Valkyria Chronicles/Tear Jerker

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Valkyria Chronicles has one about half way through. Isara getting shot and killed out of nowhere is one saddest things this troper has ever seen. It doesn't help that she dies with a smile on her face.
    • Then in the next cut scene Rosie only being able to fill her promise to Isara by singing at her graveside is sad, the fact that the song is beautiful makes it totally heartbreaking.
      • And the song helps with the mood.
      • I personally saw it coming, so I managed to keep it together during the initial scene, but when they got to Rosie's song, I flat out broke down crying. Hands down the single most affecting moment I've ever seen in a game.
    • It should be noted that, for everyone other than plot important character(with the exception of the previously noted), death on the field is permanent. Add this to the fact that every recruit has their own model, personality, biography, and fully voiced death sequence, and this trope is a possible reaction to ANYONE dying on the field.
    • Isara's death was very sad for this troper, but the true Tearjerker of this game in his opinion is Selvaria's last words before she blows herself up. "Goodbye, my lord Maximillian. All Glories to you." Sniff.
  • Um, HELLO?!?! No love for poor Fritz!? The poor guy got separated from his squad, and shot several times, and had to stagger to the only shelter he could find, only to die begging for his mother. This scene drives home the point that every soldier on the battlefield has a family to go home to, a life outside of this crazy war. If you didn't feel like a Complete Monster every time you took out an enemy squadron from then on, you are without a soul.
