... because it is copied from TV Tropes. Unless you wrote it yourself - which the edit history on TV Tropes says you did not - this is copyright violation as the material postdates the fork and TV Tropes' subsequent change of license in 2012. Because All The Tropes and TV Tropes run under different Creative Commons licenses, content created there after 2012 cannot legally be used here. The only exception is if you wrote 100% of the text that you are posting to both wikis... but you have to actually say that before we can use the text. If it is not your own work, you will need to rewrite it in your own words before resubmitting it.

We also strongly recommend that you read All The Tropes:How We Do Bans Around Here. This isn't a threat -- this is the wiki policy strictly controlling how and when user bans can be applied by an Admin. We want you to be aware that unlike TVT, we do not ban users on whims or because we're cranky. But we'd like to emphasize that "Falsely representing oneself as having the right to authorize copying content from TV Tropes" is one of the very few ways there are to earn an immediate permaban here at ATT.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Yes, I did indeed write the original. I believe the entire page was taken down and restored after a discussion in 2022, after most of the info on it was posted.

I think I wrote "Imported old example from TV Tropes" in the notes

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Please confirm: What was your username on TVTropes when you wrote the entry?

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

"Maedar".

I was kicked off TV Tropes well over 5 years ago, and I believe my record there has been purged.

The history of that Trope seems to be mostly that of a contributor named War Jay 77 moving most of the info from another page.

And seriously, forgive me for sounding bitter here, but it was a false accusation from another poster that got me kicked off TV Tropes in the first place.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

That almost matches what the TVT edit history says, which means I may owe you an apology... I've referred this to the other mods.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

It's okay. No harm done.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Okay, given how TV Tropes loves to mangle it's edit histories here, and given Warjay's contributions appeared to be a copy from another page, that would match up with your story. My apologies, but we do have to be sure.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

I restored your contributions. If anyone is to blame here, it's TV Tropes for destroying edit history data needed to prevent these sort of false posiitves.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Thank you. They're a bunch of jerks.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

And I apologize for removing the edit in the first place.

Just so you know...

The trope defined under the name Homage doesn't actually describe the usual usage of the word in conversation, although it does describe a variety of homage. That makes it the wrong trope to use for something like what you added a couple days ago to Don McLean's page. As for the right trope ... um. I don't think we have one for the more common usage of "homage".

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Uh... Good point. Maybe the right Trope is Shout Out?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

<nod> I was thinking much the same thing when writing that. Maybe not "right", per se, but certainly much closer.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

What does this edit have to do with the phaser pistol carried by Pavel Chekov?

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Oh, lord, I meant to put it on Chekhov's Gun.

Thanks for the heads up. This is what happens why you try to post at 11:30 at night. Lol

I'm going to have to ask you to read the Style Guide...

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Sorry, I'll fix it and read the guide. In fact, that may have been a typo.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Thanks.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

To be fair, the Trump page is littered with links and cites in just about every possible form. I'm responsible for a few of them, I'm sure.

I Know What You Did Last Summer

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

...didn't have a character named Carla in the original film. At least not that I know of - did you mean someone else?

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Ugh, it was the sequel, and I misspelled her name, I'll fix that.

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

No worries, just wanted to make sure you were aware.

Why are all your edits marked as minor?

2
Agiletek (talkcontribs)

I've noticed nearly all of your edits are marked as minor. Why?

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Sorry, sometimes I forget to put something there. I'll make sure from now on.

Just a heads-up...

2
Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

... since I've been correcting these in your recent contributions all night:

[[The Simpsons]] goes to a disambiguation page that lists every work in the Simpsons franchise including comic books, movies and video games.

[[The Simpsons (animation)]] goes to the TV show.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Ugh, sorry. Thanks for the heads up. Been a long day.

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

Just a quick reminder - when adding examples for specific animation series and the like, be sure that the specific series it applies to is evident in the text of that pothole's link.

Please don't confuse versions of a story

2
Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

We are working very hard to separate different versions of stories into their own pages. Adding tropes for a mini-series adaptation of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves to the page about the original version from the Arabian Nights just makes the mods' jobs harder. If you feel the miniseries is significant enough to merit its own trope entries, give it its own work page.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Yeah, I was having second thoughts myself. Thanks

Please call the example section about ads "Advertising"

3
Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Hello!

I gather that you don't use an adblocker when you visit All The Tropes. Some people use uBlock, and thus end up not seeing anything called "Advertisements"... which is why we use the name "Advertising" instead. Don't ask me why one is blocked and the other isn't.

HeneryVII (talkcontribs)

Oh... Sorry. Yeah, adblockers are a waste of time; they always get by the block. Lol

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

They do a pretty good job of keeping script-kiddie ad-delivered-malware off computers, which is why so many people still use them. They aren't a replacement for a proper antivirus program, but they do help.
