Worm/Fanfic Recs

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Proof that the remaining 10% is worth dying for.

These are recommendations made by Tropers for Worm Fanfics, all of which have been signed. After a few samples, you will be able to judge whether you might be interested in a certain 'fic, based on who recommended it. Authors of fics are not permitted to recommend their own fics; an author shilling his own work via a recommendation he wrote himself lacks the independent point of view which gives a recommendation any value at all; it is also a level of self-promotion that we do not permit at All The Tropes.

Feel free to add a recommendation of your own to the list, but remember to use the template found below. Make sure you sign your recommendation! No-name recommendations may be deleted at other tropers' leisure. Do warn when a fanfic includes sexual situations.[1] Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business. Likewise, warn if it may head into non-canon territory.

Discussion of the recommendation is welcome on the discussion page. As such discussion is important, do remember to add the discussion page to the watchlist, if need be.

Recommendations Template

Title of the Fanfic by Author OR Fic Trope Page, by Author (Link)

  • Recommended by: Troper Name[2]
  • Synopsis: What's the story about? Give here a brief summary of the plot. It would be also useful to point out in what moment of the series the story takes place. If it's a Gen Fic but it has some romantic elements, note here the characters involved too.
  • Pairing(s): If it's a Shipping Fic, list here the pairings that feature in the fic (warn here if it's het, male slash or female slash). If it's a Gen Fic, remove this line. To tell the difference between the two, notice if the focus of the fic is on a romantic relationship or if it focuses on the other aspects of the story. In case of doubt, classify the story according to the genres it's been tagged: the Romance tag for Shipping, absence of that tag for Gen Fic.
  • Tags: If any are known. This would be things like WAFF, Lemon, Dark Fic, Slash Fic, any Trigger Warnings, etc. This is also where you would put character names with Characterization Tags if doing so would be equally indicative. ("uber!Harry" for Harry Potter, for instance.)
  • Comments: If you want to say something more about why you're recommending the fic, but please, keep it brief. We don't want Conversation in the Main Page.

Crossover Fics

Stories which crossover with other characters or works.

By Mutual Consent by Taliserian

  • Recommended by: Looney Toons
  • Crossover with: City of Heroes
  • Synopsis: Taylor Hebert is contacted by an extradimensional alien entity that grants superhuman powers. However, this one believes in informed consent. A crossover where a Warshade finds the infamous locker.
  • Comments: As of March 2021 this is still starting out, with only seven (shortish) chapters, but the writing quality is superb, the dialogue rings true, and you don't need to be familiar with City of Heroes to enjoy the crossover elements. Definitely worth a look, and worth following.

A Wand for Skitter by ShayneT (Fanfiction.net page)

  • Recommended by: Looney Toons
  • Crossover with: Harry Potter
  • Status: Complete.
  • Synopsis: After defeating Scion, Taylor Hebert is killed -- and promptly wakes up in the body of a murdered 11-year-old Muggleborn in the Great Britain of an Earth she quickly confirms isn't the one she was born in, more than twenty years in the past according to her personal calendar. Her efforts first to simply survive, and later discover who is targeting Muggleborn children inevitably lead to monumental changes to first Hogwarts and then the Wizarding World as a whole.
  • Comments: An engrossing, well-written story where the addition of Taylor to the story of Harry Potter is not so much For Want of a Nail as For Want of a Hardware Store, with Taylor becoming the only muggleborn in Slytherin as well as Most Dangerous Preteen in Wizarding Britain -- and number two on Voldemort's list of enemies, right after Dumbledore.

Princess by RavensDagger

  • Recommended by: Looney Toons
  • Crossover with: RWBY
  • Synopsis: A dying Taylor arrives, amnesiac, in the Grimmlands, where Salem finds her and takes her in because she is "interesting". Giving her the name "Akelarre", Salem comes to regard her like a daughter (and Taylor/Akelarre returns the feeling). Eventually she grows strong and confident enough to venture out of the Grimmlands and into the human nations... where she meets some familiar faces, makes some friends (and some not-friends), gets involved in events starting with the "Red" trailer, and eventually makes her way to Haven and Beacon Academy.
  • Pairing(s): Akelarre/Neo/Ruby/Velvet. No, really.
  • Tags: Surprisingly WAFF at times.
  • Comments: Well done, often funny crossover.

Taylor Varga by mp3.1415player (Direct link)

  • Recommended by: Looney Toons
  • Crossover with: Luna Varga
  • Synopsis: When Taylor Hebert is trapped in her locker by high school bullies, what answers her call for help is not a shard that would grant her a parahuman power but an unnamed Greater Power who after interrogating her bonds her to the Varga, a sapient demon from another universe who just happens to bear a striking resemblance to Godzilla. Taylor becomes, in her own words, "an infinitely variable dinosaur demon slash massive troll", who in partnership with the Varga goes on to convince Brockton Bay (and the rest of the planet) that an undersea city of alien Lizard Folk are dispatching their first visitors to the world above the surface since the last Ice Age... except maybe for the few who met H.P. Lovecraft a century earlier. And with Tattletale and Panacea at her side, she begins transforming the world into something not even the shards could expect.
  • Comments: Epic in length but unfinished as of early 2023, this is a massively fun romp that thoroughly smashes Worm‍'‍s grimdark and replaces it with snarky comedy that amazingly holds up. Don't miss the various spin-offs and omake.
