George Ivan "Van" Morrison, OBE (born 31 August 1945) is a Northern Irish singer-songwriter and musician. His live performances at their best are described as mystical and transcendental, while some of his recordings, such as the studio albums Astral Weeks and Moondance and the live album It's Too Late to Stop Now, are critically acclaimed.

Van Morrison provides examples of the following tropes:
  • Race Lift: Morrison's 1967 single "Brown Eyed Girl" was originally "Brown-Skinned Girl", but when he recorded it in the middle of a marathon two-day recording session, he botched the lyrics without anyone (including himself) realizing it. A rumor later grew that the change from brown-skinned to brown-eyed was due to racial politics and that Morrison had altered the lyrics to make the song palatable to racist Southern radio markets.
