City Slickers/Trivia

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Actor Allusion: In one scene (and on stage at the Oscars), Curly is seen performing one-armed push-ups. In The Swan Princess, he lends his voice to the character Rothbart, who does the same thing.
  • Hey, It's That Guy!: A young Jake Gyllenhall plays Mitch's son.
  • Hey, It's That Voice!: The clerk girl that interrupts the birthday party in part one is Yeardley Smith, best known for playing the voice of Lisa on The Simpsons.
  • The Other Darrin: Jon Lovitz replaced Bruno Kirby for the sequel. Totally justified in this case though: Kirby was extremely allergic to horses and had to get constant vaccines during filming of the first one.
  • Reality Subtext: Billy Crystal tells the true story of the first baseball game he went to.
  • Real Life Relative: Mitch's daughter is played by Billy Crystal's daughter Lindsay. Her older sister appears as a jogger in City Slickers II.
  • What Could Have Been: Rick Moranis was supposed to be in City Slickers alongside Billy Crystal, but Rick put his highly successful career on hold and refused to do the movie because he needed to take care of his ailing wife Ann, who was stricken with liver cancer. Sadly, she passed away about 5 months later.
