium Hall".

• Jungle Princess - Vaguely jazzy electronica that makes extensive use of sampled sounds, including human voices singing nonsense words in close harmony.

• Kid From the Future - Tween bubblegum-pop band that tries to be nerdy.
• Kill Sat - Hardcore.
• Kill the Cutie - Riot Grrl, deeply critical of the value society puts in beauty.
• Kill It with Fire - American rock/metal band. Their first album, the self-titled Kill It with Fire (2000) went to number 1 in five countries and had been translated into seven languages. Their next album and titular single, Where I Was Born and Razed (2003) went to number 1 in ten countries. After that came third album Playing with Fire (2004), another chart-topper. Their next album, Our Dragons Are Different (2006) also reached number 1, but at a slower rate. Their darkest album yet, Out of the Inferno (2008) has become both a hit and a major point of disagreement amongst the band. However, their latest, Apocalypse How (2009), is sure to hit the top of the charts.
• King in the Mountain - Hard Celtic rock, sort of like Boiled In Lead.
• Kirk's Rock - Some sort of nerd band.
• Kiss of the Vampire - a semi-goth/punk girl band. The band has an inexplicable fixation on vampires, and every music video and concert features at least one member of the band being bitten on the neck by another member. Outspoken in their hatred of Twilight.
• Klingon Promotion - Completely nerdcore, shows up to every performance in Klingon garb and makeup. Broke up after the bassist took the band's name to heart...
• Even Heroes Have Heroes - Heavy Mithril Affectionate Parody band.
• Lady of War - An all-girl power metal band, with the lead singer being a striking ex-opera soprano. Thematic similarities in their lyrics to Manowar have been noted.
• Laser-Guided Amnesia - Sings about breaking up with girlfriends and forgetting about them. Alternatively, could be an album name.
• Last-Disc Magic - neo-psychedelic trance.
• Lawyer-Friendly Cameo - Comedy/parody. They cram their songs as full of references as they can. The highlight of a LFC concert is seeing which character the lead singer dresses as. Indiana Jones Montana Smith seems to be his favorite.
• The Last DJ - Stage name of a DJ with an overblown ego who refuses to bow to demands. Currently busking.
• Lazy Artist - Calypso band with mostly blank album covers.
• Leave the Camera Running - Soft indie folk, always name dropped by indier-than-thou hipsters.
• Lethal Joke Character- Neo-glam. All band members perform in "creepy clown" makeup.
• Legal Jailbait - Comedy band that parodies current teen-pop artists songs. They have a love for spoofing the Sexy Schoolgirl costume whenver given even half a chance. Past gags have included an extremely conservative uniform with an ankle-concealing skirt, the ugliest school uniform they could find in a nationwide contest, deliberately eye-scarring bad and tacky colors, and a juvenile hall uniform, among others. The closest they've ever gotten to playing it straight is wearing an ill-fitting child sized uniform so tight that they can hardly breath in, much less move.

• Life Imitates Art - Indie folk rock band worshipped by audiophiles and Pitchfork Magazine.
• Little Miss Snarker - hip-hop duo composed of two cute but wise beyond their years teenage girls, known for their incisively humorous takes on contemporary popular culture and social issues.
• Loads and Loads of Characters - Eccentric Long Runner electro-pop band (somewhere between They Might Be Giants and Devo) which has gone through over NINE THOUSAND lineup changes, including returning to the original lineup twice. The third drummer went on to form Cast Herd.
• Lolicon - Really weird songs that seem to fit no genre, with nude pre-teens making up the entire group.
• Looks Like Cesare - Deathrock borrowing a musical page from Alien Sex Fiend, with their stage image relying on the campiness of early horror films.

• Lovecraft Lite - A power metal band formed by the bassist and the drummer of Cosmic Horror after they quit over creative disagreements with the rest of the band.

• Marshmallow Hell - Girl group that uses Bubblegum pop-like melodies with varying levels of Lyrical Dissonance. The lead singer is rather well-endowed, the others might be just faking it. Recently signed on the Bassist's younger brother as a drummer, and if the promotional photoshoots and their latest album cover are any indication, he must be one of the luckiest men on the planet.
• Mary Sue - An all female pop group/spy team/superhero squad that fights evil with the Power of Love and is irresistible to the opposite sex (though their tragic abuse at the hands of their adopted father has left them scarred for life). They are the perfect musicians whose voices rival Freddie Mercury, and whose guitar riffs have been known to cure cancer. Universally loathed by the music community at large.
• Maximum Fun Chamber - 900+ BPM speedcore/happy hardcore fusion. Became the center of great controversy when it was revealed that several synth fills in their songs, when converted into Morse code, translated into "LSD".
• Mega Corp - Anarcho-punk. They always release their albums on the Internet and never sign with major labels, partly because that would be cooperating with the reviled megacorps, partly because nobody would like to sign with them anyway.

  • Memetic Sex God - Another nerd band, but this time all their songs are Intercourse with You and they think they're really sexy, when in reality they could frighten a horse.
  • Memetic Molester - humorous porngrind, with a lyrical focus on pop culture and internet in-jokes.
• Metal Scream - Canadian melodeath/Metalcore band fronted by twin vocalists Alissa and Bobbie McKenzie, and possibly the only band in the world to feature male and female growling vocals. Most famous for their single "Scare Chord", they are slated to appear alongside The Blofeld Ploy and Little Miss Badass at the Donnington Download Festival 2011 to promote their new album Rage.
• Mildly Military - A Boy Band specializing in remixing old war songs into lyric and/or dance music. Their stage performances always feature ceremonial uniforms that change every time.
• Milkman Conspiracy - True to their name, they're one of them bands that writes nothing but songs about video games and nerdy things, and most of their repetoir is available for free download. Fans recommend "Girlfriend For A Day" (their loving tribute to Samus Aran) and "H Is For Pervert" (All you ever wanted to know about Hentai but were afraid to ask).
• Mighty Whitey - A NS Black Metal Band
• Mind Screw - Noisy techno band, describes themselves as a cross between Aphex Twin and Merzbow
• Golden Saucer - another sci-fi prog band. Don't like being called Golden Shower.
• Misfit Lab Rat - A punk group composed of brilliant scientists.
• Mister Seahorse - Pop folk band run by a former marine biologist.
• Mnogo Nukes - A patriotic folk band from the former Soviet Union, whose lyrics mainly celebrate the might of the Glorious Mother Russia.
  • Alternatively, a punk band from the former Soviet Union whose lyrics criticize one-sided approaches to The Cold War and Commie Nazis - style portrayals of the Soviet Union in popular culture.
• Moe Couplet: A 2-girls duet who sings healing-type J-pop, they are in fact an example of Moe Couplet.
• Mondegreen - Progressive folk, with near-incomprehensible lyrics.
• Money Shot - A female rap trio challenging the boys' club of Hip-Hop. Nicki Minaj frequently collaborates with them in the near future.
• Monster Clown - A wannabe-metal high school garage band whose lead singer is terribly afraid of clowns. They never really get close to metal, just pop-punk.
• Monster of the Week - A pop-punk with a really strong sound, especially where the bass guitar is concerned, but all of their songs have lyrics about silly subjects like what the members would like to do if aliens conquered the world, they won the lottery, inherited a zoo, etc. Formed by Monster Clown's guitarist and drummer after that band broke up.
• Moral Event Horizon - Death/doom band out of Nova Scotia originally known as Rape The Dog. Although popularly rumored to have changed their name so Walmart would carry their first album, Names to Run Away From Really Fast, they actually changed it after discovering a Denver grunge band was already using the name.
• Moral Guardians - Sample-heavy, hyper-political electronica group. Known for their bizarre live performances in which they play in the nude, surrounded by huge masked guards carrying black censor bars.
• The Moral Substitute - A parody christian rock band of course.
• Mordor - Straight up brutal death metal with technical influences.
• More Dakka - Speed metal! All percussion. All the time. Fifteen-hour drum solo! A Techno Power Metal Five-Bad Band famous for the invasive plastic surgery each member has undergone. They are The Rival to There Is No Kill Like Overkill and have an Escalating War over whose concerts can be more spectacular (read: explosive).
• Motor Mouth - A small Rap Rock group known for the eponymous rapper, who writes more lyrics in the first verse than most power ballads. They don't bother with prompters because gibberish is more fun while performing live and nobody needs to call them out if they don't know the words either.
• Movie Twist List - Nerdcore band that spoofs commonly used plot twists. Also known for spoilering movies within days of their release (which got them almost lynched after they released their number one hit Luke, I Am Your Father(A song about a farm boy who fights The Empire, but then finds out that... well, you get the idea.))
• MST3K Mantra - A Weird-Al-style parody band whose lyrics always make fun of various parts of American pop culture.
• Murder the Hypotenuse - Strongly Emo-tinged hardcore, in the style of Alesana and Chiodos, with From First to Last -esque angsting and vocal style.
• Murderers Are Rapists - Straight-up deathcore a'la As Blood Runs Black or Suicide Silence. Their longest song is about eight minutes long and has no less than fifteen breakdowns.
• Muse Abuse - So Bad It's Horrible covers of Muse songs.
• Mushroom Samba- Latin dance band with somewhat psychedelic touch.
• My Car Hates Me - Kooky indie/electronica band.
• My Hero Zero - A playful, snarky Emo band with a self-depricating sense of humor, with witty, joking lyrics about depression, isolation, and lonliness. Their debut album, "Big Toothy Frown", has been described by the lead singer as "the best-selling beer coaster in America."
  • Fan of Underdog - Started out as a My Hero Zero cover band, but has since found their own style, more pop than emo, by with similar fondness for Lyrical Dissonance. The two bands are both great fans of the other's work, and often open for each other... During the "Wannabe" tour, each referring to themselves as the other's tribute band and playing only covers of the other band's songs and songs In the Style Of the other band. Fans refer to this tour as "I don't know what the hell happened, but it was kinda fun."
• Name of Cain - A doom metal band whose lyrics prominently feature the topic of sin, divine punishment, and fratricide.
• Name That Tune - An instrumental-only group whose concerts repertoire consists of well-known songs played without the lyrics. The audience are encouraged to sing along once they work out where the chorus is.
• Nameless Narrative - Sad punk rockers strongly influenced by drone metal.
• Naughty Tentacles - nerdcore band with a Genki Girl frontwoman, songs full of Mars Needs Women-esque lyrics, and a notoriously Squick-filled live performance banned almost everywhere.
• Necro Non Sequitur - Blackened death metal. Well known for their Word Salad Lyrics.
• Neoclassical Punk Zydeco Rockabilly - Exactly What It Says on the Tin.
• New Game+ - The "Final Fantasy" half of Extended Gameplay. Hate both Nightmare Fuel and later Nightmare Fuel, but not early Nightmare Fuel, despite the fact that all are freaky and disturbing.
• Nightmare Fetishist - Pornogrind supergroup containing former members of Nightmare Fuel and Fetish Fuel.
• Nightmare Fuel - Some kind of metal-punk hybrid. Who may choose to always play the chord progressions of the 1989 PBS ident, before playing a power chord, where the last of the ident's chords would be, that leads into or begins their song.
  • Nightmare Fuel - The remaining members of Nightmare Fuel after dumping their dead-weight lead singer. Their first album was recorded before they found a new one, so it's mostly instrumentals, and the few songs with lyrics, are either sung by a different band member each time or, in one case, shuttles between members. One of those instrumentals is their creepy metal cover of the 1989 PBS ident alone. Their second album was all covers; by that time, they'd picked up a lead singer with a really weird falsetto. Became Nightmar Fuel when the remaining members begin experimenting with Throbbing-Gristle-esque industrial and noise. With another cover of the 1989 PBS ident to boot. Do not listen to after the sun is down if you enjoy being able to sleep.
• Night of the Living Mooks - Hardcore goth, with plenty of Narm-filled lyrics. They occasionally "sample" the falsetto from the band above.
• Nineties Anti-Hero: 90's Grunge band. They are very stereotypical, with as much angst as you can get, and all the members are jerks. They broke up in 1998 and have remained in obscurity until the bassist and rhythm guitarist joined Crisis Crossover.
• Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot - a punk band whose lyrics would contain a lot of humor in the form of semi-obscure geek subculture references.
  • Alternatively, an experimental band that fuses (sometimes contradictary) genres seemingly at random, and yet is still increadibly awesome in spite of (or maybe because of) this fact. Ninja, Pirate, Zombie, and Robot costumes are optional.
• Nipple-and-Dimed - All-female rock band who perform topless. On tour with Thong of Shielding.
• Nobody Poops - A mix of techno and orchestral, going for epic sci-fi so hard they fall into What Do You Mean It's Not Awesome? - but the lyrics are about humanity's failures of imagination.
• No Export for You - An all-male trio who had a J-Pop/Electronica style and ended up being a huge hit in Japan. However, their label decided not to release their music anywhere else, deciding the music would not do well in other countries. The band tried to protest to get their music in other regions, but were quickly shunted off their label and replaced by a new band who plays off-key covers of their songs. The company decided to take the band's idea and sell the music in other countries, however the new band did not perform quite as well.
• No Such Thing as Space Jesus - Synthpop/techno fusion. The frontman used to head a christian rock band.
• Noodle Incident - An obscure indie rock band with a heavy progressive influence.
• Not Wearing Tights - Comedy duo or trio who sing about pop culture.
• The Nth Doctor - A comedic Doctor Who tribute band. Each member dresses as the Doctor and/or Companion of their choice. The leader singer is the Tenth Doctor, the guitarist is the Ninth Doctor, the keyboardist is Martha, the bassist is Captain Jack, and the drummer is Sarah Jane; sometimes they like to switch it up, though.
• Nubile Savage - Bongos, vocals, and occasionally some horns. They are all sexy, especially the singer.
• Obstructive Bureaucrat - Indie band from Indiana. They met while interning at the BMV in Indianapolis one summer; when they found themselves all working at West Lafayette City Hall upon returning to Purdue that fall, they decided to form a band. They dress in businesswear (the two guys in shirt-and-tie getups, the women in conservative dresses). Their signature song, "Application Denied," consists of the lead singer fantasizing about rejecting a hated teacher's driver's license renewal.
• Omnicidal Maniac - Doom metal. All of their songs chronicle the different means for all life on Earth to go extinct, usually from the point of view of the one causing the extinction.
• One-Hit-Point Wonder - Rock band. When a member gets shot, they post-pone the same concert.
• One-Man Army: All rock band whose songs combines the use of every single possible instrument in an orchestra, but they're all played by one man
• One-Winged Angel Symphonic gothic fully-orchestrated power metal from Japan.
• Only Sane Man - A strange Genre Busting garage band where the lead singer dresses like someone from The Hives while everyone else dresses trashy and over the top. While the band plays thrash metal the singer will have lyrical pieces and very clean-sounding speech (albeit with some cursing). Subject matter will probably involve how antagonistic the singer is to the rest of the band, even if they're all in on it.

• Paint the Hero Black - An alternative rock band that sings songs with lyrics that take the most heroic actions in history and try to vilify them. Famous for their hit single "Thirteenth Amendment Blues". While they pretend to be bitter enemies with What the Hell, Hero? it's all scripted for laughs.
• Paranoia Gambit - Industrial Synthetic Rock, advertises through propaganda-style posters.
• Party in My Pocket - Cock rock, all their songs are full of double-(and single-)entendres.
• Paper Fan of Doom - Japanese pop/rock. Everything you never wanted to know about the shark-jumpingest new show's premise, in words you don't understand.
• The Peter Principle - A four-piece indie rock group, not one of whom is named Peter. Described as the private-sector equivalent of Obstructive Bureaucrat, in that they are Midwestern and play indie rock and tend to dress in businesswear, but met instead while at internship at General Motors headquarters in Detroit. Despite the name, not one of their songs has anything to do with the workplace more than generically (e.g. "In Love With the Boss").
• Planet Eris - Discordian rock.
• Planetville: A Zeerust-filled '60s pop band.
• Playable Epilogue - The "Warcraft" half of Extended Gameplay. Ever since Elves Versus Dwarves took them into a grudge match over the less-than-flattering Shout-Out in the Play Ep song All Orcs Are Different, the two groups have been bitter rivals.
• Played for Laughs - A band that only performs covers of other bands. And by perform we mean misplay and fill it with hilarious mondegreens. Many bands stiuplate in their contracts not to let them use their songs as it makes their songs hard to take seriously afterwards.
• Police Brutality - A political punk band that signs from the persona of corrupt and abusive cops. Known for their breakout song "Right to Remain Violent".
• Political Correctness Gone Mad - A Rage Against The Machine clone, but even more mean.
• Porn Stache - A coed 70s rock/disco/pop cover band - pure, sexy, and dirty fun!
• The Power of Rock - Loud rock, duh. One of the earliest "over-the-top" bands,and Trope Codifier for awesome. Inspired Kill It with Fire and There Is No Kill Like Overkill.
  • It's not a Rock 'n Roll band, it's the Rock 'n Roll band. All of their songs are about Rock, the influence it's had on the music industry, great rock musicians of the past, and how Rock has changed the world. Only beaten by The Beatles in sheer popularity. There was once a a kid with cancer who, as his Make-A-Wish, asked if he could play a few riffs with this band. By the end of the first song, his cancer was cured and he had grown a beard. That's how awesome this band is.
• The Power Trio - Glam-rock band with a singer/guitarist as the leader, a sarcastic, intellectual female pianist as the songwriter, and a drummer who just likes to hit things.
• Precision F-Strike - True to the name, this band keeps their language very clean...except once on each album, in the least likely place.
• Predators Are Mean: pretty much the longer running Evil Counterpart to Furries Are Easier to Draw. Death/ doom Metal, and wear Big Badass Wolf costumes.
• Pretty Freeloaders - J-pop Idol Singer duet with generic-sounding songs.
• Princess Classic - Obnoxiously cute girl pop group of skinny teens in way too much makeup and insanely frilly princess dresses. Created and promoted by the Disney Channel, naturally.
• Projected Man - Techno.
• Psycho for Hire: A seemingly insane Death Metal band, that actually deal with mental health issues.
• Public Domain Artifact - Indie rock.
• Putting on the Reich - Volk music. Accuse Those Wacky Nazis of selling out to the Jews with their heinous foreign "metal", introduced by communists to corrupt the patriotic music scene.
• Rage Against the Reflection - An American Christian metalcore band whose lyrics are about their brushes with depression and suicide and eventual turning to Christ
• Rage Quit - A metal band. At their live shows, the guitarist always makes a mistake about halfway through the fifth song, and his playing just gets worse from that point on until he gives up and walks off stage. Currently looking for a new guitarist.
• Rape Is Love - Thrash Goregrind-Porngrind fusion.
• Rated "M" for Manly - On the surface, Heavy Metal. actually a brilliantly done Stealth Parody of the genre. Lots of argument amongst fans if they're music is intentionally So Bad It's Good, unintentionally So Bad It's Good, So Bad It's Horrible, or just plain Good. Rivals of Testosterone Poisoning.
  • We already have this kind of band, and it's called Manowar. Save for the name, the description matches perfectly.
• Raygun Gothic - Power/prog metal. Their albums all tell the Crystal Spires and Togas science fiction saga. They are faster than Dragon Force (video game) and more complex than Dream Theater, and their ultimate goal is to create the most difficult-to-play piece of music ever.
• Real Men Wear Pink - A pop-punk band who have all of their band tee's in pink and often joke about being gay when really they do this to get a female fanbase and thus chicks.
• Red Oni, Blue Oni - More Japanese singers. These ones, for no discernible reason, sing Japanese mythology (and occasionally other mythology) translated to Portuguese through French, with a Punk tune. Nobody has any idea whose idea it was to start this band.
• Refuge in Audacity - Punk comedy band that uses a lot of Dead Baby lyrics.

• Retcon - a cheesy pop/R&B fusion band, which tries to play up its edginess.
• Rightful King Returns - The lead singer is an Elvis impersonator. Nead we say more?
• Robo Speak - The "vocals" are performed by Appletalk, like MC Hawking.
• Rock Me, Amadeus - Neoclassical Metal, do a lot of covers of classical symphonies, mostly Mozart.
• Rock Me, Asmodeus - a hardcore thrash band, but not really black or death metal.
• Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies - The band formed by a disgruntled former member of Kirks Rock, which only lasted two months before the other members left. Currently looking for members.
• Rockstar Song - a Po Mo band who songs are all Trope Names and/or Take Thats against other bands or songs. They'd have a sort of Emo/Ska sound if they didn't deny categorization because they hate all genres equally.
• Room Full of Crazy - A screwed up experimental/avantgarde rock/metal project probably featuring Mike Patton.
  • It's also basically a crazy music supergroup, consisting of Patton, Tom Waits, Buckethead, Les Claypool and John Zorn.
• Rogues Gallery - Heavy metal group that only sings about true crime. Often tour with Start to Corpse.
• Rouge Angles of Satin - Symphonic death metal.
• RPG Elements - Filk band. Members are named after the Classic elements, and their lyric booklets give the band members Character Levels.
• Rule of Cool - A popular band that specializes in fast paced Rock music. Known for their hit single, "Instant Awesome: Just Add Ninja Pirate Zombie Robots".
• Samus Is a Girl - A glam/punk rock hybrid band whose members are all drag queens and kings.
• Schizo-Tech - Alternative rock, using instruments such as violins, electric guitars, trombones, synthesizers, banjos, and amplifiers. An extremely unique sound.
• The Scrappy - A goth/emo metal band that focuses on worthlessness and trash. Songs include "Piece of Junk", "Useless", and "Bound for the Dump".
• Serial Escalation- A band that goes to ridiculous lengths to one-up every other band. Their guitarist plays fast enough to put Dragon Force (video game) to shame... with his teeth, the lead singer incorporates spontaneous glass breakage into their concerts, their drummer is a zombie Keith Moon. Their pyrotechnics must be seen to be believed.
  • They played with Crowning Moment of Awesome once. The show got sold out 3 seconds after tickets went on sale.
• Shaped Like Itself: No one can really pinpoint their style, only agree that the band sounds like itself.
• She's a Man In Japan- American band, none of whom have been to Japan.
• Shock and Awe - AC/DC-influenced band, with some elements of power metal.
• Simple Plan - Pop-punk, maybe from Cana- wait...
• The Snark Knight - A trio of bass/vocals/drums playing a very stripped-down hybrid of Post Punk and Psychedelic Rock. Notorious for their extremely insightful (and verbose) lyrical Take Thats to everything... Including themselves.
• So Bad It's Horrible - A garage band that tries so hard to be the worst band on the entire planet, complete with an awful singer, an out-of-tune guitar, and a drummer who just bangs things randomly, pretending to be completely ignorant as to what a beat is. They end up gaining fans because the worst they can manage to get is So Bad It's Good. Take inspiration from the Shaggs.
• So Yeah - Indie-ish Power Pop based in Seattle but with two of four members from Vancouver (its fans debate whether they sound more like OK Go or The New Pornographers). A fair number of their songs just kind of trail off without actually ending, on the grounds that "you know where this is going, so why should we keep playing?" Most of these songs (and all of their albums) are references to Eddie Izzard routines.
• Someday This Will Come in Handy - Progressive Rock, interspersed with random trivia. At least once per song, at least one band member will implement whatever is in his/her pockets at the time.
• Something About a Rose - retro cocktail act with some stylistic similarities to Pink Martini, who got their start doing Guns N' Roses covers.
• Soul Fragment - Wizard rock. Alternately, the same emo as everyone else.
• Sound Defect - A Stylistic Suck comedy band that specializes in adding Wacky Sound Effects to their music, as well as other sound gags (the sound suddenly cutting out, an instrument suddenly detuning or seeming to break, etc.). A Running Gag involves them attempting to find the right sound effect for a song...and failing repeatedly.
• Slasher Smile- Incredibly distubing and violent lyrics set to catchy, cheerful pop rock
• Speaking Simlish: A pop-rock band that either speak a mash of foreign languages in each song, or just sing gibberish. Wider audiences claim they're actually singing in Chinese, Japanese, Korean and even Russian.
• Spikes of Villainy - affectionate parody of Black Metal. Lots of fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 references in the lyrics.
• Springtime for Hitler - A neo-Nazi rock band that keeps trying to get themselves pulled off the radio by singing praises for Hitler. The controversy just makes them even more popular.
• Squee - a Japanese pop band whose songs are incomprehensible, but the few understandable lyrics all relate to a Sugar Bowl world where sparkles reign supreme.

• Spit Trail Kiss - A french dj and vocalist duo mashing Electronica-House-Club-Trance-Jungle Bass genres.
• Squishy Wizard - A group of self admitted nerds with songs that spoof videogame tropes, such as the titular wizard.
• Start to Corpse - As always with names like these, metal, probably some garage band who's a bit confused on their exact sub-genre, or what it actually means. Bassist wants to play Black metal, the drummer wants to play Death metal, the Guitarist wants to experiment, and the lead singer is still mesmerised by the idea of subgenres.
• Steampunk - Symphonic metal band... with a twist! The band uses steam tractor with generator attached to power their instruments, the drummer uses a clockwork backpack with six extra arms to maximize efficency. Some songs use overhauled string instruments, brass instruments (steam-powered,natch), and a freakin' pipe organ. A Tesla Coil and low-temperature steam provide on-stage effects, musicans dress as Victorian-era gentlemen, soldiers, and Mad Scientists. And you know how they haul all their perephirals around? With the help of their blimp. Currently on tour with Raygun Gothic.
• Stepford Smiler - A pop rock Band Who Plays very Happy music, But lyrically They talk about Suicide and depression and Murder. Basically Lyrical Dissonance to the core.
• Stock Puzzle - A sound crew remixes popular music that you've already heard several hundred times.
• Strange Girl - Eccentric Gothic Rock band with Dream Pop leanings and a slight Trip Hop edge. Friends with Tori Amos.
• Strictly Formula - A pop rock band who uses blatantly steals pretty much every riff, lyric and melody that you've heard in every other song on the radio.
• Stupid Jetpack Hitler - A rather fringish rock band with lyrics which are either profound or nonsensical (nobody agrees, of course). Not for the easily offended.
• Stupid Statement Dance Mix - Remixing internet memes or creating new ones. Most fans are nerds.
• Subspace Ansible - Sci-fi prog rock. Don't like being celled Subspace Ensemble.
• Sucking-In Lines - Emo alternative rock.
• Suddenly Sexuality - Indie gay glam/techno band.
• Super Punk Octo Pudding Gas Mark Seven - Japanese singers who sing entirely in "English".
• The Syndicate - The Italian-American answer to the Dropkick Murphies, singing folk-punk, the folk part coming from traditional Southern Italian music.
• Take It to the Forums - Smashcore clusterjam wreck-rock. Live performances banned in 11 countries.
• Take That - Pretty much the same band as Accentuate the Negative. Naturally, these two bands loathe each other. Not to be confused with the boy middle aged man band led by Gary Barlow.
• Techno Babble - Vocal samples over a drum machine beat, not recommended as backgorund music for crowded places. Features lengthy rap sessions by a Don Vito Corleone impersonator.
• Teens Are Monsters - A ragtag Garage Band trio of misfit teenage girls blasting their hearts out on cheap instruments. Their lyrics are generally sardonic, snarky, darkly humorous reflections and observations on the follies of teenage life. Their music is usually categorized as "alternative rock," but it is also influenced by hardcore punk, punk pop, and progressive rock. They performed their first gig when they crashed a talent show at their high school, setting up in record time and performing part of the song "Pep Rally Purgatory" before the administration caught on and forcibly removed them from the stage. They later released their debut album Brainless Beauty and began a tour in a converted family minivan, playing guerilla gigs across the country and building up a fanbase of various teenage freaks.   • A Daria-esque guitarist/cellist/lead singer who writes most of the lyrics and sings most of the songs.
  • A keyboardist/violinist/occasional lead vocalist and lyricist who dresses like a stereotypical Goth but is actually more like a Shrinking Violet nerd.
  • A drummer/percussionist who has the reputation of being the most energetic and out-there of the three, due to stunts like tossing candy into the audience, punching out bouncers at venues, and soloing until becoming too exhausted to play.
• Telepathic Spacemen - A Psychedelic Rock/Progressive Rock/Space Rock/Shoegazing/Dream Pop/Alternative Metal band who don't need instruments since they play everything in their heads and just use special amplifiers to translate it into sounds. This can make their concerts rather boring since they spend them staring at their shoes.
• Teleporter Accident - Thrashing grindcore, but with a faint yet persistent techno beat.
• Terrorists Without a Cause - Alternative rock, politically infused lyrics against The Man.
  • Either that, or the first-ever indie act out of Cairo.
• Testosterone Poisoning - Blatant parody heavy metal band, with hilarious lyrics. Rivals of Rated "M" for Manly, despite frequently being confused with them.
• There Is No Kill Like Overkill - More Dakka! Speed/power metal in all it's glory. Play only on eleventh volume (their concerts are not unlike Space Shuttle takeoff), use largest and loudest tech available. Frequently perform in improbable locations - over the erupting volcanoes, in the storms' eyes,and on the moon, among other places. Rivals with More Dakka.
• The Schizophrenia Conspiracy - An alternative rock band whose songs all deal with insanity. With the exception of the bassist, every member has spent some time institutionalized.
• Things Man Was Not Meant to Know - The hardest and blackest of the metal bands. No, blacker than that.
• This Troper - a band that exists only in rumours spread along various internet forums (and wikis) by some frustrated nerd that would like to convince people it's a real thing; alas nobody takes him seriously.
• Thong of Shielding - all-female pop/rock. Perform only in lingere' with g-string panties. Songs are about skimpy underthings and protecting loved ones. Currently on tour with Nipple-and-Dimed.
• Those Two Guys - Wacky nerd-humor band. Or at least, WANNABE wacky nerd humor band. They're not actually nerds, and they're really just playing along with the record company to try and capitalize on the success of Weird Al's "White and Nerdy." Yes, they're poser nerds.
• Those Wacky Nazis - Who've constructed an elaborate stage persona of vicious, totally unironic-sounding neo-fascists from which they never deviate, and endeavour to keep their real lives (especially speculation as to whether they're Jewish, as often claimed) secret. As noted above, metal, playing gigs with the Dirty Communists to play off their rivalry. The fact that both Those Wacky Nazis and the Dirty Communists hate Putting on the Reich has led some fans to joke that the two bands are actually just two faces of a larger project, The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.
• To the Bat Noun - Another Superhero tribute rock band. This band's members dress up as member of the Justice League: Batman (lead singer), Superman (keyboard), Wonder Woman (guitar), Green Arrow (bass), and The Flash (drums). They are bitter rivals with Adam Westing.
• Too Cool to Live - Nihilistic party metal. From the "live fast, die young" school of thought.
• Too Spicy for Yog-Sothoth - Parodic reggaeton by a set of three Latino nerds (two Puerto Ricans and a Mexican).
• Touch of the Monster - Goth band with aesthetic and lyrical focus on Interspecies Romance, often involving vampires.
• Tradesnark™ - Happy-go-lucky punk pop along the lines of Aquabats. All their songs parody recognizable corporations and all of their policies and controversy.
• Trope Names for a Band - Nerd/indie with lyrics that take meta humor just a bit too far...
• Troperiffic - TV Tropes' own band. Every song is about a trope. By far their most popular download is "Major-General Song".
• The Troubles - Pop rock with punk influences.

• The Tsunderes - a feminist rock band that sings incredibly catchy songs about controversial women's issues such as extreme beauty ideals and female genital mutilation.
• The Three Amigos - Three high school friends who decided on a whim to start a band. Two girls and a guy.
• Uncle Tomfoolery - An all-Black Hardcore Punk group famous for their fast and fierce musical style best displayed in their first two albums Magical Negro (1982) and Scary Black Man (1983).
• True Art - A musical collective, kind of like Parliament-Funkadelic, consisting of six different bands. When joined together, they sound like bluesy post-rock with angsty lyrics in a foreign language about gore and how much the current establishment sucks.
  • True Art Is Incomprehensible - Ambient post-rock like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, with a penchant for Word Salad Lyrics, unusual instruments, and the Truck Driver's Gear Change.
  • True Art Is Angsty - Whiny emo of the most obnoxious kind.
    • Later ditched any pretence of musicality, becoming a brutal Power Electronics outfit infamous for their extremely disturbing yet strangely hilarious live performances.
  • True Art Is Offensive - Grindcore band similar to Napalm Death, with horrifying lyrics about gore and rape. All the members are currently on death row after the bassist shot the drummer eighty times and had sex with his corpse during a live show.
  • True Art Is Foreign - Indie rock whose lyrics are never sung in English, instead switching between a lot of different languages (sometimes in the same song). Disbanded when all the members decided all their songs should be in one language, but they couldn't agree on which one. However, the lead singer will occasionally scream in Esperanto as a live member of True Art Is Incomprehensible.
  • True Art Sticks It To The Man - Consists entirely of one guy yelling about how much the current establishment sucks over a Brown Note. Currently on hiatus after said guy was arrested during a performance of his 27-minute brown note rant rock epic "Every President That Has Ever Sat In Office Or Ever Will Sucks, And Here Is A Bullet-Pointed List To Explain Why". He has since released the song "You Guys Suck, Man! You Should Have Petitioned For My Release!"
  • True Art Is Ancient - Blues-rock played by eighty-year-old nursing home residents.
    • So, basically they're The Rolling Stones?
    • OH, SNAP!
• Twenty Bear Asses - Heavy Mithril filk, using "no shit there I was" stories as a Framing Device. The Ho Yay manages not to take over.

U-Z

• Unfortunate Implications - Lo-fi rock band whose lyrics do, in fact, have Unfortunate Implications.
• Unmoving Pattern - Dance-pop band that refuses to move on with the times.
• Unsound Effect - Experimental art-rock band that makes "music" with random objects. Kind of a Steve Reich meets early Residents sound.
  • Alternatively, a rap group whose song lyrics consist of absolutely nothing but various onomotopieas.
• Vader Breath - some sub-set of Heavy Metal. Wear death-masks hooked up with forced-air respirators (which they're never seen without, like Daft Punk and their mirrored masks). Sing through voice changers that give them a deep, mechanical grate. Tracks are interspersed with-what else-deep, rhythmic breathing.
• Vendor Trash - Indie band that parodies mainstream musical trends
• Virtual Ghost - Alternates between Punk and Techno music.
• Visible Silence - Quiet-yet-menacing slow rock, with a lot of acoustic instruments a la early Days of the New.
• Voodoo Shark - Full Stop.
• Vox Pops - One of those interchangable cookie-cutter manufactured groups that only does covers of recent pop hits.
• The Wallbangers - Classic rock.
• The Wallet Moths - Indie rock. Currently busking.
• Wangst - Supergroup formed by all the members of Erection Rejection, Face Full of Alien Wingwong, Feng Schwing, and G-Rated Sex, as well as the drummer from X Meets Y and the vocalists from Party in My Pocket. NSFC, NSFT, NSFSC... hell, not safe for ANYBODY.
• Wave of Babies - A bishonen j-pop band
• Well, Excuse Me, Princess! - All woman punk band - sings gritty songs about how they hate débutantes and Ivy Leaguers.
• We Are Not the Wehrmacht - Leftist German hardcore punk band.
• We Can Rule Together- Progressive Power Metal two-man band. Their sound is epic and thunderous, but with subtle love song-like violin pieces. The members dress up as famous historical people who opposed each other. Heavy Audience Participation is one of the things they're renowned for.
• What the Hell, Hero? - A punk band that sings songs about famous heroic historical figures and the most vile things they have ever done. While they pretend to be bitter enemies with Paint the Hero Black it's all scripted for laughs.
• A Wizard Did It - Their lyrics are full of Dungeons and Dragons references.
• Wiki Words - The lyrics of all their songs are freely avaiable online and anyone can edit them. In live performances they only play the instrumental and encourages the aduience to sing the songs, one of the band members is possibly Jimmy Wales in disguise...
• The Woobies - Emo, the whiny, complaining kind.

• Wrestling Doesn't Pay - A cover band who play wrestling entrance themes and dress as their favorite wrestlers.
  • Alternativly, a group of proffesional wrestlers forming a band for reasons explained in the name.
• X Meets Y - Their songs all have to do with human biology. In an extremely creepy way. Alternately, pop rock.
• Xtreme Kool Letterz - A rap/hip hop band with completely unoriginal songs that are usually covers for other rap artists. Well, except for the fact that they have Xtremelee Kool Leerix Wyth Phunkee Letterz.
• Yandere - All female band that will alternate between playing pop music and death metal.
• Yaoi Guys - erotic gay male J-Pop group entirely made of 4chan moderators.
• Yoko Oh No - All-female J-pop group that does covers of Beatles songs.
• You Wanna Get Sued? - Alternative band that only does covers and remixes. Currently has some legal troubles.
• You Fail Logic Forever - a very odd, synth-heavy band whose first album (Global Warning- er, Hollywood Global Warming) is composed almost entirely of things that wouldn't seem out of place on the Surreal Theme Tune page.
• Zerg Rush - Sci Fi speed metal from Seoul.
• Zettai Ryouiki - All female tribute to Neon Genesis Evangelion sporting short skirts and high socks.

• Zombie Apocalypse - Death Metal. Nobody is quite sure if they're serious.
