Were the World Mine

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.
My tongue your tongue, were the world mine.

If you could make someone love you, would you?

Were The World Mine is a 2008 musical film directed by Tom Gustafson.

Timothy is a gay teen who attends a private high school filled with homophobic jocks. After his teacher casts him as Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream, he stumbles upon a recipe hidden within the script to create the play's love potion. With the power of the magic pansy, he turns much of his narrow-minded town gay, including his jock-crush, Jonathon.

Tropes used in Were the World Mine include:
  • All Musicals Are Adaptations
  • Black Best Friend: Max for Timothy. Also the best friend for Jonathon's girlfriend.
  • Disappeared Dad: Timothy's father kicked his son out for being gay.
  • Dodgeball Is Hell: The movie opens on a dodgeball sequence, ending in a ball thrown right at Timothy hard enough to give him a black eye.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Timothy is cast as a fairy.
  • Don't Try This At Home: Outing your son to everyone you meet is considered incredibally poor form.
  • Incredibly Lame Pun: The power of the magic pansy indeed.
  • Jerk Jock: All of Timothy's classmates except Jonathan.
  • Literary Allusion Title
  • Lovable Jock: Jonathan.
  • Love At First Sight: Highly subverted.
  • Love Potion
  • Only Sane Women: Frankie, Donna (Timothy's mother).
  • Purple Prose: Those under the spell of the pansy begin speaking in a more Shakesperian manner.
  • Shallow Love Interest: Jonathon has been accused of being something of this.
  • Shirtless Scene: Plenty of them.
  • Invisible to Gaydar: Timothy doesn't hide his sexuality, but neither is it in your face. Likewise, Jonathan is implied to be attracted to Timothy before the pansy's spell, though only Frankie and Max comment on it.
  • The Fair Folk
  • The Show Must Go On: Word-for-word, several times
  • Title Drop: "My ear should catch your voice, my eye your eye, my tongue should catch your tongue's sweet melody, my tongue your tongue, were the world mine."
  • School Play: The whole plot.
  • Unfortunate Implications: Some waspy townsladies shriek about homosexuality being unnatural, and are seen in a poor light. But Timothy is running around making people love eachother against their will, and is the protagonist. So - homosexuality is unnatural?
    • Supernaturally highjacking someone's emotions to make them believe they love someone they don't is unnatural. Having people possibly have sex with one another while under the influence of supernatural highjacking is not only unnatural but also rape on the part of the one doing the highjacking. If a person is heterosexual but forced into a homosexual relationship due to the highjacking, then, yes, in that instance, homosexuality is unnatural. Heterosexuality would also be unnatural if it were a case of a homosexual person forced into a heterosexual relationship due to someone magically manipulating their emotions.
