Your account has been permanently blocked for ban evasion

Exactly What It Says on the Tin. The appeal boiled down to "he did it first" (he didn't, and even if he did that's no excuse for anyone else to break the rules), an irrelevancy about TV Tropes (All The Tropes is not TV Tropes), and "I didn't know" (which leads to the question of why he subsequently broke the rules again).

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

As per this post to your Mirahee-wide account by a Miraheze Steward, you have been identified as using a second account to bypass an existing temporary block of this account.

All The Tropes:How We Do Bans Around Here (which was specifically pointed out to you a month ago) clearly states that "Evidence of ban evasion, including but not limited to positive results from a CheckUser performed by the Miraheze stewards" is grounds for a permanent ban without warning on the first occurrence. Thus, in accordance with the results of a CheckUser performed by the Miraheze stewards, we are permanently blocking your account, effective immediately.

If you had simply accepted that your behaviour here was a violation of the Terms of Service and accepted your penalty, this would not have been necessary.

We have not blocked your ability to edit this page. If you wish to appeal your permanent block, you may do so right here, in this thread.

Note that we will not accept "I didn't mean to" or "I didn't do it on purpose" or "I don't remember doing that" (or any variation thereof) as excuses. You had to knowingly and purposefully create your second account here.

I just got angry because I felt like Looneytoons was disrespecting me. And he did tell me to stop acting cute.

Iloveicecream (talkcontribs)

I will admit I have edited TV Tropes in the past…which might have been the reason my edits were similar. I quit editing them though because of Fighteer.

Iloveicecream (talkcontribs)

I didn’t know I had been banned for two more weeks…I had logged out at the time.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Let's take these in order.

I just got angry because I felt like Looneytoons was disrespecting me. And he did tell me to stop acting cute.

Looney Toons gave you the respect that your repeated actions had earned you. You reap what you sow.

And, yes, he did tell you to stop being cute. This is because you had repeatedly been cute, and we had repeatedly told you specific things to stop doing - he was simply expanding from the specific cases to the general case.

If you believed that a moderator had broken the rules here, the correct response was to call him on it. You chose instead to break the rules yourself.

I will admit I have edited TV Tropes in the past…which might have been the reason my edits were similar. I quit editing them though because of Fighteer.

What happens on TV Tropes since 2013 is irrelevant to this wiki, except that additions made to that wiki in that timeframe cannot legally be added to this wiki. Your edits here as "Thistroperz" were so similar to your edits here as "Iloveicecream" that it was obvious they were made by the same person, even to somebody who isn't a professional editor, is what caused your additional account to be globally locked at Miraheze.

This is not a reason for us to reconsider. This is not even an excuse.

I didn’t know I had been banned for two more weeks…I had logged out at the time.

You had to log in before you could edit, and the server is programmed to give you a notice that you are blocked if you try to edit while blocked.

This is not a reason for us to reconsider. This is not even an excuse.

Either you are unable or unwilling to read text that is presented directly to you, or you chose to ignore the rules that had been told to you. You have shown by your own actions that you are not welcome here.

Your proposed edit to Bully (video game)/YMMV has been rejected...

Summary by Looney Toons

More copyright infringement

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

...for yet another instance of copyright violation. Most of the edits you made to the entry for Draco in Leather Pants were lifted word-for-word from the equivalent page on TV Tropes.

You have been warned once already about copyright violations and plagiarism; consequently, per section 2.3 of How We Do Bans Around Here you are now subject to an immediate tempban of one week's duration.

Be aware that a third incident will result in a permanent ban from the wiki.

Iloveicecream (talkcontribs)

It wasn’t on purpose.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

We and I speak with mod hat on, could not care less. Either submit your edits blind (and clean room, meaning don't try to launder plagiarized content as your own, don't even LOOK at TV Tropes for any material you write), or your next incident of plagiarism will be your last. We take legal liability very seriously here, and will permaban you if we must to avoid legal trouble.

Consider this your final warning.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

I support GethN7 in this.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Are you saying you accidentally copied text from TV Tropes?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Assume for the sake of argument that we actually believe that frankly unbelievable claim. Even if it were somehow possible to "unintentionally" cut and paste content from TVT to ATT, it doesn't matter. Accidental or not, it is still a violation of law and the license terms of both wikis, and directly puts All The Tropes at risk of legal liability. We can be shut down because you somehow "accidentally" copied content from TVT which cannot legally be used here. Fortunately, the moderation system prevents "accidental" illegal copying by unvetted contributors from actually being applied to the wiki -- but that doesn't mean we're going to let you keep doing it. There comes a point where policing you to make sure you don't violate our number one biggest rule is more trouble than it's worth. And you're one "unintentional" edit away from that. So stop trying to be cute and slip stuff in.

Iloveicecream (talkcontribs)

Go to hell. I don’t even like Fighteer. He banned me forever from his website for petty reasons.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Considering that I am taking time from my vacation to go through the backlog of your proposed edits and have had to correct something in every single one that I've approved so far, I am not inclined to be my usual nice self.

Quoting from All The Tropes:There is No One True Way, which is clearly marked in boldface as "a core policy of the site":

The second part of it is being tolerant to others. You may not agree with an editor, but you should always be able to respect another editor.

@Iloveicecream, you are in violation of Article 1 of this site's Terms of Service. That is grounds for a tempban without warning on the first occurrence. Since you are already tempbanned, I am extending your existing tempban by two weeks.

Summary by Looney Toons

The first hint that we could not trust this user not to blatantly plagiarize.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Because there were multiple passages copied word-for-word from TV Tropes' page for Enchanted, and in a few cases you actually changed our existing entries to become copies of TVT's text. In case you have not come across it elsewhere on the wiki, copying content directly from TV Tropes is illegal and threatens the long-term survival of the wiki. TVT and ATT have incompatible Creative Commons licenses, and content cannot be shared between them without the express permission of every person who ever wrote or edited that content. Please read our Copyright policy for the full details on what you can and cannot do.

Also due to the scope of the copyright violation, this has now become a formal warning per How We Do Bans Around Here. Further copyright violations will result in a temporary ban per the first point under "Grounds for a warning on the first occurrence and a tempban on a repeated occurrence".

You are required to reply in this thread that you have read the policies and pages in question and understand what they mean. Failure to reply is also grounds for temporary ban, in this case a non-punitive block that will be lifted as soon as you reply. It is in your interests to reply.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)
Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

It has been just a bit under twenty-four hours since the request that you reply in this thread was made, and you have edited a page in that time, demonstrating that you have been on the wiki. I will repeat that failure to reply as requested is grounds for temporary, non-punitive ban that will only be lifted when you do finally reply.

If you do not respond within the next twenty-four hours, you will receive a tempban.

Again, it is in your best interests to reply.

Iloveicecream (talkcontribs)

I don’t recall copying and pasting.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

I'm sorry, but that's simply not believable, not when the tropelist in your submitted edit was a word-for-word copy of that on the equivalent page at TV Tropes, even going so far as to change existing tropes to match the form they now have at TVT, ten years after we forked for them. This is not coincidence. This is not accident. This is copying the whole damned thing, changing it all to our markup, and pasting it in.

Did you read our Copyright policy? Did you read How We Do Bans Around Here? Do you understand them? Do you understand that copyright is serious business here and that the next time you plagiarize something from TVT you will receive a ban?

Well, I have been trying to improve it.

Please mark up Film and TV Show names with italics

He didn't.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

In the past few days I've had to go in after almost every one of your several dozen recent edits and properly mark up the work names.

Also, please make sure you link using the actual page name and not a redirect link. For example, the name of the film is The Lion King, not Lion King.

Thanks!

Iloveicecream (talkcontribs)

Sorry. It’s just that I can’t italicize on my IPad.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Are you using the source editor or the visual editor? If you're using the visual editor, try "Edit source" instead, and simply put two apostrophes before and after what you want to italicize, like so: Show Name

Iloveicecream (talkcontribs)

OK, thanks.

Your edit to Beautiful Dreamer has been rejected

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Because the example you submitted uses an unmarked-up abbreviation as the apparent work name in violation of our style guidelines. Please use the actual work name and mark it up properly. For your convenience, the text of your contribution is quoted below:

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Well, that's fine, but it still doesn't identify it any useful way to someone who doesn't know that. And that's the issue that needs to be addressed. For all I know from the original context it could mean "Submachine Gun #4" or "Soviet Manufacturing Girl Four". No example entry should ever assume the reader already knows what it's about.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

And if one gets through anyway, we have the who inline marker to highlight the problem. EDIT: Feel free to use it on pages where it's needed!

Iloveicecream (talkcontribs)

Whoops.

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

Yeah, just be sure to add the necessary context next time around.

FWIW, Creators and Works pages are a free launch, so I'll likely prep a basic one for SMG4 soon.

EDIT: Donezo - creator and work, right there.

Summary by Looney Toons

Another request he ignored.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

It looks like you're composing some of your contributions in Microsoft Word or a similar word processor and then pasting them into the wiki. While this normally wouldn't be a problem, by default Word and its imitators convert apostrophes and double quotes (', ", ") into their "curved" typographic equivalents (’, “, ”). This causes problems when they are used in links and for markup, as the wiki software does not recognize them -- for example, I just had to fix a case where you inserted Achilles' Heel as Achilles’ Heel, resulting in Achilles’ Heel instead of Achilles' Heel.

In general we have been very happy with your contributions to the wiki, and if you could please be careful about this we would be even happier. I'd suggest turning off this feature in your word processor (if it is at all possible) when composing text for the wiki.

Iloveicecream (talkcontribs)

Ok, sure.

Iloveicecream (talkcontribs)

I did get slightly frustrated with this wikia at first but I’m not feeling frustrated at the moment.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

If you use LibreOffice (I believe there is an official extension for Microsoft Word as well), there is an extension that saves your work in MediaWiki suitable formatting to avoid issues, I recommend making sure you have that before submitting it here.

MS Word: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=12298

LibreOffice: MediaWiki Publisher extension should be integrated into latest versions

Could I trouble you to read the Style Guide, please?

Summary by Looney Toons

He couldn't be bothered.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Hello!

Thank you for your contribution to Innocent Aliens. There's just one thing... your new example was about the TV series V, and you put it in the middle of a list of examples from Doctor Who - making it difficult for anybody else to find it.

Since we didn't already have any examples from V, I've moved your new example to the end of the Live Action TV section to make it easier to find.

We do mention this in the Style Guide:

If you're adding an entirely new example to an existing section, put it at the end of the section. If you just drop it in at the top (or worse, at random in the middle for no good reason), an admin will probably end up moving it to the end of the section within a day or so, so it'll end up there anyway, so why not start with it in the right place?

Which brings me to my request: Could you take some time and read the Style Guide for this wiki, please?

You haven't done anything wrong - don't worry. The admins would simply prefer that everybody does things in the same general way, so that everybody knows what's new on the wiki.

Iloveicecream (talkcontribs)

Sorry, I messed up.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

No worries. And thanks for the reply.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)
Iloveicecream (talkcontribs)
