Is there a way to change my username?

Spirit Of A Kiger (talkcontribs)

If not, can I delete this account and make a new one?

Ilikecomputers (talkcontribs)

Is there a way to change text color on my end? Otherwise, can we get rid of the pink text on Heartwarming pages?

3
Spirit Of A Kiger (talkcontribs)

I can barely read the pink text on Heartwarming pages. Is it possible to make it so that it's just black on my end? If not, I'd kinda like this to be introduced as an option or, if not, make it so that all the text is black period.

I'm sure a lot of people like it, and I mean no disrespect to them! It's just... again, I can barely read it.

Ilikecomputers (talkcontribs)

Go to your preferences, appearance tab, then switch skin to cosmos. If I do that, all the text on Heartwarming pages look black. You do have to get used to the new appearance though. The background still stays pink.

If you want to stick with the same skin, I've made User:Ilikecomputers/vector-2022.js, which you can add as a custom script (preferences > appearance > Custom Javascript under whatever skin you're using). Copy all four lines (or lines two - four, as those are the only ones that matter) into the new file that pops up and save. Don't worry, these lines don't steal your information or send them to another site! Line one explains what the code does, line two detects you're on a "heartwarming" page, and line three overwrites the style rule that makes the text pink.

I hope that helped!

Spirit Of A Kiger (talkcontribs)

Yeah, it worked! Thank you! It took a bit of time since for some reason, edits to my own profile are included in needing to be approved by the moderators. But now that it's been approved, it works.

Search is barely useable.

  1. search for "house phica": 12 hits. Those are the same 2 pages over and over.
  2. search for "who are you and what": 504 Gateway Time-out. Generally most phrases starting with a common word produce the same error.
GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Known issue. Orain is switching hosts and caching to remedy this in the next couple of days.

Arromdee (talkcontribs)

Search now seems broken completely. Searching for a string that isn't an article title not only results in a gateway timeout, but seems to hang up the entire server until the gateway timeout is produced.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Orain staff still working on this.

Arromdee (talkcontribs)

Okay. This also brings up a related topic: It's hard to search for something that's already an article title (for instance, to find unlinked instances of it so that I can link them to the article). If you want to search for something that's already an article title, you need to search for a non-title, then use the search box you get from those results--that search box produces the results, while the initial search box just directly takes you to the article.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

That's partially a design of MediaWiki's built in search feature, but here's a work around:

Say "Title 1" is a linked title but "Title One" is not and needs to be redirected. Go to the page that needs turned into a redirect and open up a new tab for the "What Links Here" option on the sidebar and see what it links to, then turn it into the appropriate redirect.

FYI, PmWiki is even worse, lacking a built in "What Links Here" option.

Arromdee (talkcontribs)

It's not for redirects, it's for new pages. I create a page about Eclipse Comics, then I want to search for Eclipse Comics in other pages so I can make them links to my new page.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

Our search is kinda borked right now, but when it's working again, do this.

1. Click the hourglass icon on search menu.

2. When at the search special page, add "Eclipse Comics" (the " marks single out those words). This should bring up every page mentioning those terms.

For now, you can go to Google and do something similar by looking for all pages on this site with those terms.

Not a big surprise, IMO.

PmWiki and MediaWiki do have some similar markup and features due to being coded in PHP for the same general purpose, but how they do that is different in many ways, but yeah, in this they work almost the same.

Phone version on my computer

Summary by Robkelk

There's a link at the bottom of the website that says "Desktop". That should fix it.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

This isn't so much a bug report as it is an admission of my ineptness at technology and a request for help. And my ignorance of where to ask for help of course. My computer is running the phone version of the website instead of the computer version. I don't know what I did to switch it. This isn't the first time. But now I am having a super difficult time changing it back. Maybe Settings should help, but when I click on Settings, the page I get is basically blank.

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

It did. Thanks.

Category Problems After Yesterday's Tech Stuff

1
Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

As best as I can determine, every single category got emptied of contents at some point during or after the hour or so of technical support work on the wiki in the middle of the day yesterday. If a page has been edited since then, it's back in all its categories, but everything else is still missing.

Case in point: The number one category on the "Most Linked Categories" special page is Images imported from TV Tropes without an identified license, which is supposed to have 49,176 members. But if you go there right now, there are three images in it.

I see no tools available to me to regenerate category memberships -- is this something someone else has access to? Or do we need to do something more drastic?

Question/Suggestion for Mobile

4
Jade Shauni (talkcontribs)

In Reddit mainly there's people wishing that "All The Tropes" is compatible with mobile, for easy editing for them. Is there a way to make this possible? Or is this too far out of our reach for the time being.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

I've put in a request for some new features, this should be on the list.

If not,I'll re-check.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)
Jade Shauni (talkcontribs)

Oh, sorry, I didn't know it was requested.

The Trope Workshop has vanished

Summary by Looney Toons

It came back.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

@Jade Shauni just reported this over in Wiki Talk, and I've confirmed -- trying to go to the Workshop gets a 500 error.

TBeholder (talkcontribs)

I see only a blank page, not even an error message.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Might depend on the browser, then, what you get... I checked in Chrome.

Jade Shauni (talkcontribs)

I checked both Mozilla and Chrome a while ago, it didn't work.

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

Unfortunately, Jade, our chief fiddle-with-the-guts guy is Labster, and he's off at conference in Europe right now, and is at least a few days away from coming back.

Jade Shauni (talkcontribs)

Okay, so we just have to wait. I've just posted that to clarify that it doesn't work (Guess I overkilled it).

Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

It's either still down or down again. How long does this stuff typically take when Labster is around and how many more days is "a few days"?

Looney Toons (talkcontribs)

He may not have noticed. I'll explicitly ping @Labster here right now, and make sure there's a note about it in the off-site ATT thread at the DW forums.

Labster (talkcontribs)

Seems to be fixed to me.

TBeholder (talkcontribs)

Yup. What was with it?

Labster (talkcontribs)

Extension:Cite did something weird, so Extension:DynamicPageList3 worked around the bug. And then Cite stopped doing that weird thing in 1.29, so DPL3 broke. All I had to do was update the DPL3 software.

Summary by Looney Toons

Problem was solved or solved itself shortly after it appeared.

TBeholder (talkcontribs)

Lua error: callParserFunction: function "SUBPAGES" was not found.

Resolved Forum Topic location

1
Goo Monster (talkcontribs)

Is there a way to have it so threads that are marked "resolved" go to the bottom? Or at the very least, don't get bumped up to the top when they are marked as resolved?

/v/allthetropes on Voat is a disabled subverse

3
Summary by SelfCloak

Link to subverse on ATT's sidebar removed. No attempt to re-enable the subverse will be made.

SelfCloak (talkcontribs)

I wanted to check on the Voat ATT subverse, even though Voat itself is way less active than Reddit, and I found out it's been deleted.

The subverse you were looking for has been disabled and is no longer accessible
If you are a moderator of this subverse you may contact Voat for information regarding why this subverse is no longer active
TBeholder (talkcontribs)

Voat itself is way less active than Reddit because it's strangled by CloudFurry.

GethN7 (talkcontribs)

It's not worth the trouble, I'm removing it from the sidebar as the guy who started it.
