Finding Nemo/Trivia

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Actor Allusion: Peach, played by Allison Janney (more famous for playing C.J. Cregg on The West Wing) announces that the dentist is about to do a root canal, bringing to mind the hilarious West Wing episode "Celestial Navigation".
    • There are a couple of allusions (the song "Beyond the Sea" and the line "That's my boy.") to Albert Brooks in My First Mister.
  • All-Star Cast
  • Dueling Movies: With Dreamworks' Shark Tale.
  • Enforced Method Acting: Ellen DeGeneres was quite upset over messing up the first take of the scene where Dory begs Marlin not to leave her, resulting in the take used in the film.
  • Hey, It's That Voice!: Just about everyone. For example:
    • Albert Lawrence Einstein Albert Brooks as Marlin.
    • Ellen DeGeneres as Dory.
    • The Hulk as a vegetarian shark.
    • And Dame Edna Everage as Bruce.
    • Nemo spends some time in a dentist's fish tank with C. J. Cregg, Bill Deautrive, Ray's brother, Beth, Max and Jesus. Every now and then, Captain Barbossa flies up to visit. Shane Botwin really got around when he was a little kid, didn't he?
    • Australian television personality Rove McManus plays the crab who Dory threatens.
    • And, as usual, John Ratzenberger appears in this film.
    • Gil is dubbed in European Spanish by Ramón Langa.
    • Mom, Phineas and Ferb got lost in Latin America! Phineas is Nemo in Mexico, while Ferb is the Brazilian Nemo.
    • The dentist is probably better known to international audiences as Ray Palmer in Kate's first flashback episode of Lost.
    • Near the end, did you hear the brother from Spy Kids?
  • The Red Stapler: After the release of this movie, kids wanted clownfish and others seen in the movie. Ironic, considering half the movie involves Nemo wanting to escape life in a tank.
    • And on the flip side of things, this film is responsible for hundreds of cases in which children flushed their fish down the toilet in hope of them reaching the sea. However, most of them didn't make it. Sometimes movies indeed have bad influence on kids.
  • What Could Have Been: A deleted scene had Nemo making it through the sewage treatment plant. While this would have explained the question raised by the scene's absence, it was cut, possibly for being too frightening.
    • According to the DVD commentary, the director cut the scene for two reasons: First, it put too much more focus on Nemo- as Marlin is the main character of the film. Second, it didn't add anything that the rest of the movie hadn't already done; making it just a repeat of the filter scenes.
    • Gil was going to lie to Nemo about his life in the sea in order to look more impressive. Nemo would then find out that Gil was lying when one of the patients starts reading a storybook about pirates that shared the exact same details. This subplot was cut because it made Gil too unlikeable.
  • Nemo made an Early-Bird Cameo in Monsters, Inc. as a toy. Boo offers it to Sully (among other toys) when she finally returns to her room.
