Yandere (visual novel)

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Yandere: I Love You So I want To Kill You is an H-Game by Nekomarudow that is all about the Yandere trope.

It stars Subaru Oda, a somewhat lazy but otherwise ordinary teenager with the average teenage drives, and one evening, when his childhood friend Miyauchi Saki and he get into a sexually tense situation, Coitus Ensues, and he figures it was a fun experience but thinks little more of it, rather oblivious to the fact Saki was rather affected by the experience.

Soon he winds in sexual relations with his rather flirtatious and predatory homeroom teacher Kikushita Yuumi and shy, mysterious Huge Schoolgirl Saitou Maika, and initially, he doesn't seem to realize the rather intense Love Triangle he created, at least at first

However, he soon realizes that any attempt at escape from any point of that triangle could.....end in some very bad consequences.

WARNING: This game has a LOT of dark themes, and a lot of stuff in spoilers involves some dark stuff like murder, cannibalism, rape, suicide, and so on. DO NOT read further if these topics disturb you.

Tropes used in Yandere (visual novel) include:

  • Aborted Arc: Apparently, plot elements from Maika's route were grafted onto Yuumi's route, as discovered by the fan translator. Yuumi winds up engaging in cannibalism, which is hinted to be a fetish of Maika's early on, but this plot point goes nowhere in Maika's route, though certain parts of the original script indicated this was changed during development for unknown reasons.
  • Black Eyes of Crazy: All three female mains get a version of this with clouded over pupils when what's left of their sanity goes completely out the window.
  • Chainsaw Good: Saki definitely believes this when she needs to get through a door and nothing else is working. she also uses it (after sawing down Subaru's door) to murder Subaru for his unfaithfulness to her alone shortly afterwards.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: All three potential Love Interests quickly take this to some disturbed extremes
  • Downer Ending: All of them.
    • Bittersweet Ending: Well, one ending does end on a slightly better note than the rest, the one where Saki gets hit by a truck and Subaru escapes relatively unscathed, at least physically, which is a better fate than he gets in any of the other routes. However, he is now understandably scarred for life mentally by the experience, and he still may have to worry about Yuumi or Maika in the future.....
  • Genre Blind: Subaru does not seem to realize the genre he's in until it's too late most of the time. Justified for the most part, since he's a normal teenager who has never been in a relationship before.
  • I Love the Dead: Taken to horrifying extremes by all three. Saki murder Subaru with a chainsaw in one ending and wallows in his gore in one ending. Maika literally stabs Subaru to death in one ending after disemboweling herself, and continues to have sex with Subaru's corpse even as she's dying of blood loss. Yuumi not only murders Subaru to keep him to herself, she also decides to show her love for him is eternal by cooking and eating his remains in obvious sexual delight over the act.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Ooh boy, ALL THREE of them partake of this trope in different ways.
    • Saki: In the ending where she rapes you then kills you, she decides to carve up your body, and is implied to be planning to eat some of the remains.
    • Yuumi: She actively plans to eat your remains in the ending where she kills Subaru. In fact, the last scene has her planning how to cook Subaru's recently excised organs.
    • Maika: In a Squicktastic twist, she has been making lunches that she has fed to your character, with......certain fluids of hers....which your character has unwittingly eaten.
  • Fan Translation: Available here.
  • POV Cam: The game switches perspective to the various female mains depending on route, where we get to see the world through their eyes and get a window into their point of view. It also fills in some holes in the plot in the other arcs that Subaru may not have noticed on his own.
  • Sick and Wrong: Again, ALL THREE embody different aspects of this trope:
    • Yuumi: She takes Stalker with a Crush to such messed up extremes she starts banging on Subaru's door in the middle of the night so he can have sex with her, to the point her hands are all bloodied up. In fact, in one ending, her stalker tendencies disturb Subaru so much he stabs her to death out of sheer terror.
    • Maika: She basically gets off on pain, and it's heavily impiled she self abuses herself for pleasure, and unfortunately, it seems getting into a relationship seems to have driven her desire to be hurt for pleasure over the edge, as she starts mutilating herself just to maintain the rush and wants Subaru to beat the shit out of her for pleasure. This gets taken to its most Bloodier and Gorier extreme in her worst ending.
    • Saki: She become so terrified of losing Subaru to another woman she starts monitoring his every move, and in the worst endings drugs him, rapes him, and literally nails his hands together behind a chair so she can have him all to herself.
  • Take a Fourth Option: One of the endings has Subaru grab the Smart Ball and realize how utterly messed up things have gotten and even averts the usual bad endings. He even manages to hook up with a fu=ourth girl who isn't a lunatic. Sadly, the ending still has Saki stalking him, planning to Murder the Hypotenuse.......
  • Thousand-Yard Stare: This is basically a big warning sign to both Subaru and the player whatever woman happens to be in the scene just said bye-bye to their sanity.
  • Yandere: All three of the girls.
