Warrior Cats/Recap/After Sunset: The Right Choice?

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

After Sunset: The Right Choice? is a short story that debuted on the official Warriors iOS app.

Leafpool reflects on what had happened earlier in the day: finding Firestar laying still in the fox trap, seeing Hawkfrost laying dead in the lake. Firestar is recovering (he is mentioned as having not) lost a life, and Leafpool realizes that the prophecy "Before there is peace, blood will spill blood..." has come true.

When arriving at a spot she often comes to admire the lake, she is surprised to find Brambleclaw there. He is embarrased to have taken her spot, but she invites him to stay, settling down herself, and thinking about her unborn kits.

He looks so dejected that she asks him what is wrong, letting him know that as his medicine cat, she can confide in him. He argues with her for a while about the fact that she doesn't trust him, but she just says that she doesn't have to trust him, but that Squirrelflight and StarClan do, and he shouldn't let them down. He blames himself for having to kill Hawkfrost, his own brother, on the very first day he became deputy (though in the actual books he became deputy earlier), and wonders if it was an omen that he's not the right cat as deputy. His Clanmates already didn't trust him because of his father; now he became deputy without having an apprentice, which is against the warrior code. He fears that he will never get anything right, finishing with "Now they will blame me for everything that goes wrong, every drop of blood that is lost. Whatever I do, I will destroy my own Clan from within." Leafpool thinks to herself that Brambleclaw's words sounded more like a prophecy than anything.
