If there's an award for the least useful image name, it would go to that image. It tells me nothing about what the image contains, and is difficult to remember and type out. Per All The Tropes:Uploading and Adding an Image to a Page, "A lot of websites use long strings of letters and numbers for their filenames. We'd rather not have that. Before you upload anything to us, please make sure it has a human-readable name that's somehow relevant to the image's content and/or origins." Now that you've uploaded the image, there's nothing much you can do other than getting an admin to rename it.

Now onto the much bigger issue. I've noticed you didn't add any licensing, categories, or summary information to the image. I'm not an admin, but the admins here are absolutely frantic regarding licensing. Read through All The Tropes:Uploading and Adding an Image to a Page, which tells you that you must select a license when uploading an image (so we won't get in trouble with the law). You must also note down where you got the image from and put it in the summary (so we can recover in case of a major data loss). If you fail to do any of those, an admin will quickly come knocking on your door.

Congratulations!

Because of your consistent good edits over the past couple months (as well as your willingness to take advice, as seen below), the All The Tropes staff has chosen to give you autopatrolled status. As a result, your edits will now be applied directly to the wiki instead of going into the moderation queue for approval by one of the mods. It's an awesome responsibility that we're trusting you with. <grin>

As an immediate side effect, everything you had in the Moderation Queue has been automatically ok'ed, except for the image you uploaded before the beginning of the recent issues with images, File:CommunityIcon h448yn7v6aa91.png. This, sadly, will have to lurk in the mod queue until the problem with cloud11 is resolved.

Again, congratulations and welcome to the greater wiki community.

...because once again it's missing most of the markup needed to properly integrate it into the wiki.

As was suggested for your other proposed new page, please resubmit your contribution using the "Create Works Page" prompt on the ATT Page Creator. This will start you out in a skeleton page with all the required markup already in place, and all you will need to do is paste in your content. Don't delete anything you don't understand; just trust that it's there for a reason.

If you do not have a copy of your proposed page saved offline, please let us know and we will retrieve it for you.

Can you retrieve it? I don't think I have it saved.

Puterboy1 (talkcontribs)

I mean, can you retrive what I have written?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Here you go:

Brightburn is a 2019 horror film directed by David Yarovesky and produced by James Gunn. It is a dark retelling of the Superman mythos.

It's the story of Brandon Byers, a 12 year old boy who was discovered in a spaceship by his parents as a baby. He seems sweet...at first, but when he turns twelve, he become dark and uses his newfound powers to bring death and destruction to his hometown.

tropelist
* The Bad Guy Wins / Karma Houdini: Brandon gets away with all the shit he pulled in the movie with no remorse for his actions.
* Beware the Superman: One of the most horrifying examples of this trope.
* Eye Scream: This happens to Erica, the waitress whom Brandon attacks.
* Hero Antagonist: Brandon's adoptive parents and most of his victims account as this.
* Mysterious Past: Although Brandon's life prior to the events of the film have yet to be given too much detail, what we can hypothesize (based on the origins of Superman and other similar characters like Hyperion) is that he was sent by his parents from a dying planet to conquer the Earth.
* The Sociopath: Guess who.
* Villain Protagonist: Brandon, as is often the case in horror films.

Thank you.

No problem.

Your proposed new page "Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus" has been rejected in moderation...

... because it consists of only two sentences and a single category. It is lacking all the required markup for a work page and has no tropes listed.

Please review All The Tropes:Works Page Guidelines and resubmit the page using the the Page Creator, which will start you out in an empty page with all the minimum required markup already in place -- all you will need to do is provide the content. Also, please do not be intimidated by the Guidelines. They mostly lay out our ideal case -- our absolute bare minimum is the skeleton markup you get with the Page Creator, at least a couple paragraphs on the work in the main text, and five tropes in the tropelist, with context and analysis of the roles they play in the work.

Thank you.

Your proposed upload of the file "TheLittleBlueEngine.png" has been rejected in moderation...

... because it's lacking quite a lot of the supporting information we require in an image upload, most importantly the licensing information. We cannot accept an uploaded image without the license under which we can legally make use of it. Please review All The Tropes:Uploading and Adding an Image to a Page, particularly section 2.2 (and especially 2.2.3), before re-uploading the file.

And because it was a change that made use of the rejected file, we've also rejected your proposed edit to The Little Engine That Could/Characters. Again, once you have reuploaded the image with the required licensing information, please resubmit that edit as well.

Finally, we apologize for the excessively long time these edits have waited in moderation. The admin staff is somewhat overloaded at the moment, and in my personal case for the past two weeks I have been dealing with a family member in the hospital. Please forgive the delay.

...for copyright violation. As short as it is, a substantial portion of it -- sixteen words out of its twenty-six -- is word-for-word identical to part of the first sentence of the trope entry on the corresponding page at TV Tropes. As we've said in the past to other contributors, there is no amount of identifiable text that is too small to count as infringement; under that guideline we have bounced a six-word image caption for infringement, and this is nearly three times as large.

Please do a more thorough job of creating an original trope entry and resubmit it.

Thank you.

...not because anything was wrong with its content, but because it was a trope about one of the film adaptations and you were adding it to the page for the novel. We want separate pages for each version of a work, otherwise it's very easy for a work page to turn into a mass of confusing variants and contradictions. Unfortunately we don't currently have a page for the 1963 film adaptation, but that just gives you an opportunity to write it yourself, if you like.

Robkelk (talkcontribs)

Adding to Looney Tunes' comment above, Works Pages Are a Free Launch here (assuming the work is legal to discuss in the UK). As long as you can come up with a halfway-decent description and three tropes, you're good to go - no need for admin approval or the Trope Workshop process.

Puterboy1 (talkcontribs)

So I put it on the Ken Burns Effect main page.

Your proposed edit to "Hocus Pocus (film)" has been rejected in moderation...

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

... because it is a word-for-word copy of content from the corresponding page on TV Tropes. This is copyright infringement as the material postdates the fork and TV Tropes' subsequent change of license in 2012. Because All The Tropes and TV Tropes run under different Creative Commons licenses, content created there after 2012 cannot legally be used here without the express written approval of all the editors who contributed to it.

Feel free to rewrite the material in your own words and resubmit it, but we strongly recommend you read our Copyrights policy first.

Finally we strongly recommend that you read All The Tropes:How We Do Bans Around Here. This isn't a threat -- this is the wiki policy strictly controlling how and when user bans can be applied by an Admin. We want you to be aware that unlike TVT, we do not ban users on whims or because we're cranky.
