- Artie Shaw and His Gramercy 5. Although it sounds like a band named for the number of members it had, it was in fact named for a pre-1960s telephone exchange.
- Six Hits and a Miss was a swing-era singing group composed at its height of six men and one woman. The number of members varied over the years with concordant name changes, starting out as "Three Hits and a Miss" in 1936, and probably best known under the final name they worked under, "Four Hits and a Miss", all the way into the late 1940s.
- Pizzicato Five, usually abbreviated P5, got their name because there was initially five members in the band. By the time they became famous, through, they were a duet.

- In The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, the list of bands from Grendel's bogus "Fred's Condom Factory" company includes "Todd Times Two" and "5000 Schizophrenics".
Literature
- Among the bands playing at the Walpurgisnacht rock festival in the Illuminatus! trilogy are "The 23rd Appendix" and "Consciousness III"; there are other bands with numbers in their names, but they are less random, such as "The 99-Year Lease".
