World Championship Wrestling/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

This is a Character YMMV Sheet for the various wrestlers, managers and assorted other personalities that appeared in WCW.

Non-Wrestlers

Jimmy Hart (Jimmy Ray Hart, 1994-2001)

  • Most Annoying Sound: His high-pitched voice and megaphone earned him the nickname "The Mouth of the South"; this was not a compliment.

The Wrestlers

Big Van Vader (Leon Allen White, 1990-1995)

Billy Kidman (Peter Allen Grunner, 1996-2001)

  • Ensemble Darkhorse: He got a much bigger push than most other members of The Flock, after they disbanded.

Blitzkrieg (Jay Ross, 2000)

  • Ensemble Darkhorse: To this day people still fondly remember Blitzkrieg. Remember, his WCW career lasted a span of months.
  • Too Good to Last: Practically the literal embodiment of it. He was so good in the ring that even veteran cruiserweights like Juventud Guerrera and Psychosis were fans of him. And then he took a computer job with a seven digit salary and never wrestled again.
  • Unfortunate Implications: Averted, very few people ever made a big deal of his name despite the Nazi connotations.

BookerT (Booker Tio Huffman, 1993-2001)

Bret Hart (1997-2000)

Chris Jericho (Christopher Keith Irvine, 1996-1999)

Diamond Dallas Page (Page Joseph Falkinburg, Jr., 1991-2001)

  • Marty Stu: An accusation lobbied at him, since he was Eric Bischoff's friend in real life. So of course he would be the one Genre Savvy face around, and the only guy to look good against the nWo on most nights.

Disco Inferno (Glenn Gilbertti, 1995-2001)

  • Ear Worm: Disco Fever, Disco Fever, Disco Fever YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH!

Eddie Guerrero (1995-2000)

  • Ensemble Darkhorse: He was consistantly more over than his positon on the card would indicate.

The Giant (Paul Wight, 1995-1999)

Glacier (Ray Lloyd, 1996-1999)

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Wrestler: By the time Glacier debuted, WCW's booking had begun to revolve entirely around the WCW/nWo war. And yet, for all the hype, Glacier, and his opponents Mortis and Wrath, were never involved in that overarching plotline at all.
  • Creator's Pet: Glacier's debut was hyped for a solid 5 months; his first vignette aired in April 1996, and he didn't actually wrestle on TV until September that same year. Fans were sick of him before he even showed up, due to this. The following year-long undefeated streak did not help matters.

Goldberg (William Scott "Bill" Goldberg, 1997-2001)

Kevin Nash (Kevin Scott Nash, 1990-1993, 1996-2001)

  • Canon Sue: Arguably during his tenure as booker.

Lance Storm (Lance Evers, 2000-2001)

Lex Luger (Lawrence Wendell Pfohl, 1987-1992, 1995-2001)

  • HSQ His jumping ship from the WWF to appear on the first episode of Nitro, before such jumps became passe.

Mike Awesome (Michael Lee Alfonso, 2000-2001)

  • Awesome McCoolname: Obviously.
  • HSQ: He debuted on Nitro while he was still the reigning ECW Champion. Also, his involvement in a Triple Cage match, throwing Chris Kanyon from it's second storey.

  • Complete Monster: After he turned on his brother.
  • Unfortunate Implications: When he dyed his hair and beard blonde and joined the nWo, he was given the nickname "White Thunder", due to his blonde hair matching his all white ring attire. It didn't last long.

Sid Vicious (Sid Eudy, 1989-1991, 1993, 1999-2001)

  • Crowning Moment of Funny: "Kevin Nash, you may be half the man that I am, and I may have half the brain that you do..."
  • Squick: There's footage of him literally snapping his leg coming off of the middle rope at the Sin Pay Per View.

Ultimo Dragon (Yoshihiro Asai, 1996-1998)

  • Memetic Mutation: Do a handstand on the turnbuckle and your opponent can't see you!

Tag Teams

The Nasty Boys - Jerry Sags (Jerome Saganovich 1990, 1993-1997), Brian Knobbs (Brian Yandrisovitz 1990, 1993-1997, 1999-2001)
