Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

A spin-off of the Yu-Gi-Oh! series that places Yugi, Yami/Yami no Yuugi, Joey (Jonouchi), Tea (Anzu), Tristan (Honda) and Solomon (Sugoroku) Mutou in another world, based on the Capsule Monsters board game. Like Pyramid of Light, it was commissioned and produced by 4Kids.

A week after his grandfather goes on an expedition to India, Yugi and his friends win tickets for a holiday. On the way, however, their plane crashes and they convinently run into the last man to have seen Yugi's grandpa before he disappeared, Alex Brisbane. Brisbane leads the gang to the pyramid the two of them were exploring when Solomon vanished, to then discover a gateway to another world where the Capsule Monsters game is very real, like the Duel Monsters World of the main series. Shortly after arriving, the friends are separated by various wild enemies chasing after them and are forced to assess their situation and work to regroup. A larger plot lingers in the background as Yugi and the others try to figure out why they are in this other world and how they escape.

The series was aired as a Twelve-Episode Anime in 2006 after the main series finished its run.

Tropes used in Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monsters include:
  • The Abridged Series: Little Kuriboh's Cr@psule Monsters.
  • Absurdly High Stakes Game: It's implied that anyone who loses all their Capsule Monsters will die. In the final battle, the power to control the world is up for grabs.
  • Action Girl: Tea.
  • All Your Powers Combined: The Armour of Unity is made of Joey, Tea, Tristan and Solomon's dragons merging with Yugi's Duel Armour.
  • The Anime of the Game: There's apparently a real board game and the PlayStation 2 game Capsule Monsters Coliseum.
  • Ascended Extra: While they're always present in the main series, Tea and Tristan actually get to contribute to events. Solomon is a straight example.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Five God Dragon, Seven Armed Fiend and Reshef the Dark Being.
  • Bad Dreams: Yugi has a couple about Yami being captured and the armour they later get being not enough to save him against the Seven Armed Fiend. It's seems to be Dreaming of Things to Come, but it never does.
  • BFS: Black Luster Soldier. Yami also gets some with his Black Luster Soldier and Blue-Eyes White Dragon armour.
  • Big Bad: Alexander the Great and Reshef the Dark Being.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Solomon appears by electrocuting a monster that Tea and Tristan were struggling to deal with. Yami later appears when Joey and Tristan are struggling with the second trial.
  • Blondes Are Evil: Alexander the Great.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Joey and Red-Eyes in Episode 7.
  • Butt Monkey: Joey and Tristan.
  • Cast from Hit Points: The first times he uses the Duel Armour, Yami collapses, or is at least left drained.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The pendant Tea wears is the key to unlocking the door of the final stage.
  • Closed Circle: The gang has to complete five trials before being able to return to their world.
  • Combat Tentacles: A group of Trents in the second episode use these on Yami and Celtic Guardian.
  • The Corruption: The Millennium Ring aided Alexander's thirst for power and drove him mad.
  • Cue the Sun: In Episode 10 after Yami slays the Five God Dragon.
  • Cute Witch: Dark Witch.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Dark Magician. Magician of Black Chaos.
  • Deus Ex Machina: When Yami is injured in the fight against Five God Dragon, the girl chosen as a Human Sacrifice is able to awaken Blue-Eyes with her tears and it promptly saves him.
  • Dragon Rider: All the main characters with the exception of Yugi/Yami.
  • Evil Laugh: Alexander the Great.
  • Evil Weapon: There's one cursing Red-Eyes Black Dragon that Joey manages to remove.
  • Fighting From the Inside: Joey.
  • Fighting Your Friend: Yami is forced to do this with Joey, though Yugi isn't too happy about it.
  • Five-Bad Band: The dragons of the fifth trial.
    • With his servents, Alexander the Great heads another one.

  • Fusion Dance: Of the Power Booster variety, Yami and his monsters can merge, the latter becoming armour that grants him power and abilities to fight with.
  • Grand Theft Me: Alexander the Great on Alex Brisbane.
  • Groin Attack: After escaping a nest of baby Duel Monsters, Joey crashes into a tree growing out of the cliff for this.
  • Hannibal Lecture: Alexander the Great gives one to Yami over their different approaches in regards to allies. He tries to persuage Yami that sacrificing his friends is what he needs to be powerful enough to put up a fight. It doesn't help that they essentially tell Yugi that he's right.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Most of the gang's monsters in the finale battle.
  • Human Popsicle: Happens to Tea and Solomon in the third episode.
  • Human Sacrifice: A girl volunteers herself for this in a ritual that will keep the Blue-Eyes White Dragon protecting the village.
  • An Ice Person: Neo Aqua Madoor.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Yami's fight against Joey.
  • If I Can Only Move: Happens to Yami twice - in the second and fourth episodes.
  • Instant Awesome, Just Add Dragons: All the main characters except Yugi get a dragon - Joey gets Red-Eyes, Tea has Seiyaryu, Tristan has Thunder Dragon and Solomon is given Curse of Dragon. The fifth trial revolves around pitting these against enemy dragons.
    • Yami also combines with Blue-Eyes White Dragon and the Armour of Unity is made of everyone else's dragons merging with him.
  • Knight in Shining Armour: Yami in Episode 10.
  • Lighter and Softer: Than Duel Monsters.
  • Living Statue: In Episode 4.
  • MacGuffin: The golden Duel Armour Yugi and Yami get. Alexander the Great also has one. It allows them to merge with their monsters.
  • The Medic: Tea and her Happy Lover.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: Yami's ability to merge with his monsters in the fifth episode. Dark Magician evolves into Magician of Black Chaos in the eighth.
  • Mind Control Eyes: Joey.
  • Monster of the Week: Each of the trials has a specific monster that the gang have to deal with. And the final test has two major obstacles they have to overcome.
  • No One Gets Left Behind: When his friends tell him to abandon them for the sake winning over Alexander the Great, Yugi violently refuses and is adamant to stand by them, even if it means losing.
    • When the gang return from the Capsule Monster world, Alexander's good half hitches a ride with Solomon.
  • Only the Chosen May Wield: A sword in the village of the fifth trial has one. Yami has to combine with Black Luster Soldier before he's capable of doing so.
  • Out of Order: Episodes 3 and 4 appeared online before others shortly before the series aired.

  • Sharing a Body: Outside the standard Yugi/Yami Yugi, Alexander and Alex and Alexander with Solomon briefly.
  • Spirit Advisor: Alexander the Great. Shadi later.
  • Synchronization: Implied that anyone who loses their only/final Capsule Monster dies. Early episodes show how characters are also harmed when their sole monster suffers damage. When a group of Trents attack Celtic Guardian, Yami is also choked (despite no-one having touched him) and captured.
  • Tactical Withdrawal: When it's clear they can't win against a pack of Flower Wolves, the group pull this.

  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Alexander has no qualms with sacrificing his servents' monsters and banishing them from the game. He tries to convince Yugi to do the same, but gets called out about it.
