Welcome Titles are Title Sequences done in the same format as the show itself. Original footage is created to showcase elements of the show's world. Often, this takes the form of a main character walking though his neighborhood, greeting other characters on their way to work.

Fairly common in animation, but rare otherwise, probably due to the cost of creating such footage.

Examples of Welcome Titles include:

Anime and Manga

  • At least one season of Ranma ½ had a brief segment after the Anime Theme Song titles introducing the main characters.
    • The Viz release of several of the later OVA episodes began with a song called "Where Do We Go From Here", during which the various cast members were shown around the neighborhood and/or on their way to school.
  • Nagasarete Airantou

Live-Action TV

  • Seen on the short-lived American version of Coupling.[context?]
  • Everybody Loves Raymond had the family introduced while passing by on a conveyor belt for a while.
  • Wizards of Waverly Place had several openings with original footage, showing how the Russo family would go around their day, with Alex trying to get away with schemes and her family attempting to foil them for her safety.

Professional Wrestling

  • Monday Night Raw had titles like this for a while, featuring Steve Austin. Oh, and the supporting cast were all fighting. And "neighbourhood" was a disused factory on fire.

Puppet Shows

  • Bear in the Big Blue House
  • Sesame Street's many theme variants show original footage of the Sesame Street cast walking around, playing, and sometimes dancing in their neighborhood. Originally, you see kids running around, but later versions have upbeat arrangements.
  • The Big Comfy Couch had an opening of the different cast members either waving to the audience or going about their day That includes the clowns, the Dust Bunnies, and the dollhouse family.
  • The Puzzle Place has the cast singing about what they love about the puzzle place, as well as their individual passions from plants to music or dancing. We also get introduced to Nuzzle and Sizzle, as well as the Piece Police.
  • Wimzie's House shows Wimzie waking up, giving kisses to her parents to start their day, and sliding down the stair railing to reach the kitchen for breakfast. She then welcomes her friends in as they arrive at her house for daycare, with Horace being the last one.

Western Animation

  • The Simpsons has this for the classic opening, as well as two Treehouse of Horror variants. As Bart leaves detention, Lisa is booted from orchestra, Homer clocks out and Marge gets groceries with Maggie's help, they all try to make it on time, to the beloved couch.
  • The "TV Funhouse" in Saturday Night Live
  • Transformers openings tend to use this, except for the series that animate the Transformers in CGI.
