Thank you for your continued contributions to All The Tropes!

However, we have legal requirements that must be met when images are uploaded to the wiki. The image you just uploaded, Iris Hepburn.jpg, needs a few things, most specifically the license under which we may use it. Please see our page All The Tropes:Uploading and Adding an Image to a Page for the specifics. If you can't provide at the very least the license, we're going to have to delete the image to product the wiki from legal liability.

As of this posting, the image now has a license. However, there are multiple issues with this file upload.

The less important issue is that the description claim that the image is from TV Tropes, but the source link provided is to a different website altogether.

The more important issue is that this is a copyrighted file that is not being used on any page of the wiki. You have had nearly an hour to put a link to this image on a wiki page.

We cannot legally keep a copy of a an image that is listed as being here under "Fair Use" if we don't use it. Fair Use requires use.

@Lex Vexia 009, I'll give you 30 minutes to find a place to use this file. Otherwise, it will have to be deleted i order to protect the wiki.

It's been 30 minutes. Deleting the image in order to protect the wiki.

You used the {{tvtimageimport}} template, which inserts text reading "This image was imported from TV Tropes from content gathered in early July 2012. The original file was located at" followed by the URL you provided. Since our instruction page on uploading and embedding images doesn't say a thing about this template, which is only used for images we acquired during the fork, why did you think it was necessary?

Because I misread something when I looked up Uploading and Adding an Image to a page section. I see where I screwed up now. What liscence do I file it under if the image comes from a different site?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Read the linked page in my previous message. It contains all the information you need -- more than I can (or should) put in a short reply here.

Lex Vexia 009 (talkcontribs)

That's what I mean. When I looked it up it didn't have an article that covered using images from different sites all together. It covered Wikipedia and it covered TV Tropes. But I couldn't find anything based for different internet content all together.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Item 3 under "Important Information About the Image".

"Licensing" under "Uploading the Image to the Wiki", subsection "File Description".

Read those two passages. If you can honestly tell me after reading them that we only talk about Wikipedia and TV Tropes, I will rewrite the entire damned page in words of one syllable.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Just curious, did those passages answer your questions?

Lex Vexia 009 (talkcontribs)

I think so yea. Just haven't bothered getting around to it since work has me preoccupied at the moment. That and I'm not all that confident that I'll be able to get it right the second time around.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

As long as you make an honest effort at it -- and you let the mods know if you're not sure if you did something right -- you'll get a lot of leeway. It's really the arrogant types who like to think the rules don't apply to them and the Drive-By Updaters who get our ire.

Lex Vexia 009 (talkcontribs)

Hey I'm having a problem trying to re-upload the Iris image. For some reason it keeps bringing up deletion history checks every time I try to apply it again. Can I have some help in getting it to go through please.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

What I can do is "undelete" the image -- but once I do, please put it on a page relatively quickly so we stay within the legal requirements of "fair use".

EDIT: And it's been undeleted.

I couldn't when I uploaded it, the page just went immediately to "Moderators will look it over" before giving me the dismiss command.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

That's odd. You should be able to specify the license at the same time that you upload the image - it isn't supposed to be a two-step process.

EDIT: Ah - your update of the page went into the moderation queue. Sorry, I misunderstood your comment.

Thank you for registering and editing at All The Tropes...

Uh, LT, I seriously doubt TVT even HAS a page for this, given its a hentai game (nothing under the English title of Funbag Fantasy either). Unless I missed something.

Umbire the Phantom (talkcontribs)

Yeah, I'm not seeing any history for this myself - do you have a source for where these edits were supposedly copied from?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

<facepalm>

This is what I get when I don't doublecheck my search results. I compared it to a Google-retrieved copy of itself. As you can see, I've replaced the original message above with an apology.
