A character is known for wielding a shield as their weapon of choice. A person who is badass enough to show defense is the greatest offense. A slinger would often use shields guard themselves, but they may also protect others. They not only use it to guard but also a means of attack as well. One method is bashing the shield against the opponent. Another form of using a shield would be throwing it much like a boomerang to cause damage long range. There also some cases where the shield is magical, where it can do more than a normal shield. Another could come in the form of a shield combination with another weapon. One of the most important things that a shield slinger could say is their shield is anything but useless.
- Naofumi Iwatani, from The Rising of the Shield Hero, where he is summoned into another world as one of four Legendary Heroes. Each hero wields a legendary weapon, and Naofumi was summoned with the Legendary Shield. The world functions like an RPG, and with him equipping the shield, his defense is increased massively, where there is very little that can damage him. The Legendary Shield can also absorb materials and can transform into new forms based on them. While not having any skills towards offense, it has many defensive and counter skills that are useful in battle, especially with his party members.
- Maple (Kaede Honjou in real life) from BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense. This Box Weapon comes in the form of a black bull covered in armor with the Vongola Crest on his head. When used in his Cambio Forma, it turns into a helmet and shield. The weapon is modeled after the weapon of choice for the first generation Vongola Lightning Guardian, Lampow. The shield can use the Lightning flames to unleash lighting at the enemy. - Gray, from Atelier Iris 2: The Azoth of Destiny, who is a draconic warrior that dual-wields a pair of shield gauntlets as his weapons. In battle, the best position for him is in front of the party to absorb enemy attacks especially with his Taunt ability. It seems he based his weapons on his captain, Galahad, as he was a warrior under him before being cursed.
- Shield Knight, from Shovel Knight, dual-wields small and large shields. She uses the larger shield to block frontal attacks and charge towards an opponent.
